    A straight six diesel of that calibre would knock Ford Lion based V6 like the New Generation Ranger, and the latest Amarok out of the park. Korean Build/Quailty Management is probably a question mark. Kia is not Genesis. But Thai built product really varies from the different experiences published on FB sites.

    The 3.3 litre V6 turbo-petrol engine from the Kia Stinger makes sense for a top spec Tasman. The Stinger has been discontinued so that engine and gearbox needs a new home; I'd say Kia can easily upgrade that engine to be more torque focused; I'm guessing 240kw and 620Nm.

  • @Daniel-dg3np

    @Daniel-dg3np

    They don't need more torque at the flywheel. Due to higher rpm operation petrol engines have shorter gearing so torque AT THE WHEELS is plenty. Especially with the short gearing in such a gearbox as an 8 speed. See the performance of the turbo petrol 4 cylinder VW Ute.

    The main reason the Ford Ranger is so popular is the previous 3.2L engine and now the new V6 turbo. Most of us would want that in any of the brands but they're just not available. It's not that we want a bl**dy turbo four, Mr Journalist.

    If they can manage 3.5t towing, 1t load and 5* safety rating as they say are their 3 benchmarks… there is definitely a market for that same drivetrain to be brought into the large SUV market as well. As far as I’m concerned, any competition is good competition.

  • @johnholst
    @johnholstАй бұрын

    I'm excited to see Kia going forward with this project. You said a lot of things in the video that weren't correct, though. The GV80 gets neither a 4 cylinder diesel nor the 3.3TT you mentioned. The Palisade doesn't get the DCT from the Sorento/Santa Fe. You should also be aware that this new ute will be heavily based on the Kia Mohave, and that was clear from the ute shown at 6:19 of this video. The Mohave comes with a V6 3L diesel, which would be much more affordable than the inline 6 in the Genesis. Maybe they could use that as well. Can't wait to find out!

  • @Richard-sl8we

    @Richard-sl8we

    Nothing is clear at this stage. Why is it based on the Kia Mohave; just because a car reviewer shows a picture? Until Kia Australia confirms everything in June/July everybody is speculating.

  • @johnholst

    @johnholst

    Ай бұрын

    @Richard-sl8we To be sure, there's a lot we don't know yet. But it is definitely based on the body on frame used in the Mohave. In several of these pics, they didn't even bother to change the front end. It's the Mohave grill and lights under the cover. And that's what the Korean media has already found out. We've been waiting a while for this.

    I have just been driving some new KIA hire cars in the UK and Europe. We were passed by a large ute on a motorway in the UK. I was quite surprised to see that it had KIA on the tail gate. I just thought it was a standard model that was available already in Europe. It did not have shiny paint. Anyhow, I am totally impressed by the KIA sedans we had. The electronics were so far ahead it makes my old Nissan look like a dinosaur in comparison.

    Would be great if they can include a full time 4wd feature that you can also drive on the highway, the same as the Ford/Amarok does in the V6 versions, and also what Mitsubishi offer in their Super Select version. After owning 2 older model Amaroks with this type of driveline, I wouldn’t be going backwards to a 2wd Ute ever again. Just too many advantages and safe as well, even if it slightly increases fuel consumption. Interesting that the engine power output as quoted would only be slight more than the original Amarok 4 cylinder diesel Automatics, and they also had the 8spd auto with constant 4wd, but had no low range. So maybe KIA aren’t too far off the mark with these figures. Wonder if it will come out using Adblue as well for the Australian market like the new Triton, or just run straight diesel. I’m guessing when the new emissions come in it will be with Adblue, which is a pity. Just more stuff to go wrong. 🤔

    The Kia will need more tha 440nm to compete with Ranger and Hilux, petrol engines won't cut it for towing in Australia or South Africa rural and outback areas. The trans must have a decent torque converter and decent exrenal cooling unlike Rangers woeful cooler. Manual diff lock and excellent Air conditioner. No 18 or 19 inch wheells, 16/17 inch big rubber for outback roads. Standard 3.5 ton hitch and electric brake provision. Jus sayin'

    Typing from the U.S. So, this is a Mid-sized truck and I assume it's going to be price competitive to the Ranger. It's going to boil down to cost and reliability and that could be tough for KIA because they are not the most reliable brand and people have mostly gone with KIA based on price. I had a KIA Rio, and I knew it was a short-term car when I bought it used. It served that purpose of being cheap to drive for a short term. I have reservations about buying a new KIA even with the 100K warranty. I looked at the Hyundi Santa Cruz and it looks great BUT, I don't trust the DCT gearbox considering the low milage failures. If KIA uses that Gear box run AWAY!!!

    Another candidate for the LDV, Sang Yong, GWM club. I would have added MG (Mediocre Garbage)...but MG don't make a bespoke ute... it's a rebadged LDV! 😂

    Very careful script, how can u say it hits the benchmark when u havent seen one or driven one.sounds like you just simply believe anything they say, keeps things cosy i guess.

    This comment is hugely misleading. We said that it fits a Europallet in the tray “so it is hitting the benchmark *in those areas* [along with Ranger, Amarok and Triton].” The only other mention of the concept was that Kia is benchmarking the Tasman against the Ranger Raptor and other top utes. You’ve distorted our words well away from their clear meaning, which is that Kia is targeting the best utes, and has matched them - at this stage - solely on the criterion of tray width.
