I just bought my Picanto GT-line tonight and honestly it’s soo fun! I just want to keep driving it 😍 they literally fly haha For a little car I really expected to feel the road a lot more, it’s probably the most comfortable micro car I’ve ever been in.

Love your presentation. So enthusiastic, punchy and funny. You’ve convinced me to go out and buy this hot little rocket 🚀

I sold my GTi 208 Peugeot for a GT S line Picanto 11 days ago and I absolutely love it. 😊 it's so responsive and the tech is so good.

Thanks for the nice review. Just waiting for my to arrive by the end of this month. I didn't test drive it and am used to drive an SUV. I hope it's not going to feel to awkward driving it. Baught the black gtl here in Qatar hopefully it won't get to hot :p

Oh man so much fun! I wish there were a few more colours, like the S gets many more colours!

i own previous model 2015 manual version, not the best car for sure, but it was reliable, best of the class manual gear shifting feel on same segment, cold aircond, good handling, powerful brake, looks good, extremely stable idling, etc etc.... the not so good side is size and suspension...i wish i could buy GT line manual in my country...which is not possible...good review anyway matt!

Considering this for my first car, im pritty car illiterate, is the fuel consumption on this below, around, or above average?

I like micro cars and agree that this is the best of its kind. IMO best looking too.

Thanks for the input! It is such a great car, and yep I would also argue best in class - there's a reason its the best selling Micro car here in Australia :)

I picked up my GT in Feb and I would instantly upgrade just for lane keep assist and an auto (with the GT), but Australia misses out on literally every feature that overseas markets get. I'd take the auto even if it was the 4spd...

Yeah I get it, even the blank switches on the GT are a shame. But I get why, it would be over $20k easily and Australians don't have that appetite as a market. It suits dense Asian countries where a micro car is necessary, but they also want something luxury! Congrats on the GT though, hope you love it 😁

Caught the 36 MPG average on the display which is well down from the maunfacturers official 48 MPG. Thats what I get from my 1.25L automatic 3 spec.

Great review Matt! It’s well packaged and the infortainment system trumps over the Swift, but I would take the Swift over this any day. There is just more of a fun factor and they come with some well documented history.

MattBrandCars Yeah Matt. The Swift Sport is sort of in a different league compared to the Picanto GT line. With a regular Swift, the Picanto may just be that little better.

Fantastic review Matt. I love the enthusiasm mate! I totally agree, Kia has built a true winner in the Picanto. Do you think the turbo GT is still worth the upgrade from the GT Line?

Thank you! Honestly not really, the difference in how they drive was not noticeable to me personally. Both are still great though, and knowing me I would get the GT just knowing it's a turbo haha

I have had both the turbo and the non-turbo Picanto. The turbo will get you to 60mph in a straight line about three seconds quicker than the non-turbo if that's what's important to you, however, the duel port fuel injection system in the non-turbo rewards you in fuel economy, I would get at least 80 miles more per tank of fuel in the non-turbo than in the turbo.

How long would you expect a 1.0L turbo to last before any issues occur? Surely can’t be as reliable as a natural aspirated engine

The i10 is for the elderly. The Picanto is youthful except in granny blue!

It's my favorite car since it came out way back 2004. It is compact with a decent space inside the cabin. Plus Kia really did something for Picanto this time. It's cool and sleek ish. Kia is like on the durable-premium side on interior design well despite of plastics can be found inside, it's durable and reliable. At least on a budget car, you have a infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation ready and temperature gauge on Picanto, not like other budget cars from other brands, they're still on a classic mp3 audio/Bluetooth with no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, they don't have temperature gauges. For me, Kia did made your life easy, you don't have to worry about the missing parts. However, I still don't own one😔

I’m really interested in what you think of this compared with the MG3? The MG is the best selling light car, but is it as good as the Kia?

Yes Jesse, it does! Certainly a light gear box, but conversely it's tuned to be easy to use in traffic 🙂

Great question, but I'm not sure sorry! I'd be surprised if it wasn't, this is definitely an Asian market vehicle being micro and affordable 🙂

A shame they don't offer an automatic transmission in the GT....

Oh man, tough question haha. Really don't know why they made the fake exhausts - surely the tooling to make the new fake exhausts was more expensive then continuing to use the dual tip real exhausts 😥

The Swift's a wee bit bigger and they've still got a bit of the 'Mini' in the look, so vote for the Swift.

Small passenger car category in Australia is almost dead with the SUV trend cannibalizing the traditional sedans & hatchbacks. Not everyone needs a SUV for basic traveling & city driving. Kudos to KIA for persevering in this category while others withdraw. Their GT-Line is the best looking car in this category inspite of the limited offerings. Suzuki Swift looks less adorable with it's latest design change. It seems that Japanese car designs seemed to degrade each new model change or is it just my imagination? The South Korean car manufacturers like KIA & Hyundai seemed to come up with nicer car designs than the Japanese? China, IMO, still an unknown factor for reliability & resale value. The MG3 doesn't get you emotionally unlike the Picanto GT-Line. If nothing, MG3 looks too generic & ordinary. Something which the South Koreans were guilty of some 1-2 decades earlier. But now, they look more European than the Euro cars themselves.

I seriously love the Picanto offering, can't wait for them to release the GT

The interior is great but I preferred the exterior of the previous incarnation without these horrible fake exhausts and that messy front end. I would opt for its sister car, the Hyundai i10 N-line.

@@CarSauce I applaud you for your uploads. You have a really upbeat and flowing presentation and a down to earth approach. My parents both got marchined into a Kia dealership in Victoria by me insisting they test out a car as they were due for an update. They both had Hyundais and had an amazing tun out of them and were still as good as new. Mum's Elantra went to my 18 yo niece and Dad ended up trading in his i40 sedan. The process was amazing with Dad choosing a Cerato hatch and Mum as she says "feel in love with a Picanto. Nine months later and we have all fallen in love with the Picanto and it's our favotite. The more I dig into it these Kias shit all over my mazda mx5 for quality features and dependability. My brothe and his wife have a Carnival and a Sorento and these are just awsome and utterly reliable. Because of the aftersales service my next car will be a Kia or perhaps a Hyundai. Definalely no mazdas and most other brands don't interest me...eg suzuki, my cousin has one and the quality is so low rent.

This guy needs to take more water with it. The Swift and the Juke look miles better

I have two mk3 Picantos, a 2 spec and a 3 spec both autos. This mk3.1 looks stupid. And now with a DCT automated manual box its a big NO! Look elsewhere for a proper torque converter auto.

Looks are subjective, I have to disagree. I love it except for the stupid fake exhausts. Also, not sure what market you're in but here in Australia it comes with the same 4 speed auto torque converter as last year. I don't think a CVT has been offered since the second gen.

While I agree those things would be nice, the reason we don't get them is because by adding these the cost price goes up and then the price for the buyer goes up too. The reason markets like Malaysia have these is because they have huge demand for small cars that are fully featured. The people who buy a picanto in Australia do so because it is one of the cheapest new cars around. Would you pay close to $30k for the fully loaded Picanto or a high spec Cerato? Chances are you would go for the Cerato, certainly the majority of Australians would.

For me it's a wife's car we still have extra 3-5000 $ to play with when we purchased the GT line which there's a void Kia failed to earn my money with existing cars sitting in their factory

We purchased a new Picanto gt-line auto in June, I guess it is spec’d to a price point, if they offered all those features at a reasonable price including the turbo I probably would of purchased it.
