One big thing is the fact that you get the ressources instantly into your bank without having to wait for the dropoff, which means that you can invest your food as soon as it is collected. The value of invested ressources is greater the earlier in the game it is. If you don`t have to wait until your vills reach their carrying capacity, you can get units/techs earlier, boosting everything even more. I think this is will be huge!

Khmer confirmed top tier in 256x times mod, now you can increase your walking speed without having them hoard until they have 100 resources. Apart from that: eh, casual to mid ranked players always have 30+ food in the bank, while pros are already used to force dropping resources. Not having too force drop food may help them somewhat, but I think the 7% higher farming efficiency is the huge part here and not the convenience in never force dropping.
@PizzaManager101

Tudsamfa but also the saved space and wood cost of mills
That khmer bonus is also useful to hide your farmers if you know the enemy will knight rush you. Also you can just send the farmers to spots all over the map and mantaing map visibility at the same time you get food.
@GummieI
4 жыл бұрын
Hmm could be interesting in those cases where you would normally wall in towards your TC due to how the map was, you could now in fact justify to walling all the way in to touch the TC, forcing the enemy not just near your TC, but in through your TC making it a lot harder to get past even with good micro, while having the farmers begin the TC and wall still

@Nguyễn Hải Dương Are you trolling? In real life, feudal and medieval vietnamese never had a strong economy. Trade was relatively non-existent, especially with foreign powers. Yet, the vietnamese in game have the following eco techs: - full food techs - full wood techs - full market techs - gold mining, stone mining, stone shaft mining - wheelbarrow AND hand cart - free conscription - supplies (less food for militia line) - Paper money in team games (500 extra gold) - gilnets, careening and dry dock (better fishing ships) Tell me, how is this not a good eco civ??? The only thing they need to be the winning civ is blast furnace and paladin, people just need to learn to use the archery ranges properly and complement with monks and bombards/elephants.
@Gunth0r
4 жыл бұрын
@Nguyễn Hải Dương Rattan/Arbs / elephants / monks are powerful gold mix, imperial skirm with rammed or siege towered pointybois is good trash! Also, not every civ has the same role or strength. obviously, vietnamese are going to be slinging and supporting team with archer line / elephants in team games. In solo, you'll have to perform archer+skirm raids against enemy feudal eco (+20% hp is a lot) (like the historic Nam Viet against the Cham) and counter with pikes if they bring cav, like you would with a lot of civs. Some civs are better generalists, others are better in niche situations. I wouldn't have it any other way. But I get it, you're vietnamese and you wanna be proud :) You're of the Nguyễn line after all.
@TheIanOakley

The extra HP isn't particularly meaningful, and if you give them that *and* free armour they're even more pigeonholed into archers. I'd swap the HP boost for free Fletching line - it's stronger archers, stronger galleys, stronger towers. Their other issue is that Imp Skirms and Rattan Archers both have the same niche, so one's gotta go.

If they're really going with portal-farm, one idea that I can definitely think of is "Portable Fortified farm" for those with corners to retreat to. Basically, find a place that's hard for the enemy to raid, wall off then just farm there. Then you can just focus on defending this one spot instead of spreading your defenses everywhere. Although, It's a double edge sword as you put all your farms in one place so if it's wiped, then you're wiped.
I like the bonus. It seems quite appropriate, both thematically and historically. The Khmer already had a strong "versatility" theme going on with the removed requirements for age advancement. It also makes sense historically for the Khmer to have a farming bonus, their cities (especially Angkor) had huge populations for the time period, which was achieved through very productive farming.
I love your videos!

Using the Aegis cheat while playing as the Khmer is really insane now, those farms give food so fast, it's crazy
Your tests gave very similar results to mine. I'm extremely happy with the buff. You really notice the bonus in late feudal/early castle, but the bonus isn't so oppressive that other civs can't deal with the late game hussar/elephant spam. The khmer have always been fun to play, and now they're viable to play.

I dont like the portal farmers tbh Would be more interesting and in theme with khmer if instead houses worked as a drop off point for farmers
@Salnax
4 жыл бұрын
That would make some sense, but that basically would just make houses a cheap Mill alternative, something that isn’t going to matter until you need a second or third mill. By that point it could be the Ccastle Age, and saving 75 Wood on a building at that point is a pretty bottom tier bonus. Maybe if it were, say, 50% cheaper Houses it would both be on theme and useful?
@Progeusz

The Chinese/Mayan starting vills on Nomad were useful not only for building a TC faster, but also for beating down enemy villagers. The number of game overs in three minutes will drop significantly :p
I just played a Nomad 3v3 with Khmer and oh boy how much they've improved. I'm sure we normally would've lost this game for sure but in the late game we started dominating when that 70 vill farm eco kicked in. The bonus is very, very noticable. I don't know where to put them now, but maybe even top 10...? Huge buff regardless, love it!

You said you were waiting for this patch to do some overviews but in the patch notes they mention there will also be a February patch
Wow@khmer buff I can see some really interesting weird strategies with farms and their placement. They're going to be extraordinarily hard to raid imo
Proxy farms for khymer sounds like a dope strategy. I mean you have an idle villager out in the middle of nowhere after doing a trushing or scouting. Besides who really focuses down on farms, it's usually military buildings and tc that get targetted
Can't wait for the new civ overviews. Aztecs represent!
I waited for this :D
Spirit of the law Can you make a episode about each civ bonuses what is the meaning behind then (history etc)
Have you considered doing an overlord scenario with the community, I'm interested how you would play it.
You made a minor mistake at 1:32 calling hand cart wheelbarrow.
back then I've heard a friend mention that in one of the earlier version of the game (not sure if it was 1.0a or 1.0b), the game had a bug where the Korean farmers didn't move around while farming, I never tested it myself so I'm not sure if it was true
another new feature is, that sometimes units can walk through an unfinished stone gate or just straight through house walls. had this happen twice during my last game
Fuck dude I love your stuff. Very well thought out and detailed
Hey Hello. You have noticed that since the last patch the AI launches all units towards the left corner of the map (all AIs). this happens at least on the black forest map.
Hey, can we, (mainly me), see the DE AI take on the other civs in death match? Just want to see how the increased resources at the start impact the game.
If you convert a Burmese farmer and/or farm, do you also get the teleporting food? Or would the Burmese farmer lose the portal gun to transport food with?
Interesting bonus. My interpretation is that TC's, Mills and Farms are now no longer bound to each other. Wich also means the space around the TC is no longer nessesarily tied up with farms. Normally the farms are bound to the TC. And thus the mill is indirectly bound to the TC. Farms still want to hug the TC for arrow/raid coverage. Or you can put them around a castle for even *more* protection then a TC could allow. The house was a nice idea, but why not use something miltiary instead? But it might also be viable to hide a few farms in far-off spots. Or even put them into your allies base or around their Castles/Kreposts/Towers. You might have a very distributed farming (all over the map) farming area, a well protected one - or even both. It is also worth considering if there might be other buildings you want to place under TC coverage. The farms kinda hogged the TC coverage, as they needed to be close for dropoffs. But maybe there is something else "as important as farms" that can now be protected? Another bonus is the lack of delays. Both the part where they collected until "full" before dropping off and the running to the Dropsite could introduce delays in getting the resources. But now for Khmer you effectively got a "streaming" food income. Transitioning from the woodline to farming can now be seamless for the worker. Finally farmers can now be taken of at a moments notice and send to do some other gathering job - they will not loose any carried food.
Holy shit, Khmer and OP in the same sentence! PogChamp
As someone who likes to play Khmer, I love that they finally get some sort of eco bonus considering that they want to make big and expensive units! Building my Elephant army should be easier than ever! >:D

@@m136dalie my point isn't about historical accuracy. The Indians are by far the least interesting Civ out there. With American Civs you have eagles(Camels are too much gold intensive and take alot of bonus from defensive buildings)to compensate for no Stables unit plus they have decent UU as well. Can you say that for Indians ! Indians should on other hand have infantry as the bulk with huge cavalry on the other hand if we go by history but since we arent going by historical accuracy they still are pretty bad with average barracks and too heavy gold intensive units like Camels and Elephant archers the latter being very situational. The devs should have chosen Mughals instead of Rajputs as they were far better administrators. The civ would be alot better than what it has been represented in the game.

Can Khmer still drop food off at TC or mill if you need to get a bit of food quickly?

@@TARDISES Yep, the infinite farm thing actually first got introduced in the base AoM. Though it's much slower to farm as a ratio of their hunting rate in comparison to AoE 2 farmers to balance out the infinite Food farms so they are still mostly only worth it once nearby hunting and gathering points are exhausted. Early on they start out slow, about three quarters the rate of hunting (while AoE 2 farming is much faster in comparison), and cost a ton of Wood (except for Egyptians who spend Gold for some reason) to get going, but as you get the farming rate upgrades and can defend them late, they become a solid food source. Same in AoE 3 as well, except instead of only Atlanteans it's all civs that can gather and drop off resources instantly.
Hmm got a map idea, wonder how hard it would be to make. Monument war: each player starts with a monument that generates resources and defends its self like a castle. You loose the monument you loose the match. Monument counts as a castle upgrade wise.

Can someone please explain how Aztecs could possibly have a faster gather rate than Khmer? As their only bonus, to my knowledge, is they carry +5 before they have to drop off but Khmer never have to drop off so it should be always quicker? Does Aztecs have some sort of a hidden farming bonus or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
I guess we know T90's new fave civ...
Id like to know how your head works spirit of the law♥
I think that the Khmer bonus was to see if people stopped talking about the "three archer ranges on neutral island strategy." It worked.
1. Will villagers gather food until their capacity is reached and then you get the food OR will every single food unit be added instantly? 2. Could you use 8 villagers, wander around the map looking for deers and boars and get huge amounts of food without walking to or building a mill?

Huhuhuuu..
A good way to evaluate the power of the Khmer farming bonus would be to compare food income from Khmer farms to "well-placed" and "poorly-placed" farms. The worse your farm placement is, the more powerful the bonus will be. If Spirit's tests are conducted with optimal farm placement, which probably isn't realistic in most late games, the tests will underestimate the power of the bonus. Another interesting aspect of the bonus is that the food trickles in 1 by 1, instead of in lumps of 10 or 15. This means that your food comes in slightly earlier, so that it's kind of like your food drops come in about half a cycle earlier than other civs'.
But what if you just need 1 food to click up? Do you have to wait until the villager is at max food?
Will this be T90's favorite civ now?
I think there’s a bug with new pathfinding. For example, if i have a stack of mixed unit (max60) on defensive stance, i send them auto attack on an area, they sometimes acting like previous battering ram. They suddenly lost interest in whatever target thryre attacking along the way and proceed to the original order.
Everyone seems to be ignoring the major benefit of the Khmer farming bonus. The income goes straight into stockpile and doesn't stay with the villager. That is huge. If you have 10 vills collecting 1 food/sec, you can produce a scout every 10 sec after the drop off, for Khmer that happens 2 secs sooner because you get the 80 food faster. And that's without considering the walk time to drop off. It might not seem like much but allows to bring scouts out a lot faster than other civs. And that's not only scouts, an upgrade that costs 150 food will be clickable 5 secs faster as well. It adds up.
But how does Chinese Block Printing affect the Aztec Dark Age Farming Rate?
Interesting monument change. Very often in a FFA people are reluctant to be first to take the monument, but now they may be more motivated.
Are you going to redo the civ overviews?
I miss the intro music so much that i had to learn how to play it
Aside from being a big eco boost, it's also a huge convenience to just be able to plop them everywhere
You guys having enemy units walk through your palisades since this patch?
The monument gives resources like ~10 vills. But how much is that counted in Feitorias? :¬]
