To be fair, Aztecs free loom was broken, because Aztecs already have a very strong eco bonus. In goths is not so broken, because after dark age, they dont get anything else besides infantry.

I think it's worth mentioning that I don't disagree with the change. After all, we've all been wondering how to buff Goth's early game. But I remember telling people, "so there was a time when Aztecs got free loom, and that turned out to be overpowered. But if you think about it, it really is overpowered."

It was OP because Dark Age Aztecs also have the +5 Villager carrying bonus + faster creating military. By itself free Loom is equal to a 5-man Drush/M@A and 1 extra Dark Age Villager, which should be a big enough bump by itself to the Goths Dark Age without also needing the Dark Age infantry discount. If it'll be OP again, then it'll be because of combining with other bonuses, like the Dark Age infantry discount, and not because it's that powerful of a bonus by itself.

@@noegthezemeraldghostie6287 Villagers can carry 20 wood with Wheelbarrow and Handcart, if memory serves. Actually, make that Aztec villagers, who carry +5. A House costs 25 wood. Villagers literally carry the weight of a house. They also carry an infinite supply of arrows. Nobody fucks with villagers. The Spanish Supremacy tech suddenly makes perfect sense.

You forget about the Malay: "Harbors now (properly) receive the benefits of Chemistry, Murder Holes, and Heated Shot when Thalassocracy is researched before any of these technologies"

@@biaslina For some reason, Malay's aging at the normal speed of generic civs, but the progression bar for aging now goes over 100% before it finishes. It's a weird bug that can make a big difference for Malay, so hopefully it gets addressed soon.

True. As frustrating as some of the lingering issues from launch can be, the devs are constantly improving and balancing the game.

I really like how your vid has little descriptions in the timeline. Really informative! Thanks for the vid.

Finally, the Teutons can actually do something meaningful with their farm bonus. They were the first civ I mained and I still have a soft spot for them, but the fact that they only had mostly-generic Paladins & Onagers eventually killed them for me (conversion resistance is nice but too situational to be useful, ditto for melee armor on Siege).

Well, they still are largely generic paladins and onagers. The paladin armor just reinforces the theme, and a slight speed boost doesn't change how niche infantry are. Even so, I agree it is nice Teutons got a bit of love. Even if that just means more of the same in terms of approach.

Those Teuton knights must be hitting up the treadmills.

Teuton Knight: I am speed

The buff to Teutons paladins is actually better than you realize when you consider that with full upgrades on both halberdiers would take 5 attacks to take out a paladin(with the exception of Frankish and now Teutonic) since it means that instead of doing 37 damage per hit , halberdiers on do 35 per hit to Teutonic paladins on top of winning outright vs Frankish paladin. Meaning that outside of arrow fire Teutons now have the best paladins in the game

@TheStatistnr27 best land is a bit of a stretch. I know they are decent, but Panokseon is such a waste. Not only water maps are barely played but Turtle Ships are expensive and slow, they need a buff

AoE2 fanbase must one of the most loyal fans out there. This game is older than most of the the players and the game still doing pretty well. It's been so long since I've played this game tho.

A Wonderful and deserved balance change for the Teutons.

That dock change is a lot bigger than people might think... huge for nomad meta

The best way to test a new feature is to provide it to a minor part of the players such as letting them earn it as a cheat code in an event. So i would expect it as a gamemode coming to the game :D

they should make the cheat codes exclusive for 3-6 months, then release them as part of a monthly update. Also, teutonic knights may not be the best units around, but the feeling of watching them inch across the battlefield and mow down enemy melee is just so satisfying. The flappy things on their backs are awesome too.

I like some of these changes overall. I like playing Malay, so I'll have fun with using the docks as a drop off point for fishermen, heehee! But also, the harbors now benefit from the university techs, Murder Holes, Heated Shot, and Chemistry, which is nice. Their aging's a bit bugged though, hopefully that gets addressed soon!

I think there should be an upgrade at the dock that any food can be dropped off at it from vills in dark age. It should cost like 50-75 wood and take the same amount of time as loom to upgrade. It could have interesting combos in later game where farms could be put next to malay docks to protect farmers ect. just my thought
