Is that what Twilight fans are called?

I appreciate what Kermode sees in Twilight. I don't think the films hold much substance in themselves, but I think what they have done is contributed to better works like The Hunger Games being turned into mainstream films.

@Radioheadhead90 When you get down to it, he's a feminist attracted to the idea of exploitation films for young girls in a male dominated cinema - the men run around buff and topless and full of undying love instead. If you look at his New Moon review, he's completely on board with the muscles on display at every opportunity. Contrast this with him loathing the Apatow geek-and-hot-girl genre. As per his review of Hard Candy, he seems to be searching for a film equivalent of affirmative action.

I think Mark Kermode just reviews it for what it is.Didn't see it, and I'm not interested at all.But I just think Mark says it deserves better than it gets, because there's more in it than most people think.

I'm quite sympathetic towards the franchise but that one is clearly the worst as of that point. The main problem of it is how much focus they put on the very unconvincingly written and developed love triangle storyline, the key moment of which (when Bella suddenly starts acknowledging that she really has some feelings towards Jacob) feels extremely forced and contrived. If they instead just focused on her fear of changing her way of existence and not on who she's romantically more interested in, which came out of nowhere as she never showed any particular interest in Jacob before, it would have been a much better and more convincing film.

I was completely indifferent about the 1st and I thought the 2nd was a little bad. This one however i think is decent. I didn`t think it was that impressive and still had some problems from the first 2 but in the end i had a decent time.

I can't believe Mark Kermode gave Twilight a better review than Funny Games. I'm reeling.

StrangerToEarth I feel bad he blindly loves these cheap films. Which is OK, sometimes we unconditionally love something.

i agree with all these aspects you brought up...if only other men could see as clearly and intelligently as you guys do.... especially about the part where ppl always say that bella just "whines"....oh shut up....it's called emotions. (like you said) half the things going on in your head are just the same ones...

I love Kermode but trying to praise Twilight from a feminist perspective just drops my jaw.

I'm with Mark on these films I have to say. And I'm nowhere near the target audience either, but they're just enjoyable films to me. Its nowhere near the worst franchise ever - Saw? Final Destination? Both great openers then terrible afterwards.

I like the story but I'm not sure about the acting. I love the concept but the acting I think is shaky

Mark, love you to bits but isn't it just as dangerous to suggest to young women that a way to decide who they are (which I agree is what the film is about) is through their choice in guys?

The film is stylish, intriguing, A little dark & well directed, however the film’s poorly acted, poorly characterised & cheap. (46%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)

Avatar, Star Wars (old and new), Funny Games, American Pie, Final Destination, Scary Movie and many, many more... Be decent, people, if you call Twilight stupid, cheesy and a bunch of nonsense, you MUST be fair and call these movies/franchises exactly the same. Kermode is a master of his trade; knowledgeable and objective and probably the only competent critic out there because he sees all elements in a movie, not just the plot. To twooffour: UR wrong Women in Twilight ALWAYS get what THEY want.

What does Funny Games have to do with that list? As far as I remember it's not a franchise like the rest of the list.
