🇰🇪 Kenya's Ogiek celebrate anniversary of landmark rights ruling | Al Jazeera English
In Kenya, indigenous people are urging the government to respect a year-old court ruling on their right to return to their forest home.
For the past century, the Ogiek people have been evicted in their thousands from the Mau forest.
It is the largest forest in Kenya and its wood is highly-prized by illegal loggers.
Al Jazeera's Catherine Soi reports from the anniversary ceremony in Nakuru.

They have been living in the forest for centuries, illegal logging is what is harmful to the forest not the Ogiek people.
I mean if the Africans want to stay in their Stone-Age tribes let them. All it will do is keep Africa another statistic of a place with low GDP, high infant mortality rates, and low scores on the HDI. But they should know that it is the natural right for strong peoples to do what they can and the weak suffer what they must. If you ask me, the British Empire did not go far enough.

James Russell it is one tribe in all of Kenya. The Kenyan government which is made up of Kenyan Africans is removing them for their forests. These are obviously a indigenous minority tribe. I'm sick and tired of you people spreading stereotypes

Martin Hemligt Oh I'm sorry, it is just a stereotype that African nations have statistically low scores of the HDI index due to such factors as high infant mortality rates, low GDPs, unstable governments? Think again pal. We have evidence in this very video that there are African peoples eho want to keep their traditional way of life, are you about to tell ne that sentiment is held by only this tribe? Quit fooling yourself moron.
