Kenya's indigenous Ogiek evicted from ancestral lands for carbon credits | DW News
In Kenya, a plan to save forests and fight climate change is being linked to the removal of indigenous people from their homes. The Ogiek community have lived in the Mau Forest for generations. But they now find themselves on the wrong side of forest restoration efforts and say rangers from Kenya Forest Service are destroying their houses, leaving them displaced and destitute. DW’s Felix Maringa reports from Sasimwani village in the Mau Forest complex.

WAKE UP & DO SOMETHING THEN!!!!
This is a very sad action by the Kenya government.
Are they also evicting the former politicians and wealthy landowners who were granted big swathes of this forest? Or did that actually get done back in 2008?
Where are we going? And what's with the handbasket????
This act has taken totally wrong direction towards crimate justice.
There was a right way to do this, you give the people land somewhere else with similar conditions and help them to settle in. Kenya chose the dumbest option for the sake of petty greed.

just draw a perimeter of the area they live in and leave them alone. that simple. but no, gotta get carbon credits for the oil industry to be able to spew more carbon into the atmosphere
Select Kenyans that destroy homes in the name of a facade don't deserve to sing their own anthem with actions that go against the lyrics.
This is angering. Leave people alone! They have a right to live!
WEF wants 15 minute cities and everyone in the cities. no one outside of the cities.
This is so wrong!
Business Contracts trump the rights of the People
They vacate to where please Ruto???? Give them a place to live in then, you have thousands piecesof land Mr.President
Not exactly a just transition.
WEF will try this first in Africa, coming to the West in 2024.

They're gonna kick everyone out? I don't think they need that many carbon credits.
the forests have to be protected, this story leaves a lot of questions and even some of the people interviewed were not from the ogiek community, kenya has a forest cover of only 10 per cent and Mau forest is very important to kenya as a whole, the government should resettle this community some where else.
This Mau Forest does it any connection with the Mau Mau people? I remember that the last concentration camps that Britain operated were in Kenya from 1951-1960 because of the Mau Mau upraising.

there are no mau mau people, mau mau is a british exonym of unclear origin for a multi-ethnic insurgent organization that called itself the kenya land and freedom army.
Climate Justice achieved! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Dissatisfied with being in the way of progress, now they also stay in the way of environmental protection
Now there is something to fight for! Really fight for! Wonder what Greta would say?
Huh?
3:40 the point of a government is to use power to care for your people- not use them like a vampire / obayifo
Mau forest was intact before moi regime took people from different places to destruct the forest.
What did y’all think was going to happen?? LOL
Sounds like a CON JOB
Well said. The GoK is very much committed to serving the Ogiek people.
