He was great with story songs. He still holds the record for holding the number one song on the charts I believe it was 132 weeks in a row and not just one song again I believe over that period he had 5 songs to make number 1 on the charts. Look him up and you will not believe what he did. I love listening to any song he sings. I saw him in concert at Clemson University back in 1980 if you saw him in concert it was the best.

Oh hi. About Lionel Richie the song writer. There was really no way that Kenny Rodgers could take credit for this song Richie was huge in the music world. He did write it for Kenny however. He started as the lead singer for the Temptations. Some other songs he wrote like this one were Easy, Three Times a Lady, Still and Sail On. His biggest U.S. popularity was in the 70s and 80s. He sang at Michael Jackson's funeral and in 2017 received the Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime achievement. You could try another of his songs at some point.
