In 1982, I got a visitors visa to visit friends in Canada. Kenny Rogers was coming to Edmonton a month after my visa expired. We got tickets, and I went to Immigration Services and convinced them to let me stay longer so I could go to the concert. It was a great time!

Kenny was huge in the 80s with songs like The Gambler and Love Will Turn You Around. He also did some acting. He is worth digging into more. Great reaction.

Right after Kenny died, Lionel was on the Bobby Bones show. He said “I just lost 1 of my heroes”, that he met Kenny when he was trying to figure out leaving the Commodores & going solo & said, “God sent me an angel.” He credited Kenny as 1 of the people who taught him how to treat others saying, when they met, “you couldn’t get any bigger than Kenny Rogers” but “within 15 seconds, he made me feel like we grew up together.”

If you haven't watched it there is a video (from some sort of award show) where Kenny Rogers was asked to sing this song and he called Lionel Richie up to sing it with him and it is amazing and so special.

During the 80's Kenny Rogers was the absolute top performer in Country Music. He was so popular that his music crossed over to the other music charts. I mean straight country music on the pop and r&b charts. And, Lionel Richie was one of the top 5 song writers of the 80's. His music helped the Commodores one of the best bands of the time. Lionel's solo career, there are not enough words to describe. So wether you start with Kenny, The Commodores, or Lionel, you are in for a fantastic ride. A few suggestions: KENNY: COWARD OF THE COUNTY LUCILLE THE GAMBLER LIONEL: TRULY DANCIN ON THE CEILING ALL NIGHT LONG HELLO THE COMMODORES: BRICK HOUSE STILL THREE TIMES A LADY ZOOM EASY JESUS IS LOVE

Kenny's career spanned more than 60 years and 21 number 1 hits. That growl in his voice was so recognizable and made women everywhere swoon. If you have to pick a genre, he's generally considered country, but his early career (with the group The First Edition) was more rock and throughout his career he had many cross-over (mostly pop) hits. He had great storytelling songs such as "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town", "Lucille", "The Gambler" and "Coward of the County" among others, as well as love songs like this one ("Lady"); "She Believes In Me,", "Through The Years” and "Buy Me A Rose" come to mind. He did duets with a number of artists, probably best recognized for those with Dolly Parton including "Islands in the Stream" and "You Can't Make Old Friends". He passed in 2020 at 81.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Kenny Rogers. A true class act, treasure, and absolute MASTER of country music. And besides Reba - one of the BEST storytellers. The Gambler and Coward of the County are a MUST listen. And my favourite ballads are Through the Years and Love Will Turn You Around. His duet with Dolly Parton is also a classic. Lionel Ritchie is also an amazing rabbit hole to go down. All Night Long, Dancing on the Ceiling (awesome video), and Only You are my favourites. Enjoy the ride!!

Dude, you never heard of Kenny Rogers? :) You've been missing out. He has to be the king of country-pop crossover songs of his time. Definitely had charisma--masculine yet tender--with that husky, intimate voice that makes women feel as if he is singing just to them. In addition to love songs, he did some great storytelling songs. "The Gambler" is perhaps the most well-known and memorable of them, and a great one to check out.

Kenny's group was The First Addition .( before he went country). Their song Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In. Also check out his duet with Home Free Children Go Where I Send Thee. This was towards the end of his career and still had it

Kenny is a goat of country. Tons of great hits & a voice that sounds like no one else. He has some really cool 'story' type songs like 'Coward of the county', 'The Gambler' & 'Fine time to leave me Lucille'. My fav by him is 'Through the years', another beautiful tune like this one. He also has a few great hit duets with Dolly Parton. He has also acted in a few westerns. You also need to look into Lionel Richie. In fact, the performance of this song by the two of them a couple years before Kenny passed was amazing. Both artists had recorded it & then back in 2018 maybe, at a county music award show, they did it together & the friendship between the two made me cry. It was a beautiful thing to see. Lionel was in the band the Commadores with great hits like 'Brick house' years ago & then went solo & has a ton of hits like 'Hello?' & 'Dancing on the ceiling' to name a few. Now he is also a judge on American Idol.

Absolutely love your reactions! Kenny did a song with an acapella group Home Free called Children Go Where I send Thee. It was done shortly before he passed away. You should check it out. If you do not know who Home Free are you should check them out as well. They are an all-vocal group. Everything you here comes from their mouths. Their beat boxer is in a class by himself. Please check them out you will not be disappointed. By the way Home Free did The Gambler in memory after Kenny passed away.

Anton, please watch the live performances of Kenny Roger's and Dolly Parton singing the 2 different duet songs, "WEVE GOT TONIGHT" and "Islands in the Stream". You will be blown away how amazing he sounds singing with Dolly. They look so good together they look like they would have made a great couple but they were just best friends with good chemistry. And Kenny and Dolly were also so funny joking around on stage after they sang We've Got Tonight. You will see another side of Kenny amd hiw he can entertain a crowd even without singing. The same way Dolly can. Because they have such great personalities and character.

Love the song and video. The video with Kenny sings this song with Lionel Richie is amazing too. You probably know this already. Many don't. There is 2 types of country music. Southern country Tennessee, Alabama as examples of the area. Southwestern Country. Texas, Arizona, etc. There is the group of singers called the Outlaws, because of actually been locked up for some reason or another. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, etc. Then like Brooks & Dunn, Lonestar...... Out of curiosity in Canada how do you classify ShaniaTwain and Mariah Carey (back in the day lol)?
