I currently wear my remote pilot license as a lanyard badge whenever flying and I've actually considered getting something like "I'm an FAA licensed remote pilot and I'm not breaking any laws" printed on the back of a jacket to wear while flying. The complete ignorance by the general public regarding drone flying is astounding. Love your channel Ken, you're a good egg!
Does the misinformed member of the public get a letter? Maybe just to let them know what they thought was illegal or a violation of regulations was in fact perfectly legal and compliant? I'm not sure why you, the person who has done nothing wrong, needs to receive two certified letters, three emails, and several phone calls.

I do believe that "Mr. Spazzy-pants" gets a notice of how the complaint was resolved, yes. (Hopefully, that will be the end of it.)

candlstudios I agree if you get a letter saying you are within regulations & not doing wrong. The person whom complaint should get a letter also regarding the regulations and that THEY were wrong.

Martin Rodgers it should also state that if they keep lodging complaints just for the sake of lodging complaints then they’ll be charged for wasting taxpayer dollars.

One can also do records requests to get info of complaint...there is info no matter what they say. One may have to dig a bit. If they continue to make baseless complaints harassment charges or something similar can usually be filed.

Thanks Ken for having our back on this. First and foremost it is fun to freaking fly. This ole world will have people that will not understand no matter how its put to them. Thank you FAA for helping our Friend Ken out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANA, Best wishes for the next year.
Just passed my Part 107 yesterday and now waiting on my certification. Thanks for mentioning that you need to re-register your bird as Part 107 on top of recreational. Looking forward to more of your drone videos 😎
At first, I found your videos annoying, but you won me over. Funny and informative. Thanks for taking the time to put this all together. Great job!

Ken, thank you for the work you do. Besides being fun to watch, your videos are educational. ALL your videos that are watched by young people, walk away a little smarter without knowing it, because of them. Whomever is complaining about you is a fool with no life. They obviously have nothing going on in there own life so they picked you and now have a cause to live for. God forbid, they complain about and fight for human rights, animal cruelty, human trafficking or any cause where there complaints may have a positive affect in this world where we all must live. NO, they picked on a man flying a toy helicopter. (sorry, I know its not a toy but for better affect I used the term). Please keep up the good work. The fool or fools that are complaining about you, hopefully will be schooled on what truly matters in this world. Will finally grow up and find something, anything where there complaints will make a difference. I will be looking for future videos from you!!! Sincerely, from a fan, Ed😎
Happy Birthday Dana.
great vid, I do have to ask though as of today have any of these laws changed. Can a non 107, (just someone like me that is registered as hobby only with FAA) still fly their drone there like that with no problems just for my vids and pics and not for commercial use or is only 107 allowed like that? thanks for your great vids, I enjoy them
Good for you sir !! I agree as aggravating as the FAA can be, I am glad they are there for us. All of us.
Happy Birthday Dana!
So just to make sure, if you aren't flying for commercial purposes you're now no longer required to register yourself or your drone? Just trying to make sure because I'm not seeing that anywhere else on the net.

X-Jet pointed that out a month ago and I just lust looked at the FAA's web site via thedroneauthority.org/drone-regulations/ and it still says: "effective December 21, 2015 all Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones) are required to be registered with the FAA" and therefore I MUST register my "drone" if it weighs more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) and cites Public Law 112-95, Section 336 - Special Rule for Model Aircraft FAA Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft... So I looked up who "The Drone Authority" is and learned they are no "Authority" at all and just some organization making money off scamming people by charging $25.00 to register your 251 gram drone with the FAA for 3 years. See: thedroneauthority.org/register/ Todays date is July 4th, 2017 BTW and it still says: "If you fail to register your drone, you could be subject to civil and criminal penalties, including fines of up to $250,000 and/or up to 3 years in jail." They claim to assist drone pilots prepare for the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test for commercial drone operators while at the same time they still claim everyone must register with the FAA while charging money to do so showing a dishonest money making business in effect willing to lie as they have had double ample time to post the truth by now. Most people will say and do anything for money and that's not good for the RC hobby under attack. Honestly the only reason IMO you can still buy a "drone" is there is so much money involved and everyone is trying to get a piece of it. www.onlinedroneregistration.com/recreational-drone-registration-packages Is another website doing the same scam except they offer a frickin 9 yr registration package for $36 dollars unless you pick "express" for $39.00. www.onlinedroneregistration.com/ is yet ANOTHER FAA Drone Registration site and clearly states "Drones Over 0.55 Pounds Must Register. Takes 5 Minutes. Start Flying Today!" www.drone-registration.net is also another FAA Online Drone Registration "service" scam but they offer a free "FAA Compliant Label with FAA Registration. Fast & Easy." Getting robbed is usually fast and easy in the right neighborhood... The FAA obviously is aware of this ongoing scam but just to be safe in stating it I went to the FAA's own website again at registermyuas.faa.gov/ and sure enough it still says "You need to register your aircraft if it weighs between 0.55 lbs. (250 grams) and up to 55 lbs. (25 kg)" and AND Joeblow had no problem registering his fake drone until "his" credit card # was needed. So take a good look at the people involved. "Drone Authority" and all these other FAA Registration scam web sites need to be sued and shut down as we need honest people driving where we go from here... and as much as I hate to say it that includes the FAA itself as well that is OBVIOUSLY now disobeying a Court Order and the Will of The People through their own Congress. Mind bending is a new game replacing Law and Order and the trolls in use playing with e-motion know it well after being trained in the art of deception using the symmetry of language.
I love you're videos, I can see yours video 24 /7 and never get tired 🙏🙏

Happy Belated or early Birthday Dana since I am just now checking out this video. Great job Ken! The FAA keeps us all safe.
I posted a picture of a drone flying with a beer attached to it (DJI Phantom, that's about all I know) to my Facebook. I had someone completely lose their mind on me. They said they were going to get me thrown in jail, they were contacting the FAA, and I was being childish. This was back in July. Here's the weird part- They must have completely and totally glossed over the fact that I was not the one flying the drone. It wasn't my drone. It wasn't my phone that took the picture. It wasn't me that took the picture. The picture wasn't taken in the USA. The drone was, obviously, also not in the USA. The picture was sent to me by someone else, in another nation, and I just posted the picture to my Facebook. And- I am telling the honest truth here (seriously, I really mean this)- up until just last week, I had never so much as touched a drone. I still haven't flown a drone that costs more than $50. So I wonder what that complaint looked like to the FAA? It's also important to note that the person that went off on me is in his 40s and still lives at home with his mom, and mom buys everything for him.
@KenHeron
6 жыл бұрын
+StaticImage Haaaaa!! I had one of those over 40 still living at home in his mom's basement with a bunch of cats people after me as well! You have nothing to worry about. Some people just need to flex their idiot muscle. If they really tried reporting you to the FAA, I GUARANTEE nothing will happen. The FAA would have a good laugh at the idiot's expense. Put any were you might have about this behind you and go have a nice, ice-cold beer!
@StaticImage
6 жыл бұрын
What my main question is is this- I hadn't even touched a drone at that time, so if this guy reported me (he knows me well enough to know where I live, but you'd also think he'd know well enough to know that this was from another person in another country altogether, but I digress), how would he even report it? Report it as a guy with no drone who posted a picture of something he didn't like? If so, I just hope that he got a nice reply from the FAA about how he shouldn't waste their time. But the picture was impressive... it was taken at the very last possible second, so it doesn't show much, but it looks to me like someone tied a beer bottle to the skids on a Phantom and flew it to somebody else. I've been to the area where it was taken a few times since then, and I keep my eye out for this, hoping they'll do it again, but they never do :-(

Bwahahahahahah, that's a good one.
If you're a part 107 certificate holder you will have to re-register.. that is until a court decides that part 107 is still regulating model aircraft.. whether you are being compensated for footage or not, if you aquire the footage from a model aircraft, it is outside the scope of the FAA'a authority. they regulate Aircrafrt operations and their activities within the airspace system. They do not have the authority to regulate commerce as is pertains to model aircraft.
Hey Ken, absolutely LOVE your videos! Your knowledge and sense of humor make every one of them fun to watch. On a side note, I'm interested in getting my Part 107...I've been flying drones for 5 years, and am ready to "take it to the next level", any advice on any online tutorials or classes that you'd recommend? I'd greatly appreciate it. Keep up the great work!!!

I agree. Although there are nice people at the bottom to communicate their feelings with the public the fact remains deception and violent brute force is Natures greatest tool of change, and used together usually works well to allow the strongest and smartest to survive in a gang... just the way it is. So be careful what you believe as it's hard to fight a pack of animals when caught in the wrong place alone with something they want as other animals will always join in for some table scraps and lie about it. Hard work and intelligence creates Freedom to support Freewill, not wishful thinking people in authority can be trusted. History shows they cannot be trusted and why. Laws that create Order ONLY work when applied top to bottom... just the way it is. Time to reset the game and let bygones be bygones without destroying buildings to start over while there is still time as those facing jail at the top will kill everyone in your family before they allow the US Legal system to work and prevail as they will lose everything and end up in jail themselves so have nothing to lose by taking you with them.
Thank you for this.. You ROCK, I very new to this.. and you have taught me alot of things

Great vlogs Ken - only just catching up on some of the older vlogs but all of them are fun to watch (don’t want to drone on ... 😉) bought a Mavic air 2 and here in the UK - we have them dudes lol 😆
Am I understanding this correctly that now even if my drone is a little over the .55 weight for it to be registered that now I don’t have to do anything about getting it registered only as long that I am flying my drone as a hobby and nothing else is this statement correct?
Happy Birthday from Woodstock Ct !!

Hi Ken! I have a question maybe you can help me! I'm from Chile and I'm going to the US in a few months and I'm planning going with my P3P (Or maybe selling it and buying with the same money a P4 there, haha) but, as a tourist do I have to register something or I can just fly as far as I do it in the propper places? There should be repercussions similar to making false police reports for making bad complaints. The FAA should also not be harassing people for reported legal activity.
