I love how the kelpie's true form is reflected in the water. Also, I don't know why, but I love that the kelpie murdered and probably ate the camera man. It just gives it a pretty classic horror feel to it all.

But the way it looks at its own reflection makes me wonder if the creature itself has felt guilty over what it does.

It's hard to say. Truth be told, most kelpies were known for luring people through their horse form and drowning them in the waters to eat them later. They could also shapeshift into handsome young men mainly seeking women for companionship--but somehow or other, they were usually recognized for what they truly were and the romance would fail.

Pebble Pellets True, there is a breed of dog called a kelpie, but in the case of this video and mythological folklore, a kelpie is a violent shape-shifting water spirit who usually takes the form of a horse in order to lure people to ride on his back (generally kelpies are male) so he can drown and eat his victims. Kelpies could also shapeshift into handsome young man in order to seek the companionship of young women.

That’s what a kelpie is, it’s a demon that usually takes form of a horse and it lures weary travelers onto its back, when they get on it gallops into the water and eats them... History for ya ;)

I don't know why, but this animation just feels so natural. To me, it doesn't paint the kelpie out as a horrible monster, but rather just a creature living it's natural life in it's natural habitat. Kelpie are such amazing mythical creatures. A lot of old mythical creatures seem to have lost their place in mythology, and just become plastic interpretations of childish creatures dancing on rainbows (or have been forgotten completely, like the piasa,) but the Kelpie remains the same haunting, terrifying, yet still beautiful beast it always was.

I love that the Kelpie doesn’t seem intimidating when it charges the camera but rather just looks like a curious horse looking to see who it was that was taking the picture rather than the kelpie turning into something scary like many videos similar to this would do. So for anyone who doesn't understand, I wanted to give some outlines of the kelpie. The kelpie is a mystical creature that lives underwater and feeds on fresh human flesh. The kelpie always kills it's victims itself to ensure the freshest meat. The kelpie often lives in lakes or swamps, where the water is deep and murky. The kelpie has two forms, one of them being the classic kelpie, and the other a beautiful white horse. The kelpie lures it's victims by standing by it's body of water while waiting for a human. The kelpie will lure it's victims on it's back and quickly run under the water, where it drowns and eats the corpses.

Kelpies are basically water horses of death. They basically look all beautiful and cute and innocent then convince their victim to get on their back, then they are stuck on the kelpie’s back and the kelpie drowns them and eats them. Also, as far as I know they don’t change appearance, mostly just the look of their eyes is kinder when they are tricking people.

The Kelpie is my absolute favorite thing/creature/mythical creature in the world. I can always be found talking about it or drawing it in different ways (fish tail, four legs, horse skull, normal head with sharp teeth, gills, no gills, etc). For a science presentation I made an educational presentation all about the facts of the kelpie and how to "keep safe" from one (how to tell by the wet mane and never climb atop a strange horse by some water). I've gone so far as to draw plans for an imaginary fish tank with bullet proof glass that could keep a Kelpie from escaping and not eating people but still have one as a pet.(Most girls want a unicorn but my dream is to own a equine that turns into a creature of nightmares) obviously that is just fun. But my sketch books and short stories are filled with kelpies. Thank you SO much for making this. It's one more link about kelpies I can spam my best friend with.

Fun fact: You can eat Kelpie, its meat tastes like a combination of beef and tuna, which tastes better when it's grilled. Its mane is actually aquatic plants, and preparing is similar seaweed which gives it a nice crunch. The best part of this creature is its oily fat, which you can make into high-quality soap and shampoo. All thanks to this series ~ *Delicious in Dungeon* by Ryoko Kui

That transformation upon leaving the water at the beginning was magnificent, I had to skip back and watch it for a second time. It was truly mesmerizing. The motions of the horse have been captivated brilliantly. They flow and transition such as you would see on the real thing and the several camera angles you chose were executed to an extraordinary degree. Everything fell together with artistic beauty, right down to the subtle sound effects that carry through with the music. They do not over lap one another, but rather flow in an angelic manner. This truly was 1:13 not spent with disappointment.

And I taimed you." And I said "so I'm a Kelpy?" And she like "what's that?" "A magical horse who's a normal horse on land but changes in the water and walks along the beach getting people to ride on its back." "Okay then yeah! You're a kelpy." "Except when people get on its back they cant get off. it only gets people on it's back so it can drown them and eat them!!" A Kelpie is a water fairy best known for taking the form of a beautiful horse to lure riders onto its back and then it takes off with them on its back and drags them back to the water and drowns them to eat. By the time most people realize something is wrong, they've become stuck to the Kelpie's back, because it's skin becomes like glue and you can not break free. They appear a lot in Irish & Scottish mythology.

@Amanda Martin I've also heard after they finish eating their prey, they make sure the organs of its prey are on the surface. (I may be wrong, its just what i heard.)

Kelpies are water creatures that take the form of a terrible beast underwater and become a horse when out of the water. They can also take the form off beautiful women luring men to their deaths. They are from Scottish folklore

I like this one a lot. Legend has it that there might be good kelpies, and this may be the take you took on it. Eating fish instead of humans, but protecting itself when need be. Lovely
