    That was amazing the animation was phenomenal and the horse anatomy was on point! I love the sketchy look to it really reminds the viewers that this was hand-drawn animation. Also, the story of the horse passing wasn't sad to me, not because it wasn't done well but knowing their life was given to the foal so they can start living a life they didn't get the chance to was beautiful. Finally being able to rest and reunite with their soul herd.

    The anatomy wasn't very accurate. Horses don't have eyebrows. They are also not needed for expression. A professional artist knows how to give horses facial emotional expressions without eyebrows.

  • @TheGoldenGecko

    @TheGoldenGecko

    9 ай бұрын

    @@blackshards3415 yes it is possible to give horses facial expressions without eyebrows however realism is limiting just compare the lion king with the live-action version the expressions convey emotions but not at the intensity and exaggeration of a stylized art style. It is all a personal choice and is intended for exaggerated expressions, not accurate expressions. The anatomy of the horses is as real as they intended for a fictional world Real horses don't show much emotion with their faces especially not at the level of humans which is why many artists choose to add them so the character can be personified and relate to a general audience more. Realism doesn't mean professional it is simply another art form that wishes to replicate real life this animation does not intend that and wants to show a fictional world of personified horses with a religious symbolism of life, and death perceived through the eyes of a personified horse.

    Vabbè quelle sono piccolezze date dallo stile artistico e non dall'anatomia, allora pure Spirit della DREAMWORKS è anatomicamente sbagliato perchè ha le sopracciglia? Non mi sembra proprio

    @@blackshards3415As an artist, the addition of eyebrows is not classed as anatomy, that's styalisation. The anatomy is correct as anatomy means body proportions and dynamics.

    A really outstanding piece of animation. Bittersweet yet affirming on life and its value, and how death comes but life goes on. The blending of styles with the spirit horses and the more detailed living ones is a great detail and really adds more to the piece and general feel. The spirits have a Secret of Kells stylization that works so well, with its harder structures and lines that gives the spirit horses a powerful, unearthly air, while also conveying how the spirit is stripped to an essence, beyond the trials that the flesh endured, and I loved the scene where the rest of the herd become spirits, leaving the older horse behind to convey that he is finally joining them. The first shot from the foal's perspective was beautifully done, capturing the fish-eyed lens look to very effectively impart what it was trying to, and leads in well with the close up on the older horse's eye in the beginning when he first meets the spirit. The characters are brilliantly expressive in that way, with even the spirits showing vivd emotions. Having the final shot being of the old horse's body was a brave choice, but I really think it demonstrates the central theme of the story very well. The choice in score was excellent and conveys the melancholy air and vibrancy perfectly. It fits both atmosphere and tone, and really adds an emotional depth to the entire production. Overall, this was such a heartfelt, well crafted short. Everyone involved should be proud of their parts in bringing it to life.

    Aww, this was lovely. There's something about horse stories that depict a very revered cycle of life and death. Almost every horse book or movie I've watched has a birth scene (and I've seen a ton that don't! But. Interesting trope.) The horse body language--especially in the living horse--was fantastic. I especially like how the Guardian had a very "still" and "blank" bodylanguage. It wasn't that the guardian spirit was empty or cold; it was just old and unafraid, but still had a priority of putting the elder horse at ease, and I like how that was depicted. I had two horses--the only one left is an old mare. My family adopted them both from a therapy center less than a decade ago, and sometimes it gets to me that they both lived a full life and probably had an entire herd of fellow horses come and go throughout their lives before we even adopted them. We can't really afford more horses, so Ohdahviing is just kickin' out her last days in the field, completely alone. The scene with all the horses stampeding and turning into spirits really reminded me of that fact. It hurt, but it was kind of comforting at the same time. This was a great short film! From an unrepressed horse girl who grew into a horse adult, this was a certified horse movie 10/10

    I watched this before work and I'm just. This is so amazingly done. Horses are so difficult to draw, much less animate, and this was the perfect style to do the story in. My precious cat passed earlier this year and I'm still grieving for him so when I saw that one scene in the end, I was hit with tears like a truck. The power of storytelling is so strong with the music, lighting, atmosphere, everything. I just love this so much and will be sharing it with others (fellow horse lovers at that!)

    I see a lot of people saying this wasn’t sad for them. I get their reasoning but for me it was. I don’t know why the horse died. I’m fearful it was neglected and left in an old cold drafty barn and died from the elements. It is sweet to know the horse is now with others and looks to be happy and warm. It is nice that a new life has begun. I still feel sad if my theory is correct about the cause of death. I was hoping to see comments explaining how it shows the death was from natural causes. However it seems most people are choosing to focus on the beauty in the rebirth. Where as I am stuck on the sadness of the final moments before death. Edit: Just read a comment from someone who worked on this. In it they said that Cricket is a wild horse who took refuge in the barn. Which made me do some reading. Where I learned how horses die of old age in the wild. And this was probably the best outcome possible. Wow so beautiful guys well done. Still bitter sweet but only because death is always sad.

    I was wondering about that too. At first I thought maybe it was lame because it seemed so surprised when appearing with the other horses that it could walk and run and play! But then they all left, and the old horse walked very slowly with the guardian after giving its essence away to the newborn. But then going back to the barn, you can see how drafty it is, snow coming down, vines in the cracks, like no one had been there for a long time. Part of me hopes it's just an old barn, at worse that the owner died and the horse had stayed there waiting and unable to go with the others, maybe even forgotten. But outright, purposeful neglect is just heartbreaking. 😢

    Thank you to the team for making and sharing this lovely piece. I love horses! Some of my best friends have been horses. I used to be very physically active. I roamed the wild places and lived in remote areas. Now I am crippled- physically disabled- and I miss roaming. I miss having horses. This beautiful piece is a vivid reminder that this physical life is temporary and my soul (and those of my deceased friends and family) live on in a heavenly place when we leave our mortal remains. I have many waiting for me on the other side of the veil. ❤ I will go there when I am finished with the work set before me, but I am not yet done with my duties here. Beautiful pieces of art/media such as this make me nostalgic for the past and hopeful for the future when I can slip the surly bonds of mortality and run on forever. ❤

    Well, for those wondering what fusion of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron and Wolf Walkers would look like, Viola! Immaculate job guys!
