Teaming up with Jocky against Alan Evans and Leighton with Sid on the comms in a pairs competition...it's a sad day - he was my first sporting hero

And a special shoutout to the two players who kept on playing at the time Eric's passing was announced, Peter Wright and Daryl Gurney, both visibly shaken, and I personally gotta feel Gurney, it wouldn't be easy to him for such a tragic thing to happen on the same day his baby was born... RIP Eric Bristow, legends never die and you certainly were one...

Staying only 5 miles away from Jocky back in the day I loved to hate Eric as a player, wasn't until later in life I appreciated how good he was and hearing him talk so highly of Jocky is brilliant, he was notably the only old school player to attend Jockys farewell, rest easy Eric

Only just read Eric's book a week ago , a great read , devastated , only played darts because of him , Rip big man !

a sporting icon, Eric was simply unique ! the crafty cockney made darts in the 80s, RIP Eric.

Bless him to get up on stage and say those words just hours after his pal died. Celebrity world is so different. The man on the street wouldn't be able to do that for a pal, in most cases. I liked Eric Bristow. He could be obnoxious and I often disliked much of what he said, but as someone who grew up in the '80s, in the era of darts' heyday and when shows like Bullseye were at their peak, Bristow was a legend of my childhood. Along with names like Cannon and Ball, Big Daddy and Steve Davis etc, one couldn't open a kids' magazine like Look-In without seeing an article or two about such folk. In honesty, I don't even think I'd have ever picked up a set of darts at any point if it hadn't been for Eric. Legendary fella.

Eric captured an era for me as a young darts player back in the seventies, I met Eric once and he came across to me as a bit of a flash git ha ha but nevertheless remained my darts hero and it's a sad and early loss of a great man.

Dear all... Thinking of Eric bristows family and children at this devastating time... He was an awesome player and mentored the best of all in Phil Taylor. Rest in peace Eric sadly missed in the world of Darts and forever.

I was shocked to hear of Eric's passing this morning, although I never met him in person, he will always be a dart role model to myself and so many others! I can only hope that when it's my turn to "checkout", that someone will remember me, and my life, with as much fondness & admiration, as so many of us remember him. I will raise my glass high today, and salute a true champion, although you never knew me personally, I miss you sorely already Eric. Your spirit is eternally engraved within this sport I love so much, & you will never be forgotten here.

I love the darts, Bristow is a legend. The episodes he appeared on Bulleyes for charity, I’d be excited all day. Great days! But sadly for me Darts has been ruined by the audience getting as loud as they do now. There’s always been a booze vibe and there should be, it’s a pub sport and one I love and grew up on but it seems to overbear the game now, It just seems to be all about the piss-up. Half of them didn’t even have the respect to shut up when Keith Deller started speaking. RIP Eric, years of entertainment watching you when I was growing up, what a huge loss at too young an age.

I hope Eric John Bristow is by our good God in heaven. I know he is. He was a darts player before my time. It's just sad when people go way too soon without the proper goodbye to family and friends. I hope all those people there tonight paying respect to Eric could ease the pain for his family. I know it's been a allmost a year, but he was a legend.

I am sorry, but I met Eric back in 2011 he was knocked out in the first round to a local player. The main concern was the free booze that Bristow could drink, he was scoring bed and breakfast for most of the games, I actually called him a drunken bum, to which he took rather well. It was the booze that killed him in the end. Once a legend, then in later years just a drunk.
