    They look like little jewels, the ones in my pond this season, anyway, there's no 'mutts', there's only outcross vigor, which is a good thing to have handy, with spendy inbred ones that can't go on forever like Targaryens

    I see the pretty guppies you have in your pond that you dont sell and i think "dang those look like what i am breeding now" granted you said they were your outdoor ones. I just had a moment where i thought "dang, this dude is levels ahead of me, he probably had as many of those as i have now and tossed them ourside because he had to rehome" i feel like your documentation of this stuff really hits home to people like me that are going out and doing it. I appreciate your videos and im sure a lot of others do too

And the Cherry Shrimp are exploding in numbers. Took a chance with the Odessa's in there, but the Cherry Shrimp are doing just fine. Started with 10, and probably have about 50-60 now.

    Hey LRB, love when you show us the outside setup, thanks. Quick Question you can maybe answer next time, how often do you feed the outdoor tubs or do you let M.Nature handle that too? Gets below Zero here for winter, do you think WCM minnows would survive till spring in outside mini pond?; liner in bricks above ground with skim & mini waterfall return, minimal insulation. Any advice welcome, thanks.

  • @LRBaquatics

    @LRBaquatics

    They survived under water for me but not sure how deep it is, as long as they dont get stuck in ice I think they would be ok. They hardly eat because they go into hibernation mode.

  • @yourlocaltoad5102
    @yourlocaltoad51023 жыл бұрын

    I‘m soon gonna build my own little mini pond for our balcony and I‘m kinda worried about insulation, since we get temperatures of up to -10C° / 14F and the tub will only be 90L / 23Gal, so it won’t have as much thermal mass. But luckily electricity is really cheap for us, so heating it won’t be a big problem.

    Update! Just finished building the pond yesterday. I used a 110L / 29Gal pond tub and just packed the whole thing in styrofoam and spray foam, gave it a nice wooden box around and that should be fine. Now I only have to find a grid to make it cat-proof and decide which fish I‘m gonna keep in there.

    Think this would be possible for a 300g pond for a dovii over winter in new england ? I am debating giving it a shot building it before this winter and insulating it very well with home insulation. I’m just afraid of the electric bill lol.

  • @LRBaquatics

    @LRBaquatics

    11 ай бұрын

    Yes and yes the electric bill will jump a bit in the winter. I heard electricity over there isn’t cheap. I do recommend to back your heaters up with other heaters in case one malfunctions and to take the power load off each and why I ran 4 500 watt heaters in mine which would be effective enough for 300 gallons just make sure there on sand and not plastic or they can melt it. They also make inline heaters which is how they heat hot tubs. Bit pricier though.

    This is a little late. You are in Indiana, I know it gets pretty hot up there and it looks like your tubs are in full sun. How do you keep the temps from hitting the upper 80s and 90s? Im in FL so we can get away with heaters for a few days in winter although I might do something similar to your insulated boxes.

  • @LRBaquatics

    @LRBaquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    They were pretty much full sun and would get the heat but since it was only for a daily moment and cool off comes at night its not a problem. Having substrate also helps hold cold or hot depending on climate and acts like an insulator.
