There's something really neat about a pond full of random guppies.. Probably some really cool color mutations in there

They look like little jewels, the ones in my pond this season, anyway, there's no 'mutts', there's only outcross vigor, which is a good thing to have handy, with spendy inbred ones that can't go on forever like Targaryens
I see the pretty guppies you have in your pond that you dont sell and i think "dang those look like what i am breeding now" granted you said they were your outdoor ones. I just had a moment where i thought "dang, this dude is levels ahead of me, he probably had as many of those as i have now and tossed them ourside because he had to rehome" i feel like your documentation of this stuff really hits home to people like me that are going out and doing it. I appreciate your videos and im sure a lot of others do too
Could definitely watch these guppy’s all day 🤓

Those longfinned Zebra Danios from the pond were huge!
Those red and blue are wonderful. I like the yellow also. Really love the entire pond. Wait till your ponds are in the ground, then the Racoons will be an issue.
Nice outdoors pond. Tons of guppies😍
Awesome video!!
Beautiful fish in outdoor ponds.
Dang, there are a LOT of fish out there breeding away. 👍💕👍
I currently have a fully planted 75G with driftwood and lava rock, and have Silver Dollars, 35 Odessa Barbs, Julii Cory Cats, 2 Gouramis, and more, and also have Red Cherry Shrimp. And the Cherry Shrimp are exploding in numbers. Took a chance with the Odessa's in there, but the Cherry Shrimp are doing just fine. Started with 10, and probably have about 50-60 now.
Hello!! Looking good out there!
Mum bought a greenhouse. I'm building tubs similar to yours so we can breed our fish year-round in Tennessee. Your way is simple and it works!
The aquarium is great, man
For my tropical pond I did something similar. I bought a metal stock tank, two giant tank heaters and a lid. Even when it's around 30 degrees the pond stays around a toasty 75 degrees and all the fish, including the cold water fish, enjoy it.

Awesome! Maybe you can also buy some small plastic greenhouses over them :-)
In Australia one of those 6 foot or so sheets cost around 60 AUD, with the exchange rate its prob 40USD
harbor freight sells a 6X8 foot poly carbonate greenhouse for 329$. you could build it over the tub. or just use the poly panels, might be cheaper.
Beautiful day! Love the mutt guppy pond. You should sale some mutts. I would buy some to add to my mutts. I love mixed guppies. I have a 33 long full of colorful mutt guppies.
Had no idea sword tails hibernate.
Nice porch and backyard. You should toss some of those fallen leaves into your tank rather than catappa leaves.
Hey LRB, love when you show us the outside setup, thanks. Quick Question you can maybe answer next time, how often do you feed the outdoor tubs or do you let M.Nature handle that too? Gets below Zero here for winter, do you think WCM minnows would survive till spring in outside mini pond?; liner in bricks above ground with skim & mini waterfall return, minimal insulation. Any advice welcome, thanks.
@LRBaquatics
4 жыл бұрын
They survived under water for me but not sure how deep it is, as long as they dont get stuck in ice I think they would be ok. They hardly eat because they go into hibernation mode.
I‘m soon gonna build my own little mini pond for our balcony and I‘m kinda worried about insulation, since we get temperatures of up to -10C° / 14F and the tub will only be 90L / 23Gal, so it won’t have as much thermal mass. But luckily electricity is really cheap for us, so heating it won’t be a big problem.

Update! Just finished building the pond yesterday. I used a 110L / 29Gal pond tub and just packed the whole thing in styrofoam and spray foam, gave it a nice wooden box around and that should be fine. Now I only have to find a grid to make it cat-proof and decide which fish I‘m gonna keep in there.

Try to add 20 Amano shrimps they would eat the green tread algea...
It's hard to tell but do you drill tiny holes in the covers for air to get in and out?
Hey,I’m in Sain t Augustine Fl.I have a 40 Gal stock tub outside on Concrete.There are 10 White Clouds,what would you reccomend I do,for Summer Months ,to keep the water from getting to hot?
I got a 125 gal pond with a gulper catfish that is tropical what watt heater would I need to keep him warm in north Carolina?
I think you need to seal the ends of the covers if you don't they will fill with green make sure you get all of the moisture and dirt out before you do so and put a peak in the middle before you seal it with tape or the rain will bowe it in the middle love your vids wish I could do this but it's Too cold here

Hey man I'm about winter soon, lows around 50 degrees at nights here in California, I have guppies and endlers in a few coolers and was wonder if they would survive at that temp?
@LRBaquatics

I would pull them that’s too cold especially for a long period of time
Think this would be possible for a 300g pond for a dovii over winter in new england ? I am debating giving it a shot building it before this winter and insulating it very well with home insulation. I’m just afraid of the electric bill lol.
@LRBaquatics
11 ай бұрын
Yes and yes the electric bill will jump a bit in the winter. I heard electricity over there isn’t cheap. I do recommend to back your heaters up with other heaters in case one malfunctions and to take the power load off each and why I ran 4 500 watt heaters in mine which would be effective enough for 300 gallons just make sure there on sand and not plastic or they can melt it. They also make inline heaters which is how they heat hot tubs. Bit pricier though.
Ur definitely one of the best in the business by far and o.f.r
This is a little late. You are in Indiana, I know it gets pretty hot up there and it looks like your tubs are in full sun. How do you keep the temps from hitting the upper 80s and 90s? Im in FL so we can get away with heaters for a few days in winter although I might do something similar to your insulated boxes.
@LRBaquatics
Жыл бұрын
They were pretty much full sun and would get the heat but since it was only for a daily moment and cool off comes at night its not a problem. Having substrate also helps hold cold or hot depending on climate and acts like an insulator.
Can you put heaters in all of your tubs to keep them warm. Thanks.
@LRBaquatics

It feels like you only just uncovered the tubs from winter and now you're covering them back up for another winter. Where did the year go?. Those new tops look good. Maybe if you seal the ends of the tops it might keep in a bit of warm air for overnight. Every little bit helps.

I would keep doing it until they are gone. Not sure why it hasnt worked for you but sometimes they can be stubborn and have had it bad enough it took me more than twice. It helps if you add a little water and mash it into a paste then mix that into more water to create a solution that distributes evenly.

We have around 2000 gallons worth of fish tanks and ponds in our garage here in Virginia and during the winter to keep it warm my dad covers all of the poorly insulated spots in the garage as well as the tanks themselves in aluminum foil and uses room heaters in addition to keep everything warm. Our garage is actually much warmer than the inside of our house during the winter months.
