This video, narrated by Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, highlights the effort and dedication of the staff of the Jane Goodall Institute who are, every day, providing care to the more than 150 chimpanzees of the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of Congo.

    They really should not drink out of bottles. First of all this is an unnecessary and inappropriate humanization of animals in my view. And secondly, there are not bottles in the wild either. So they rather should learn how to drink from kind of bowls or puddles which they will rather find in their natural habitat. And these chimps are not even babies anymore.

    I cannot believe you actually feel for these disgusting creatures. Chimpanzees deserve to be slaughtered like pigs and be sold as meat while at the same time torture the baby chimps while they witness their mothers get shot, skinned, and slaughtered like a pig in a slaughterhouse.

  • @mchevre

    @mchevre

    @@MultiStar83 The bottles perfectly replicate the natural behavior of breastfeeding. By your logic, baby chimps shouldn't breastfeed because nature isn't filled with nipples, so instead their mothers should squeeze the milk into a leaf or something so they can drink it that way (obviously absurd). Also, they pretty much are still babies/toddlers, at least in the chimp world. Baby chimps look a lot more developed than human babies (human babies are born relatively "premature" compared to other apes), and not only that, but chimps naturally breastfeed for a lot longer than human kids do (in fact, the relatively early weaning of human kids from breastfeeding is a cultural development not found elsewhere among apes). Thus, the bottles are mimicking nature, and by the time they're weaned off the bottles, they'll have already long practiced and perfected the skills of drinking water directly, without a nipple or spout.

    @@mchevre Who would have thought...I know they probably would starve to death if they don't get bottles at the beginning and they don't have a mother's breast to feed. But still, personally I do not like the sight of animals drinking out of bottles. It just seems not right to me in general.

    I was a kiddie in Scotland and knew little of Primates, but at 12 I fell oin love with a goddess named Jane. I believe my teacher actually knew her, as he said, "I have a friend who is interested in Monkey's, and he talked about her a whole lot. Time never stopped though, and the sadness day of my life was when daddy got transferred from Irvine to Connecticut. It remained a sore point with daddy and myself, as my fears turned out to be correct, and never saw grandparents again, in a physical sense. Time knocked on the door once again, and and it was a war the US was in, and at 17 I joined the military, as my daddy and his brother flew out out of Ireland for the RAF. It was expected of me to serve, so for 4 years 69-73 I served my country, but kept my eyes open for a woman that looked like Jane. I was successful and 1972, I fell in love with a girl of 16. She sits in the chair this very moment, so our decisions were correct. I really never lost Jane though as I read everything and in 1973, I landed a great job working on cooling systems for keeping nuclear devices at a temperature they enjoy. Deb and I mated a wee bit early and at that time, guy's like me were in demand so came back to Ohio. We married and we were blessed with great children, and grandchildren. One of them we raised his entire life, as British folks just do that without a blink. God blessed us with this privilege and every week he has to go to the Zoo, and on each occasion he heads for one special Silverback Gorilla. I was stunned when witnessing what this 7 year relationship has produced. This Gorilla no matter what he is doing, heads for Billy. This pair communicates with each other on a level thats beyond my comprehension, as Billy only makes weird sounds. I am 70 now and in a wondrous manner, I can thank Jane for being the catalyst in getting me to love Primates, and still Jane retains her beauty, inside and out. Class, pure Class. Take care old friend. Bill

    So these caregivers go into the adult chimps enclosures? They also let adult chimps into the forest everyday and they all return home together at the same time? if this is all true then it's remarkable.

    FrenchCanadianGirl O'Hara my comment was about humans going into the adult area, you know with wild alphas. Not the quarantine/sick section.

    I think it'd be too dangerous to go into the adult enclosures. I mean heck look at chimp eden the guy worked with them for years but eventually the alpha had enough and basically kicked him out of the group. Chased him out.

    Wow this sanctuary looks amazing, what a job they do for these chimpanzees, specially the little ones are so cute. Wish humans didn't kill or steal them and destroy their homes.
