Icon: The Life of Jane Goodall

Jane Goodall is one of the world’s most prominent experts on chimpanzees. She has devoted her life to animal welfare, human rights and the environment. Goodall spent 55 years studying wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. During her research, Goodall discovered that chimpanzees could make and use tools, and that they have personalities and emotions similar to human beings.
In 1977, Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute, a global organization committed to conserving and protecting chimpanzee habitats. The institute's "Roots and Shoots" program focuses on empowering students to work on environmental, conservation and humanitarian issues. In 1986, Goodall changed her focus from observing chimpanzees to becoming an activist for human rights, animal protection and environmental conservation. Today, at the age of 82, Jane Goodall travels the world 300 days a year to promote awareness for chimpanzees, human rights and protecting the environment.

This is a wonderful interview! I loved the choice of questions and of course, Jane sis always so thoughtful, yet eloquent with her speaking. She’s such a fascinating person and it’s beyond amazing that she stills works so hard at her age! The passion she has is so inspiring…I truly wish to pour into a passion as intensely as she does. She knows her purpose.

Jane Goodall, Such a wise and wonderful person, who gives us hope and meaning for the future, that there is still time to change our behavior,, to start thinking in a different way about animals and our environment. I’ve always been an admirer of her ever since I read about her in National Geographic, and like Jane, my dog taught me at a very young age, so I’ve always understood that all creatures have feelings and emotions, even annoying roaches lol, Thank you for a most delightful interview, Peace

She is wise and wonderful. We must use the tools currently at our disposal to springboard humanities change. So we can all grow and learn to live in symbiance and harmony with the ecosystems of our Earth. All life has the same right to life and not be enslaved, exploited or harmed/killed. We must learn how to life in harmony again and not destroy every system we touch. Jane realized we must use our tools at our disposal to change humanities future by changing the education of the next generations. A very wise, spiritual and wonderful person. And she is so right in her classic statement. "We must have money to live. But things go wrong when we live for money". Sooo true.

What an icon she is. Now anyone who believes animals don't have emotions or personalities is the dumbest person on earth. They have clearly never interacted with an animal.

While I always had an appreciation for miss Jane’s contribution to the understanding of the Great Ape species and such, I’ve always thought of her as somewhat less of a pragmatist is relation to using fossil fuels than she is, until I saw this interview. Thanks for this.

My comment about relatiionships between animals and humans Let's Understan the DIFFEREND between a ANIMAL S and HUMANS . ANIMALS are created to behave as an ANIMAL and HUMANS as Humans It is IMPOSSIBLE to FORCE AN ANIMAL to behave like a HUMANBEEN ONLY GOD CAN. LET'S USE OUR COMMENSENCE.

With all respect, you are making arguments based off your beliefs. You are entitled to your beliefs but claiming that the assumptions you make because of them are common sense is frankly ridiculous. Wouldn't common sense dictate that the person who has spent the majority of their life, living with and studying chimpanzees be the person most suited to explain their nature?
