One of the most amazing treks in Karnataka. Kavaledurga fort trek is most famous for travelling and trekking. We recently visited Kavaledurga a must visit location in Shivamogga, Teerthahalli. The fort was built in the 9th century, and it was renovated in the 14th century by Cheluvarangappa.
Also called Bhuvanagiri, was a stronghold of the Nayakas of Keladi.
Venkatappa Nayaka (1582-1629) fortified the place here. Built a palace and made it an Agrahara with a Mahattina Matha. We can still see the ruins of the palace and ponds etc. The walls of fort is standing still. The fallen pillars of palace tells many stories. The systematic arrangements in side the palace could be still seen. Wide halls, rooms, toilets, kitchens seen clearly.
It is about 2 hours trek either I call it hiking. We could find travelers of all age easily hiking enjoying the environment around. The Kavaledurga timings is between 7am to 4pm.
One of the must visit locations around Shivamogga and Teerthahalli.
