When Catherine turned 5, foster parents were selected from more than 300 applicants. Catherine’s name was changed by her new parents, Gladys and Norman Riker, to Joan Riker and she grew up away from Pittsburgh to preserve her anonymity. Maturing into a fine young woman, Joan married in 1957 and raised her own family, sons Michael and twins Richard and Robert and a daughter, Lisa. Graduating as a nurse from Cornell University in 1951, Catherine/Joan spent a good part of her time proudly working with children.
Catherine/Joan passed away on September 9, 1994 at age 65, but her inspiration and motivation to help children in need burns brightly today through Variety - the Children’s Charity. John Harris, who owned the Sheridan Square Theatre, went on to become the first president of Variety - the Children’s Charity International.

She has such a beautiful clear voice, pleasant sound, no nasal, just angelic! Love them!

Why she never reached the success of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson, I'll never understand.
Oh my goodness, Kat! You just ministered to my soul. I had goose bumps the entire time. Your presentation of the song perfectly matched the lyrics and didn't take away from the story and message. Wow, that was beautiful! Thank you. And David, your touch on the piano is so remarkable. You don't just play the piano. You minister and pierce our hearts when you play.
I saw “Waitress” (starring Katherine McPhee) with my daughter at the end of November, 2019 and man….I think I might’ve cried throughout the entire show, but when she sang this song….I was a mess. (OG teen mom here.😸 but we made it! She’s 19 & I’m 37. We survived it, baby!) We had stellar seats & I was literally blown AWAY by the powerful beauty & authentic emotion of this song. I can’t imagine anyone else in the role of Jenna & I feel so freaking lucky that Dylan and I were there to see one of her final performances during this run. It’s such a cherished memory, especially because my own mother had just died suddenly & I was like “no. Screw this thanksgiving bleakness. You & me, kid, we’re skipping that sad stuff and we’re going up to NYC to see some kick ass shows. Just the two of us.” It will absolutely forever be one of my best & most special memories …even though Dylan still makes fun of me for sobbing (especially hard) during this song. Just everything about this entire show was phenomenal. Aaaaand…I’m tearing up a bit, even now as I listen to this rendition.❤️

I was 19 when my son was born. Had not planned on being a mom. Had no idea how I was going to manage this but I knew that I loved him before he was born and that he was going to be my special little person. Today he is 40 years old and I can't even imagine not having him. I always found a way

A.M.a.Z.I.N.G.........This reminded me of my mom ..She was a single mother that raised 5 of us on working as a waitress for 30 years ... Katherine did a awesome job singing THANK YOU
