This song is exquisite. The emotion, pain, journey and self resignation are so perfectly imperfect. I listen to this, a safe place to land and basket case (heck so many more) when life is hard and I need some musical poetry, a good cry with a side of validation and emotive complexity. Thank you Sara, for all you share and give, you help many through the human experience.

YES! I feel the same exact way. You stated it so eloquently! It’s cathartic when I need a good cry and a reality check of just how strong and resilient I can be when life once again throws a major curveball. I also tend to berate myself for things I wish I did differently or for circumstances that are truly beyond my control. The life circumstances can be different, yet still resonate!

@@wendysaslow8631 I'm not the only eloquent one, you encapsulated it perfectly. This is also how I feel about safe place to land at the moment. Life feels so hard. With many things going wrong but Sara's music and even just her words - I'm a poet I've started many a poem after hearing a line that just resonated so deeply I couldn't let it go - help to remind us just how universal emotions can be. I too have a mean inner critic who makes it hard to see the sunlight often. I think this is why I love Sara's work the darkness is part of her soul so she can write from both joy and sorrow/pain. I hope one day I can see her in concert. I hope you are hangin in there? 💐

It took me years to get over “Gravity”. I would play it in hopes the person i once fell in love with would love me back. Then this song… how things broke me down, only for it to spin around to pick me up. Your music was almost like a self reflection of my life in just a few moments… i think things will get better. I hear you sweetie. But I left my abusive husband of 23 year 21 years ago. I have 5 grown children with him, and they all witnessed the abuse. I suffer from PTSD, anxiety, and panic attacks because of what I endured for so many years of my life. My grown children don't call me, and I have 5 beautiful grandsons who really don't even know me at all. I am broken, I am lonely all of the time. I do have a wonderful fiance, and he is a wonderful man, but these past few years have been really difficult. I'm in stage 3 kidney failure, and it seems that my kids just don't care. This song brings me to tears, and I want to post it one of these days on my Facebook page, in hopes that maybe my kids will see it as a cry for help. I'm not sure how much longer I can go on this way. I miss them all so much 😢

It's not simple to say Most days I don't recognize me These shoes and this apron That place and its patrons Have taken more than I gave 'em It's not easy to know I'm not anything like I used to be Although it's true I was never attention sweet center I still remember that girl She's imperfect but she tries She is good but she lies She is hard on herself She is broken and won't ask for help She is messy but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up And baked in a beautiful pie She is gone but she used to be mine It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person And makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over And rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who be reckless just enough Who can hurt but Who learns how to toughen up when she's bruised And gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck and be scared Of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'Til it finally reminds her To fight just a little To bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone but it used to be mine Used to be mine She is messy but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone but she used to be mine

I heard this song in a valley or cave or my life. I think we can all relate to the girl who use to be mine...beaten down with societal norms, lost in marriage, and drowning in motherhood. Someday I hope to revisit this song in a brighter light and remember that when it was hard it was also beautiful but i couldnt see it.
