I actually wasn't even aware that her brother was playing piano for her. My older brother is absolutely irreplaceable. I've loved this song so much already but I'm thankful to be enlightened on the sibling connection so it's very meaningful on a 2nd level now as well.

I love how her brother is always there to protect her and make great music. That's a bond that everyone should have with their siblings

My bet is he doesn't need or want the recognition that Billie gets, while performing "her" songs. Most songwriters just want the recognition for being songwriters, which is mostly behind the scenes. Obviously, when he sings his own songs, I'm sure he wants his own recognition.

Well, as a singer, I think she was really scared or stressed, and that impacted her breath support when she started the performance, but she became confident after looking at her brother. And yes, people think hitting high notes is difficult (yes, some are indeed), but singing in that style requires a lot of breath control to remain on pitch all the time and avoid nasality or straining. She did a great job without in-ear monitors on top of that.

This song really moves me. I was a happy child, but after my teens and coming of age I just rarely felt happy. Always felt lacking, and not good enough. Never did find my place in the world or with anyone special. Now that I’m old, I’m finally free of all that striving, and now I’m happier. Strange how that could be. I don’t suppose that’s uncommon though and many people feel exactly as I have.

The second that performance ended while watching the Oscars, I immediately said "that's someone who deserves everything she has received". Such a talented duo and Billie still seems so genuine and humble and kind. Congrats!

My little girl just moved away. She just turned 20 a few weeks ago. I was divorced and she lived with her mother the last 5 years. I did my job as a provider and paid my child support and alimony. Health insurance. We went out to dinner all the time and she came over but we never really connected again. I miss her more than anything in my life. My soul hurts. Its a pain i cant explain. I love you kid and always have your back. Only the best wishes for you. This song I heard the day she left. It haunts me to the bone. Honestly because through the divorce i somehow started feeling a lot like this song and never really got my mojo back.

Not better, it's just here she chose to open up more as it is big venue. Occasion needed to expand the intimate holdback of the original recording and they have done it perfectly. They turned the notch up just enough. He is really musical genius and she is a great vocalist, this was beautiful. Intimacy on a grand subdued scale.

This had me weeping the first time I watched it. So raw, so beautiful and her vocals really pluck at the heartstrings with their vulnerability

Her haunting song tears me up inside every time. We are literally watching the great genius of Billie, and Finneas unfolding.

This song...whew, I cried when I saw this and tearing up now while watching again because God help me this is exactly how I've been feeling. For years. It's a bit healing to know it's loved by many. Who needs a hug? I know I do 😭

I think this is what music is meant to be! I always tear up watching this, because it makes me remember the magic of music and how much I would love to stand to such a big stage ❤ Billie is such an inspiirational girl!

Lol I don't even think it would crack the top 50.... you do know there used to be a time where good movies were made every year and they had great songs in them that were nominated...sung by generational talents....Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele, Judy Garland, Phil Collins.... It wasn't even the best performance of the night for Christ sake lol... Ryan Goslings performance blows this out of the water.

Shame the video cut away before it showed the audience reaction. I just loved that part. Beautiful performance though.

This song is so real. It touches the most sensitive and deep layers of what it is like to be human. It is beautiful, subtle and sublime.

The reveal of having her back to the audience to symbolize not finding her individual purpose as a singer to turning around, facing the audience, becoming "what she was made for" as an analogy that serves the song and it's movie, as well as Billie's own life (as expressed in interviews on the topic). Simple, effective, and visually stunning. Bravo, Billie. Bravo, Finneas.

Oh my god, I’m crying. This performance is so ICONIC. Love her voice, love her emotions, love her presence, everything is just phenomenal.

Her voice is so soft yet skillful. Many criticize her because it sounds like shes just whispering, but its so hard to sing in this tone and still be technical with her vibratos and all.
