KASABIAN: Fired! What Really Happened To Tom Meighan

In 2020, following a conviction for domestic abuse, Tom Meighan was dropped from Kasabian. This is the story of what really happened, told through the eyes and words of the victim herself, Vikki. And it's probably a version of the story you've not been told before.

So the only question is: what is to be seen on that video!? Being a "special" person like Tom must be hard for himself sometimes. But imagine being the other band members that have to cope with that behaviour day in day out. For 2 freeking decades. I think you can only help a friend with mental fragility mixed with drug abuse problems for some time before it starts to hurt yourself. I had to bring my best friend to a closed Clinic due to his drinking. It was his wish. The first time we both cried. By the tenth time I was empty. A person, in this case Tom or my best friend , had to find a way for himself to help himself. But it only got worse. Being together in the band with him would only make things worse for Tom. They couldnt safe Tom from being himself.

This is exceptional James. Thank you very much for addressing an injustice arising from an all too common thing - invisible disability. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is properly understood at pitifully low levels in our societies and it is surrounded by an atmosphere of legacy bullsh*t that is taking far too long to dissipate. That is not helped by a terribly inaccurate and unhelpful name. ADHD is a horrifically cruel, personally eroding disability of higher cognitive processes caused by profoundly deficient access to two neurotransmitters in our bodies - dopamine and norepinephrine. It can’t be managed by thought and choice, because those things manage thought and choice. Clinical ‘pillars’ of its disabling impact expand and extend vastly beyond what the diagnostic criteria (and popular notions) of the disability are when we transition through adolescence and adulthood - because those criteria and what the majority ‘know’ are based on juvenile humans, studies of kids 12 years old and younger. In adolescence and adulthood it morphs into a silent, hidden beast - the invisible hand that shapes every waking and sleeping moment of every day, and it eviscerates you, and it closely mimics a number of mental health conditions, so the norm is inaccurate diagnoses and inappropriate, not entirely effective medication - like putting bandaids on a thousand cuts. But it’s invisible, with a terrible PR issue because people have a preference and appetite for punishing, blaming and shaming individuals for their impairments - so getting trust and belief from others is terribly difficult. I damn near spoke over the wording of your descriptions of the historical events in this video - so effing predictable. So please, everyone that reads this - frame this in the correct way, and look at it through the correct lens: disability. When you do that, substitute a hypothetical ’bodily’ disability for the invisible disability, and use that as the basis to inform your internal storyteller when it wonders what Tom could have done to ‘overcome’ his disability (ie, in Tom’s situation, his ‘wheelchair’ is medication to regulate dopamine and norepinephrine), and your internal storyteller will come to the correct conclusion - without support and aid Tom could not have done what was required to overcome the barriers in his path and participate on an equal basis as others. So who is responsible for all of this? We all are. Tom is culpable but we are ALL responsible for getting better at managing invisible disability, because this is a predictably shameful episode. Thank you very much James. Also, congratulations to Tom and Vicki. It takes a special and beautiful person to voluntarily expand beyond what has been taught to accept, understand and accommodate invisible disability in an intimate partner relationship. Thank you to you Vicki for being exceptional and a superb human. Amazing!❤

Hi I am in tears watching this as I am so so grateful you made this video I was a massive Kasabian fan and Tom fan, when this all happened I told everyone that Tom had crashed and burned was sure he needed mental health treatment and most of all for such a a lovely soul that Tom is needed support. People he loved turned their back on him . Never ever is domestic violence acceptable but know deep down there was more to it. I am an ageing rock chick at 56 but who cares. Tom turning his life around and getting the help he needed I said a prayer for him to be looked after and make a recovery and that's what has happened and I am so happy he is bouncing back , to me Kasabian the band ended when Tom went as he was a brilliant front man and Serg just doesn't cut it he may have wrote the Kasabian songs but Tom brought them to life. Lastly another thank you to you for making this video.🙏❤️🙏

Well researched, great video - thank you. Very grateful for your words near the end. What you have observed about forgiveness - or lack of - is spot on. We have been taught not to forgive, the media are guilty of this teaching. To forgive others and to forgive oneself is SO powerful and has amazing benefits on health and wellbeing. I am rooting for Tom and I hope he is aware that damage can be avoided if he heals from the experience. Rejection and injustice can manifest physically as well as emotionally if left unresolved. Thanks again for your work and for making many aware of this lack of forgiveness and the injustice it causes. Compassion is lacking in the world. If more people learn Compassion the world would be so different. But to learn forgiveness and compassion it's important to unlearn what the media are teaching, and have been teaching for years, because it is very harmful not only to mental wellbeing but also physical health ❤

I really enjoy your videos and this topic is a tough one to tackle. My only concern with this story is that we don't and won't ever know the truth regarding this couple. Just because a 'victim' returns to her partner doesn't mean she isn't or hasn't been exposed to any level of abuse. Tom may well be a one off case of a drunken fight going way too far....but we may never know that. I'm glad he seems to have got sober and is working through his challenges.

I've seen this myself where victims of true domestic abuse will dumb down or lie about the severity of violent incidents because, ultimately, they love their partner and don't want to see their partner's reputation tarnished. So like you say - we'll never know the true level of what happened. I do however think the British press will jump to conclusions and it sounds like Kasabian wanted an excuse to kick him out, and this was the perfect one.

This is exactly what I was thinking. You can never just take the victim's word at face value, they could have clouded judgement or be threatened into silence/support. Sometimes therefore, it is right for the police to proceed without approval of victims. Buuuut, in this case it does sound like she may be correct especially if he's now sober, and I certainly hope so.

Beautifully researched documentary and as I myself have suffered a mental breakdown twice in my life & have connections on a small scale to my local music scene, I am very well aware of how exhausting mentally and physically any one gig can be due to the highs & lows of adrenalin surges. I like to do a lot of in depth research myself & trust my gut instinct a lot. I do not trust the mainstream media! Having listened to Tom's solo work, I was impressed and I have seen him on his acoustic tour. I have to say I highly recommend it. He came across as a lovely man. Great audience interaction, singling out people he recognised who had been to previous shows by name as well as great witty banter with other audience members The vibes I picked up on were, genuine passion for performing and his audience in an intimate grassroots venue setting - that in itself is helping enormously as our grassroots sector is still very much in the danger zone. Those who met him personally that night, all said he is a genuinely lovely bkoke Those who have only watched him on an arena stage need to see him in a more intimate setting. You get more of the real genuine Tom A man passionate about what he does with little hints of sadness at what happened in the past mixed with a positive energy and outlook for his future

I had briefly looked online why Tom and Kasabian had parted. This video explains everything. Early into Tom’s set he apologized stating that he had made a mistake. I think it showed at the beginning of his set that he was a little anxious. The crowd absolutely went mental for Tom’s set, especially for tracks like fire, clubfoot, and L.S.F , and don’t give in, how could you not. You could see Tom loved the crowd’s reaction and thanked the crowd more than once for the love and support. It was amazing. And knowing the details of what had happened now, he deserved the love and support. We all make mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. His set was amazing. Brilliant video thank you ❤

Thank you James. What a superb article. I agree wholeheartedly with you about the twitter mob and the press. Sadly large swathes of our human race descend into this intolerance and hatred, largely driven, in my opinion, by their own low self esteem and jealous insignificance. It is a shame that Tom and Kasabian parted in this way but, hopefully it will work out well for all concerned. I have the latest Kasabian album and love it. I've also heard Tom's material that has been released on KZread (which I think is really impressive) and look forward to his album with great anticipation. I wish them all the very best for the future as I do for you too James. Once again Thank you.

The travelling can really take it out on you. There's the packing and last minute things you need to do that you cannot do while you are away. I used to work away from home a lot as a conference and festival steward. I would travel for two hours or even more to then have to go into a stewards' briefing and from there to sitting in a restaurantfor three or four hours with slow service. I wasn't given downtime unless I stole it for myself by nipping out of briefings and meetings that overran time and skipping dessert in the restaurant. A lot if us were doing that too.

@@kegalormoon I saw them Birmingham last week. I've gotta say I disagree. Serge was front and centre the whole time in his wacky bright clothes, while the rest of the band were really far back in dark clothes, with no lights on them at all. They may aswell have not been there. Very disappointing. That new album aswell...it's so bad. It doesn't compare to even the worst Kasabian album with Tom.

Seen Kasabian a good few times with Tom at the helm. With Serge I will say is that he comes across as a bit of a diva and a poser. Befriending the Might Boosh lookalike and other the top stage presence while performing. I'll never watch them now without Tom as he had the natural edginess and delivery that drove them. He is a natural front man and is not forced. Can't wait to be buying his solo stuff..I hate the MSM with a passion.

That's also weird that the band said they could no longer work with Tom after the allegation. But had to wait until he was proven guilty before they were allowed to make it official? They made up there minds before even finding out if he was guilty, clearly they wanted him out and this was just a convenient excuse.

@@sammcivor1885 loyalty and friendship tossed aside for a quick buck. Keeping the Kasabian name after Tom's exit from the band was disrespectful. That being said, the most important thing here is Tom's health and happiness. Good luck to all parties going forward. One's thing for sure, the musician is not as caring as it would like to be viewed. Same can also be said of the wider British justice system.

Thank you James for an intelligent well researched and objective view of what had happened. I had always felt that Tom had been abandoned by his friends - although with hindsight I can partially understand why. I realised that the press reports of the incident couldn't have been correct when I heard that Tom and Vikki had married. I wish them both all the best. I hope Tom is feeling much better and is taking care of himself. I look forward to hearing his solo projects. I am a huge Kasabian fan but much preferred Tom as the front man. Serge is talented, no doubt, but Tom was made to lead on stage!

Just a quick note on how prosecutions work. It's not the police as such , it's the CPS - Crown Prosecution Service. They go off certain criteria and then decide if it's in the public interest to pursue a prosecution. If any act of violence is committed against a woman - you can bet your house that the CPS will get involved. Regardless of no charges being pressed by the victim...

Very thorough presentation. I appreciate your work, thank you. In relation to your closing comment; I would like to add that the Catholic faith actually teaches us to forgive 70 times 70 which is symbolic of ‘infinite’, meaning always, never withholding. Also, to be forgiven one most seek forgiveness with a firm purpose of amendment. Catholicism tells us that God always forgives. It’s wilful rejection of Gods mercy is what really separates us from Him.

For me it was the perfect excuse for Kasabian to get rid of him and for Serge to become front man. Kasabian just aren't the same with Serge as lead singer. He just hasn't got the voice for it. Whatever happened that night changed Tom and the band's lives. Kasabian were the best band since oasis for me. Saw them loads of times and when they supported OASIS at Wembley they blew them off the stage.

I saw a photo of Rammstein doing the same to a woman, either a female fan, at their after-party or a member of their entourage. It was Paul doing that, and he was topless at the time. The girl was laughing, but she might have been scared. They hint at what they do with women in their videos and then claim it's satire. Like in the Pussy and Mein Land videos. I saw one photo of Till touching the bottom of one woman in underwear while standing behind her. There was another woman fully dressed standing in between them also with her hands on the bottom of the woman in underwear and looking back at Lindemann. The videos Lindemann made for his solo projects show an orgy with Lindemann, his musical partner Peter, a porn actress and Russian women.

Really enjoyed this mate and well done for enlightening people who might have read the Sun and believed the shit they write just for sales and neglecting facts and truths however damning to someone One small ‘query’ is it correct to still call his Mrs a ‘victim’ as you have? I’m not saying it’s wrong that you did cos there’s maybe no other description but as the video itself states, she wasn’t a victim as he wasn’t guilty of the lies the press reported? Anyway, hope Tom gets his head together, he’s a well loved and talented man; I’d be dead by now if I was in his shoes, addicts will spend what they can simple as that; so he must have been using half of Colombia’s monthly exports at one stage! Your oasis video was great too, thanks for the effort keeps it up fella 👍🏻
