    Palin is just so sweet and wonderful.... And one thing I love about Karl is that he talks to EVERYONE in exactly the same way. That is a very rare quality....and admirable in a lot of ways, I think.

  • @jaidev777

    @jaidev777

    Thank you Matt, after reading your comment I looked up that podcast and listened. Very enjoyable and glad to hear Karl just be able to be himself with someone who genuinely just wants to keep empathizing and connecting with him regardless of what Karl talks about. And I'm with you, it is funny listening to Ricky and Steve turn Karl's responses into something to laugh at (at his expense), but simultaneously it's cruel as Karl was not trying to be funny. To me, Karl seems to be an example of people who suffer but are left undetected and unhelped. He strikes me as someone with mental health issues, a history of abuse, and/or maybe was born a particular way, any of which may be connected to each other. And I mean those things in only the most sincere way. It's a shame there's stigma attached to these terms. And yet I'm struck by how incredibly witty, honest and confident he is. I feel it's like he has almost no ego to protect, unlike most people who shape their responses and public image around it. He brings a sort of candid and so,etimes pretty different perspective on things we seem to overlook, his own brand of wisdom.

    Poor Karl. He would not have fared well in US Army basic training in the 1960s. Toilets were arranged in a square U form. One was next, imagine close, VERY close, to the other. You could have reached over and touched the guy sitting, (shitting, can I say that?) next to you. As for squatting, that's how I grew up. Way out in the middle of nowhere before indoor plumbing. We spent our days, as children, exploring/playing in the woods. We didn't run back home to the outhouse, we squatted in the woods. I could have traveled quite well with Palen.

    Probably the most interesting interviews I've ever seen with Carl Pilkington. I love how he doesn't try and change personality or try and act is if he's some sort of super cool Hollywood movie star just because he's on tv. Doesn't matter if he's talking to the queen of England or a homeless man on the street, he would still talk and behave to them in the exact same way no matter how big or small they are. I hate how some people think that Carl Pilkington is an idiot, he's not stupid! He's just got a different way of viewing life, and that to me makes an extraordinary personality. I wish there were more people with a personality like Carl Pilkington. It would make the world just that little bit more interesting.

    Karl seemed enjoy his travels when he wasn't forced to do crazy things and stay in squalor. The idiot Abroad travels were really designed to stress him out needlessly for amusement. What jackass makes someone hike in deep snow without snow shoes but with ski's when they are available? One example of many. Making someone ride 8 hours on a camel is ridiculous when one's body is not adjusted to it or walking for 8 hours at altitude. He was put through the ringer and had very reasonable complaints.
