Karl Jenkins - One World LIVE | UNESCO Concert for Peace 2023 | World Premiere

Музыка

Sir Karl Jenkins, one of the most performed living composers, conducts a massed ensemble of the World Orchestra for Peace, World Choir for Peace, HardChor and Musischen Borg Linz, the Stay at Home Choir, Singers of the Austrian Federal Youth Choirs and from around the world and soloists Ruby Hughes, Kathryn Rudge and Roderick Williams in the World Premiere of his stunning new creation One World. Virtual choirs, connected from more than 40 countries, will join the 400 live artists in the Brucknerhaus.
The work deals with a fragmented world - populist governments, epidemics, climate change, disregard for human rights, war - while at the same time heralding a vision of a peaceful and egalitarian planet. Formally, Jenkins follows the tradition of the mass setting, incorporating elements of different cultures and religions and finding inspiration in texts such as the Bible, the Hindu Gayatri mantra and works by the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, the Lebanese-American author Khalil Gibran and the librettist Carol Barratt.
One World has been commissioned by the World Choir for Peace and the World Orchestra for Peace and is dedicated by the Composer 'to UNESCO - in recognition and appreciation of more than 75 years of advocacy, through culture, for dialogue, peace and reconciliation'. The World Choir for Peace was founded in 2018 on the occasion of a memorial concert to commemorate the end of the First World War 100 years before. The World Orchestra for Peace was founded in 1995 by Sir Georg Solti and Charles Kaye, since when over 750 musicians from more than 70 countries have come together for 30 concerts, to reaffirm 'the unique strength of music as an ambassador for peace'.

The world premiere of Sir Karl Jenkins "ONE WORLD" was an unforgettable experience, and I am still overwhelmed by the music, the people, and all the wonderful encounters in Linz. Many thanks to Sir Karl Jenkins, for his profoundly moving and meaningful music and lyrics. All the musicians were incredibly fantastic, whether as soloists or in the orchestra and choir. The commitment of the Brucknerhaus team was also exceptional. I am grateful and deeply moved and will never forget this once in a lifetime experience. Astrid

You know what? I would like to learn from the ones of you, who took part in a choir - whether on stage, on the balcony or at home - which text you used for the "chaos and bedlam" in 2 - Let's Go! And in which language. I for my part recited the first two verses from Genesis in The Bible, because it seemed very fit ... earth still being a tohuvabohu nefore creation. In ancient Hebrew, as I learnt it once.

But that's only the beginning, the first two movements! Savitur for example is genuine Indian, Unus Mundus has a lot of languages all over the world, Sakura is all Japanese ... It seems that Jenkins, Barratt and the other makers could do it only wrong ... for some commentators it's too little Christian, for others too much!

Sorry friends, if you organize a Concert for PEACE, please ask orchestra director try to switch the rithm and make it sound better than a funeral procession soundtrack, this is so sad, it breaks my heart. I can agree that during Jenkins ages, there were nothing but funerals and sadness but maybe we should hang on things that make life worth living including the classical composition interpretations, let it sound like.. Jenkins in Karajan vision, more energizing than breaking us the hearts of pain and grief, think about it Ok? If it's a concert for peace...put it peace on musical notes then, put it the Ode To Joy prevail, we are lucky survivors, we try to give human existance a better use. ..can we? Just asking 😢😢😢

  • @josefhollenbauer1043

Well ... I've given it consideration. And all I can say to it, is: It's the music that the composer wrote! He knows, how he wants it played and sung, and thus he conducts it that way. If you want Beethoven, that's allright, but then you have to listen to Beethoven and not to Jenkins. It IS a sad and problematic world we are living in after all, and the fast, loud and energetic pieces in Jenkins' music are connected with war and slavery. Renewal comes as a quiet and peaceful spring like in "Sakura". With a summer to follow, but that is not here yet. There are a lot of musical works empressing hope in a livid way. Admitted. This one is not, sorry for that. Perhaps peace is a quiet thing, not a loud one, could it be? Think about it, too ...

You understood nothing. There is not only one religion in the world, and the Gayatri Mantra is not New Age, it's Indian. We must learn to respect one's other religion, even if it's different to ours - even if it's none! Or war and hate will never stop.
