Because I know many of you will say it, here is the response... Yes, I WAS shot at. 1. The shot was MUCH louder than it sounds on camera. 2. The round struck the awning over my head. Though the GoPro mic didn't pick it up (GoPros have famously bad mics) it sounded like someone struck the awning above my head with a hammer. 3. Yes, that IS the sound of a gun going off. Remember, you are hearing GoPro audio processed by my laptop, posted on KZread, played through the speakers on your device. It doesn't sound exactly the same. 4. The area of upper windows the shot came from would draw an almost straight line to me and the section of awning the round hit between us. Someone WAS trying to shoot me and missed a little high. 5. There was one way in and one way out of that base (which was largely surrounded by the river and multiple barbed wire fences). If someone couldn't hit me standing still, I figured they couldn't hit me running 50 feet to the only exit. 6. I'm sure there are some of you with police or military experience who have been shot at. If your experience was different, that's because it was... different. Different time, place, maybe caliber, maybe distance, environmental factors, and you experienced yours in person and only experience a recording of mine. Having your own valid experience in no way discredits mine because they were different. I'll be copying and pasting this as a response where needed.

You don't need to explain yourself. As a war veteran with 20+ years in the Army every situation is different. I'm just glad that person had bad aim and that you are safe. Please watch yourself and I'm glad you are taking extra precautions.

I'm glad you posted this and I'm glad you posted the opening statement/ warning. So many ghost hunters/ adventurer types go to places like this. Ladies and gentleman smack/crack heads, drug dealers, gangs and general no-goods usually conduct their business in places like this!

At a place where I worked security, I was once named, in person, as the target of an intended mass shooting. Guy said it to my face, said he was leaving and coming back with a weapon. We called the cops and they literally blew it off and said they were too busy to respond (this was HPD). I don't like or trust any cops anywhere to do their job. Not a single one.

I knew it was supposedly a "hot spot for violent crime" but I wasn't sure if that was just an exaggeration. Turns out it was pretty accurate!

This reminds me the time I found all those guns and machete when I fished in the water system of Houston... Well, they were stayed at the bottom rather than pointing at me. Stay safe and thank you for all the videos.

Yeah... that's not going to do anything at all. When you Google this place, literally one of the first things that comes up is stuff like "it's a known hotspot for violent crime." Any research on that spot at all, and you know exactly what you're getting into. Explorers need to do their own research and take their own risks.

I do loads of stuff that is far, far too dangerous for children in my videos quite regularly (handling sharks, handling venomous snakes, handling giant rays, narrating a flash flood from a few feet away, setting up cameras to film a mountain lion at night in a video I haven't published yet, and on and on). If I constantly limited my show to what I think children should do, there wouldn't be a show. It's simply not my job to become other people's idea of a child's role model.

I guess that was the Bellechase base, I went to UNO starting in 2006 and the city was pretty rough after Katrina, some pretty heinous murders happened when I first got there. My brother was stationed at the Algiers base, which survived Katrina but is now also closed. It’s called Federal City now.

Wrong base. This is the one on the Bywater. It actually didn't close bc of Katrina. It closed in 2013 I think. It's infamously dangerous bc of the homeless population. Lots of murders there.

I like it, that's the reason. These are my personal favorite films I make. I'm thinking about dedicating an entire channel to it.

I hate to have to say this but I would invest in some personal protection that way your not as suspectable to getting shit or mugged or in general around some bad crap I would get at least a level 3 body armor plate will stop most rounds from firearms up to rifles and a pistol. Could have just been a warning shit from them but I would say they had to be pretty close to hitting you
