I went into this thinking the prosthetic was an arm or a leg, but a freaking EAR?! Lady, your kid's in the hospital, I think you have bigger things to worry about than how the doctor's ears look! And then she orders you to take it off after you JUST told her you need it, because it makes her "uncomfortable"?! Cosplay Story: The mom already did this three times?? It has to be intentional...
@LunaP1
9 ай бұрын
It definitely was. Mom is a controlling psychopath and is probably the reason OP has issues.
first story: 100 bucks says the mother would have been even more 'uncomfortable' with what was under the prosthetic and would have made a huge disgusting scene. I really wish that story had ended with them being put in their place.
Story 3: Handcrafted items for cosplay can take a lot of time to make. They can have lots of details, and that makes them hard to make. So yeah, the OP’s mom is the jerk. Respect people’s stuff.
Story 3: She's purposefully hindering your creativity by destroying your cosplays and props. I'd personally buy a footlocker to store everything in and stash it under my bed and guarantee that only *I* have the key to the padlock.
Story 3; Dude, This is not about the "misplacing" of your cosplay stuff. I have the feeling it is about the mom. Deep down, she hates the fact you cosplay and tries to stop you from cosplaying. If your mom blame the counselor or therapist for your cosplay habit, that could've suspect that the mom's behavior must been responsible for the depression in the first place.

My mom used to be the same way with boundaries, especially with my kids. What finally worked is me putting my foot down and telling her if she doesn't like the rules of my house, then go back to your house. She knew at that point, I was serious.
The mom didn’t misplace the daughter’s cosplay items. She straight threw them out. Used the guise of cleaning her room to get rid of them.
Story 1: That's just ableist! And illogical! How does a prosthetic ear imply that a person is mentally disabled?! That makes no sense?! Story 3: What is it with the mother? She is such an apathetic jerk! Cosplay is a harmless hobby. Story 4: The mother is a narcissist. Story 5: The paternal grandparents must have been really disappointed in their son, the OP's father. The father brought his misery all on himself.

@@gaby_wilson Had nothing to say about that one
I'm a lower leg amputee and this story pisses me off so much, but it doesn't surprise me at all, not long ago I had a situation where I was at a party and a friend of a friend had their kids there (it wasn't a crazy alcohol field party so it wasn't irresponsible having them their before anyone says that) but the kid kept staring at my missing limb and kept asking me about it in the way a kid does without realizing they're doing anything rude, (I'm not mad at the kid at all I understand kids are just curious and don't know) but her mom just kept incouraging her to keep poking and asking me about it, even when I quietly asked her to explain to her kid that maybe this is rude and could be hurting my feelings, and instead she just told me not to tell her how to raise her kid and proceeded to talk shit about me for the rest of the party. This is just the most recent occurrence I've dealt with, you'd be really surprised how many people are just assholes to people with disabilities without even thinking they are wrong at all.
This man is literally "Girl uh-uh you deserve better" incarnate
Story 3: As a cosplayer, that is an outrage. Clearly the OP is NTA, and the mom is throwing away the cosplay items on purpose, not “losing them”, three times in a row. OP should destroy or dispose of things the mom loves and cares about in retaliation, then throw her words back in her face, “Stop going to the past and change your life!”.
@daniellediller5070

Yep 💯% and when she blows up again afterwards then look her square in the eye and say. "It hurts doesn't it? You've done this to me 3 times now if you do this again more of your (insert precious item here,) will get lost."
@-HarmonyPlayz-

Honestly, I understand completely! I work hard on my cosplay items and I would absolutely freak if my mom did that!
The make-up one: It's very hard to set good boundaries when you're dealing with a narcissist, even a borderline narcissist. My grandmother was like OPs mother, if my family didn't do what she wanted us to do she'd berate my dad the next day bc she saw herself as the matriarch of the family. My family didn't see her that way and growing up, I couldn't make any healthy boundaries. One of the best ways to help make a boundary is to go LC or NC with the mom if she starts throwing a tantrum about not having special effects make-up done.
@DoctorOaks
9 ай бұрын
The hardest thing about setting boundaries with narcissists is to stop letting others convince you that your boundaries are unreasonable. I say people in general, because narcissists are usually very good at convincing people to side with them. So telling 1 no can lead to multiple people trying to convince you that you're being unreasonable. When it happens enough times you just get used to letting that person continuously trample your boundaries, and that is NOT healthy.
Story 1: The Karen and Kevin are just Grade A jerks here. If i were the OP, i would've called security on them and got them removed from the room. The comments and questions were just totally uncalled for. Story 2: OP is not a jerk at all here. You really cannot control the side-effects of medications and some of them really hit you hard and out of nowhere. I think a simple explaination of the meds and side-effects to Sarah may be needed here, but if that doesnt work, then i say both dont fret over it and Sarah needs to mellow out. Story 3: Is it "misplaced" or "discarded"? I think the word we are looking for is "discarded". While i think maybe the OP should've had a bit of a cleaner room, the OP is 100% not the jerk, and the mom is 100% the jerk. It really seems like the mom was intentionally going through the OP's belongings to try and get rid of those items. OP really needs to secure them better in the future, and the mom really needs to bug off. Story 4: I've said this before, and i'll say it again; If you dont get paid properly, then don't do the job! Period! Only making $30 in tips when you normally charge $80/hour is an absolute joke and the mom is just clearly taking advantage of the OP. I don't blame the OP for not doing it.... i know i wouldn't either. Also, anyone who responds to a text or email or something with just "K" is a big jerk. Story 5: I really do hope that the dad and stepmother become homeless. They 100% deserve it. They were terrible to not only the OP but also the grandparents. Also, i sling mud at the step-siblings too... why dont they give up parts of their houses to home the dad and stepmother... the OP is under zero obligations to help them out,doesn't matter who got the house in the end. The OP deserves the house, the dad doesn't deserve a cardboard box.
I'm a cosplayer, and story 3 broke me. Even accidental damage to my costumes have upset me, so I can't imagine how someone deliberately throwing them away would hurt.

For the cosplay story, the solution is simple. 1) Get a lock for your room and 2) Clean your own room. If your old enough to make a cosplay costume, you're old enough to have privacy and cleanup after yourself.

Yeah but, if the mother is set in her ways on how she's going to ”help". It is doubtful that she's capable of listening to her kid much less the counselors. So a lock and saying I will clean my own room will not work.

Story 3: Good gods I feel OP's pain here. Even if you manage to make your stuff on cheap, no cosplay, larp, re-enactment, or fursuit build is cheap to make. They take a lot of time and energy, you pour your heart and soul into the things you make, especially for yourself. I used to re-enact and I made my whole soft kit as well as my shield and I damn near nearly cried when, after nearly 5 years, my shield broke. It was in combat and looked so damn awesome, the crowd went wild and cheered for me, and it was such a good end for my shield. And I still mourned it. Poor OP doesn't even get something awesome like that for their cosplay stuff and I feel their pain so much
I will say cosplay can be very expensive, I have friends who have spend 500.00 to 1,000. My advice is to get is to get a lock for your room or a lock box.

So because someone has a prosthetic, they're automatically stupid?
I think I would have reported them to the hospital and asked for their address to send a letter of complaint via a lawyer.
Story 3: Nobody can convince me that the OP's mom didn't do that on purpose.
That last story made my stomach churn! The step mom and the dad were horrid!!!! And especially cause the dad married the woman he was having an AFFAIR WITH! I want to throw up😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I wouldn’t be going to that wedding then. I have colitis and I cannot control when it happens.
*Story 1:* It's crazy how some people can be towards something that looks strange. It's one thing to be curious about a certain prosthetic, how you came to need it. But to *demand* that they remove it, saying that it's *"inappropriate",* what's so inappropriate about a prosthetic ear?
4:03 the second I heard the title I literally thought this was a long lost sister of the mom who pooped at the wedding
#2 cosplay is extremely expensive and to have a piece That’s so memorable as a blue brooch and for that to just go missing and the Mom not know where that is that’s incredibly insensitive I don’t do much cosplay myself because I don’t have the funds for it but I have mad respect for people who do cosplay because it’s not cheap
I will be completely honest, I didn't even know that prosthetic ears were a thing

Per the cosplay mother story, that woman is a complete monster/narcasisst, when you get the chance to leave her behind DO IT monsters like that don't deserve the breaths they breath
Story 3 is so awful- I bet you anything the mom doesn't like your hobby because it actually makes you happy and she can't stand that
1st story, I honestly would've been like "Oh! Do you want to do this? Since I'm so unqualified, you'd probably know better right? Who cares if I went to medical school for 4 years? That doesn't matter, you know better! Since I'm such a bad person you do it!" Then I would've stomped out, informed the nurse on what happened and tell her to get someone else to do the EGI
I remember that lady in the thumbnail.... I also remember she made homemade videos of herself ft a pillow.
A little confused at the last story. If the dad is retired military (assuming it's the USA), he should at least be receiving a pension.
You need to get a box with a lock
Story 1: talk about extraordinary customer service
It's funny he says "no one plans to come to a wedding to have an accident" yet they have a story on their channel where a spouses mother came to the wedding, dressed in white, then was forced to change, continued to make a scene, was kicked out, and finally came back super drunk and shit herself on purpose.... So yeah they definitely know of someone who planned to come to a wedding to have an "accident."
It's inappropriate to where prosthetics in a hospital? Where do you think they got the prosthetic; the black market?
Storie #3 makes me wanna explode 😡😡😡
If you are a high school student, clean your own room.
About the mother the gets mad at her offspring for not doing her makeup. My mother used to have a saying, she could get glad again in the same clothes that she got mad in.
To solve the cosplay one: get a gun safe and store everything in there
I felt op s mom was selling the cosplays items.
Story 2: Before I even soil myself, I'll go to the bathroom regardless of the pain. If I do soil myself, I'll do the same thing but this time, put another set of extra pants.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of looking at prosthetics, but I wouldn't demand someone take it off. That's literally the same as taking someones wheelchair away and saying "walk."
I'm sorry, but Story 2's "Number Three" to me(and from what I looked up) means something VERY different and very NSFW
Or you could legally leave at 16 cuz there's no one stopping you
That's offensive to me too, because I have a disability and for people like to say that Kind of stuff that makes me sick to my stomach.
The prosthetic ear. Chances are the mother had no idea that the ear is stuck on with some special glue which is hard to get off. I've never heard of such a thing until this story. She probably thought he could just lift if off and put it in his pocket or something. And I don't think it's at all unreasonable for the parents to question whether OP was fully qualified to conduct medical procedures if they have a disability of any kind. The average person has no idea what all is involved in many medical procedures, or whether any certain disabilities might affect their ability to accurately conduct them. I don't think it's unreasonable for a parent to question the qualifications of any person testing or treating their child, with or without a disability.
