This is Dusty Springfield. She was considered a singer's singer - a great voice- and she was Karen Carpenter's favorite. When Richard was recording a solo album in 1987, he asked Dusty to sing the vocals on this track - not as a tribute to Karen, but because Dusty was Karen's idol. Richard plays the piano and with Dusty's voice, the result is hauntingly beautiful. Dusty died in 1999.

Pure loveliness - and it made sense that Richard teamed up with Dusty on this track - she is, after all, second to Karen. R.I.P. to the two greatest female singers ever to grace this earth.

As great and clear in her voice as KAREN was, DUSTY brings this song home closer. It is a tribute to both of them. Two beautiful voices are now still and silent only to be brought alive in past recordings. They left way too early.

This is one of my favorite Dusty Springfield songs. If you listen closely to the last note of this song, you would swear you can hear Karen's voice as it fades away. I wonder if Richard "ghosted" (actual term for fading in) that note in. This song peaked at #12 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Just think... Karen would have been 50 this year. All the great music she could still be making for us today... it really hurts that she's gone, even over 27 years after the fact. Thank you for the music, Karen and Richard; because of both of you, MY life will never be the same. (By the way, I am 30 and was not yet three years old when Karen died.)

I remember this song getting some Adult Contemporary airplay when it was first released but it quickly vanished afterward, which is a shame, as it is a beautiful song. Am I the only one who gets a little teary-eyed watching the footage of Karen performing in front of the "sunny" backdrop at the lyric "And as I watch you framed in sunlight, in a sky of blue"? Too bad Karen and Dusty never got a chance to duet... that would have been musical heaven.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Karen! Here is an MTV of Dusty Springfield's tribute to her friend, Karen. vimeo.com/270761293 I still remember to this very day where I was when I saw the news of Karen's death. I was walking along Taft Avenue doing a survey of the Malate area for my college thesis project. The evening paper was on the sidewalk and I saw Karen's picture and news of her sudden death. I broke into tears and couldn't believe it was true. I am certain she is in heaven now and has fulfilled her mission on earth.

Check Clair Dela Fuente & Richard, singing this song. He's aged gracefully. He said he wrote it for Dusty Springfield, four years after Karen died. I used to play this song all the time when I was young(er). Its good to see someone younger has carried on the songs of the Carpenters, especially this hit song. Any reactions?
