When I was a teenager in the 1960s, the kids I babysat would play with toys in front of the tv until the commercials came on. Then they stopped and watched intently, mesmerized. We all (me and them) knew all the jingles and could sing along... Then in my early 20s, I was shopping at one of the chain discount stores when suddenly a young toddler sitting in a cart burst out loudly with a perfect imitation of a particular disposable diaper commercial: “America, we’re out to change your diaper!” The mom was mortified, but I was seriously impressed. Sad to hear that the current crops of kiddos is missing out on this important part of American culture.

I long for the days of Johnny Carson. Carson was charming and funny. Neither political party was extreme. I still don’t really know who he would have voted for. Because both parties were options for reasonable people. I love Kimmel because he is a funny, likable, reasonable guy.
