The Selden dunk against Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament was the nastiest play of the Bill Self Era

1:12 Throwing an oop on the break down by 3 with a minute left and your season on the line... I loved the KU teams that had that swagger and confidence.

I really like watching the Tyrell Reed hitting that three at Misery clip. Especially when you can see him turn to the student section and yell at them.

I wasn't lucky enough to be in AFH, but I live in Iowa and couldn't watch the game on my TV, so I went to a sports bar. Which of course was packed with ISU fans. I had a Kansas shirt on and there was playful trash talk between everyone in the bar and myself. When the game was getting close to being over I payed my tab and stood up to put my jacket on. Everyone in the place started on me about "Haha! Leaving early because they're going to lose." But I stayed and about 30 seconds later McLemore banks in that 3 and everyone in the place groans except for me "BOOM! BABY!" was my reaction. Then OT played out and I was the happiest person in the room. That and the bartender, he got an extra dollar in his tip that night after the win.

@@stonecoldku4161 It wasn't just that 3. Game was over as I remember. ISU was up like 7-8pts under 1min I think. I was there at AFH with my ex. There was a cool ISU couple next us. So we were talking basketball whole game. But I remember their excitement near end. Then his face after we won. Its like his "inner d-bag Cyclone fans" self was wanting come out, but he kept quiet. Bet he bitched whole way home about "refs "

Think it was ESPN Big Monday too.. I've been prob 30 games at AFH since 1991. But I got those tickets as a Xmas gift fr my brother. Ended up being prob top20 most epic games played @AFH. I was at another top20 game @AFH. It was February 2006. Vs Oklahoma. We were down 17pts in 2ndHalf. Came back won with freshman Wright, Rush & Chalmers. I should been at that 2012 final game vs Missouri. My best friend is Missouri fan, most my friends are. So I got his house and plan was to head down buy scalper tix. We drank too much and ended up watching it at his place. Great game. I won $20 off him and brand new PJ20 dvd. 2011-12 season was fun. Greatest day of 2012 Tournament, I had tickets see Janes Addiction in Kansas City. So me and friend drank and watched #15Norfolk St upset #2Mizz at bar of venue. It was great. KU played their opening rd game vs Detroit while I was at show. I kept score watching. Then after show, went back bar watched final 3mins of #15Lehigh beat #2Duke. Fantastic day......

@@jasonpeters9865 I'm positive it wasn't on ESPN standard network because I would've been able to watch it at home then. ESPNU I think it was on and for some reason I think it was on a Wednesday night. I've been to only a handful of games. Went to the West Virginia game last year and the Oklahoma game the year before that. Both Xmas gifts. Went to see them in Des Moines when they were here for NCAA tournament a few years back. Now all I have left on my bucket list is to go to the Big 12 tournament and a Final Four.

Watching this reminds me of how good Ben Mclemore was supposed to be and how bad he actually turned out. And the 3 to turn out so far have really only been Embiid, Wiggins, and Graham. Shows you that Self is actually able to get the best out of his players

There are some other Bill Self coached Jayhawks that have had solid or successful NBA careers. Mario Chalmers two NBA championships with the Heat, Brandon Rush has a NBA Championship with the Warriors, Sasha Kaun got a championship in Cleveland (Lebron has never won a NBA Championship unless a Jayhawk was on the team), Wayne Simien NBA title with the Heat, Morris twins have had solid careers thus far. Are these guys All-Stars, no, but there are All-Stars without rings.

@@stonecoldku4161 3 of the 4 guys you named contributed zero to their championship teams. Judging players nba careers by how many rings they got is super dumb. Kaun and Simien were in the nba for 2 years their nba careers were not successful. Im in no way saying self is bad at developing nba talent but using those guys as examples is pretty dumb.

  • @stonecoldku4161

@@benspt3636 In games they didn't contribute much but being on the team and contributing to making the team better in practice is a bigger deal than people make it out to be. Lebron James during the championship celebration specifically mentioned Kaun for helping the team despite not playing much. To be a member of the best NBA team regardless of playing time is a pretty big deal and shouldn't be taken for granted. Hell, Kaun would've been in the NBA longer, but he wanted to move back to his home country of Russia (where he helped that national team win a bronze medal) and then he moved back to the US, Cleveland had his draft rights, because they had drafted him out of college. But he had to tryout to get on that team and practiced showed them enough for the team to sign him, so they figured he would contribute something. Is Bill Russel a better player than Michael Jordan because he has more rings? No, but being a good enough player to be wanted by the best team in the world regardless of how many minutes you see, means that you're still a very good and solid player. I think that's the point I was trying to make.

Bill Self is a very good basketball coach he just needs his team to get past the hump and we will win other national title.. that's where I would criticize bill self he kinda chokes when it comes to national titles. He did win one in 07-08 but that was a long time ago.. Kansas does have 5 national titles that's the same amount as duke I know that is a lot but you know when your sports fan you want more no matter how successful your team has been.. rather if you have the most or least National Titles it's never enough.. I think firing bill self would be a huge mistake though he's a very good coach he just needs to get his team past the hump..

To be clear. University of Kansas did not pay for a single player. The player's families were paid by representatives from Adidas, without the knowledge of Kansas or the coaching staff. The fact that some players were paid by reps from Adidas was intentionally kept from Bill Self. This was according to sworn testimony by the man who paid the player's families. This testimony had to be confirmed by the FBI's investigation otherwise they would've never gone to trial with it. And it would've been in the man's best interest to not lie, because he was already facing fraud charges and was helping the FBI in their investigation for leniency on his sentence. If he lied to the FBI and they found out about it, not only would the leniency go away, but they would probably ask the judge for the maximum sentence on his already existing charges, but add to his charges of interfering with a Federal Investigation and/or perjury if his testimony made it to court.
