Heard this ghazal after some two decades….and realized where have I been lost! There will never be another Mehdi Hassan, I’m fortunate to have listened to him in one live performance during my college days in Chandigarh, that was one unforgettable evening!!

@@khalidansari6920 Jagjit ji was good, no doubt but Ustad Mehdi Hassan Khan Sahab was his guru and ofc the Shahenshah-e-ghazal.

The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had made us feel a divine bonding through his divine creations and their rendition in his magical voice and inimitable style of gayiki ! Oh ! what a feeling it used to be, while this great Wizard Of Music was performing live ! It might be just divine and can't be expressed in words ! As a result, the listeners got very highly blessed ! --- Amarendra Borah, Former Commissioner and Secretary, Finance Department, Govt Of Assam (India).

What a masterpiece! What a legend! No one, and I mean no one, can come even close to the perfection of Mehdi Hassan in this ghazal. Absolute control, absolutely flawless delivery, such delicate but true command and fine attention to detail. Such perfection is no where to be found now a days. He was indeed the best, a master performer, and the one and only ghazal king. This is one of Mehdi Hassan's best. Wow!

The Great Lata Ji once commented about Mehdi Sahab's singing in words - possibly never used about human singing before, and that coming from no less a worldly legend herself, the ever green and ever great Lata Ji makes it ever more supremely elevated and elated commendation: “Unke [Mehdi Sahab] galay mein bhagwan bolta hai” {Trans: 'God speaks in the voice of Mehdi Hassan'}. Listening to this very ghazal, and numerous more, sung in such soulful feel, artistry, and vocals truly allows one to understand the depth of justice done by Lata Ji's such deep appreciation of Mehdi Sahab's singing. God bless them both eternally in the Hereafter...

This ghazal is one of his best ghazals, and deserves more than million views.

Gazal aur kalakar ki izzat aapki bhavna mein dikhai deti hai.

The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had a rare ability to catch the imagination of the listeners while performing and get them captivated instantly through his magical voice and inimitable style of gayiki ! It was as if the great Khan Saab used to cast a web around the listener and it's, indeed, very difficult to come of that web once someone is exposed to his gayiki ! Such was the wizardry of the great wizard of music ! Personally speaking, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had cast such a spell on me that it will be difficult to come out of it during this lifetime ! He had given ghazal gayiki a pedestal which will be difficult to surpass! There will never be another Mehdi Hassan ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab has made me understand the true meaning of love and its universal appeal and has made me view this World and the Humankind in an altogether different perspective -- full of hopes and aspirations ! Listening to the divine voice of the great Khan Saab on daily basis has been infusing a new lease of life and the will to live in me every day in and day out ! The feeling thereof is divine and can't be expressed in words ! It has raised my spiritual level by several notches up ! I will remain ever grateful to the great Mehdi Hassan Saab for this peerless gift ! What a rendition, what a composition and what ease of presentation..the one and only Mehdi Hasan!

There was something divine in the singing style of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab which casts a spell on the listeners instantly and get them captivated ! Is there any one -- living or dead -- to match his caliber and brilliance ! Selection of the right kalam of the right shayar for his ghazals and the GOD-GIFTED ability to tune it into the appropriate raga had made the great Khan Saab's gayiki so soulful, soothing, lively and worth - listening again and again without getting bored ! The great Meer Tak-E-Meer Saab, Mirza Ghalib Saab, Bahadur Shah Zafar Saab, Iqbal Saab, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Saab, Qatil Shifai Saab, Ahmed Faraz Saab, and Farhat Shehzad Saab, to name a few, were amongst his most favourite poets ! Here, in this ghazal ( Kaise Chupaon Raaj-e-gham), with lyrics by Hasarat Mohani Saab. the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had very aptly proved it beyond reasonable doubt! What a soulful composition it was! He had given Ghazal Gayiki a pedestal which will be difficult to surpass ! Hariharan Saab has a style of gayiki, which is so unique to him ! He has clarity, quality, depth, and wide range in his voice, which is eminently suitable for ghazal gayiki ! What is even more gratifying to note is that Hariharan Saab has been striving hard to carry forward the rich legacy left behind by the great Mehdi Hassan Saab ! After the emergence of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab, perhaps, the emergence of Hariharan Saab is the next best thing to happen on the Ghazal Horizon Of India !

This is what connoisseurs of music use to call brilliant and matchless singing style ! In this ghazal, it was as if the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had raised the level of ghazal gayiki to an epic proportion by performing it with his heart out ! Very often, I run short of vocabulary to describe this enormous talent ! The great Khan Saab was a phenomenal singer and infact, he himself a phenomenon ! He was just irresistible, as an exponent of ghazal gayiki !

The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had originally hailed from a small hamlet called ' 'Luna' in the district of ' Jhunjhunu' of the state of Rajasthan (India) wherein sixteen generations of his family lived ! After partition of the country, the great Khan Saab had migrated to Pakistan in 1947, along with his parents, wherein he stayed until his sad demise in 2012 !
