Here in this ghazal, " Jab Teri Zulfon Ki Baat Chali", the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was at his romantic best! What makes the great Khan Saab so special was the fact that he had the uncanny ability of rendering the tragic and romantic nuances of a Urdo couplet with equal proficiency and could thereby cast a lasting impact on the heart of the discerning listener ! The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had a good command on deft handling of ragas and their appropriate application in his divine creations without ever losing his absolute control over Lafz Sur Taal and Loy! The great Khan Saab had given the ghazal gayiki a pedestal which will be difficult to surpass! Perhaps, such a wonderful singer will ever be born in this world again! What a terrible loss it was to the World Of Classical Music in general and Ghazal Gayiki in particular! -- Amarendra Borah, Former Commissioner and Secretary, Finance Department, Govt Of Assam (India).
