Do you guys find this sort of video interesting? Ngl it took forever but I get asked daily now is *"insert random idol"* is singing live for all these rando performances and it's a lot. Maybe this can answer those questions all at once for each month. Korean music shows are the OG of lives so they are the control group. As not everyone gets to be on "Sketchbook", "Dingo", "Now", "Radio", "It's Live" etc. If you're curious about those, yes it's *probably* live, with few exceptions. Some autotuned more than others. For the sake of this video I counted anything autotuned or with backtrack as technically live.

Thank you for the effort! This doesn't need to happen, but if the live stages could be linked below, I think it would help others differentiate what is/isn't pre-recorded, while watching the entire stage itself. If I wanted to watch a live stage again, I'd always have to remember what they wore based on the thumbnail. But no pressure! This must've taken awhile, so thanks again queen

Jinjin & Rocky,Swan & Kyuhyun KINGS & QUEENS,special honors to Onewe,Alexa,Wooah,Wheein & Onlyonoff...now biggest applause to u,this is SO much work but this format is a top tier one & a fantastic idea to finally open ppl's eyes Like others said it'd be clever to link live stages only in d description to encourage ppl to check & increase d engagement in those specific stages,we are still customers,if more of us will pile up,share & praise those maybe step by step we'll increase d demand for live stages,also ngl nowdays i only watch music show stages for outfits bc i now i'll hardly stamble upon a live stage,w this i(we all)will have a reference of stages to check 1st & foremost..again this a massive work but many of us will be thrilled & really thankful if u continue to do this fantastic work! (p.s still sad half of d lives are w backtracks & while choreo heavy stages definitely need a small amount of it to breath & function,having capable vocalists try to overpower their tracks results in pretty messy,ear piercing,sometimes strain filled chaotic multi sounds which i,m not a fan of either)

Actually proud of Jinjin and Rocky. They were super energetic and loud on stages with live singing. They worked really hard for their subunit. Sad they didn't get any music show wins.

i have a question about bands: are their instruments “lipsyncing” as well? or are they played live while the artist lipsyncs?

Most bands are prideful about playing so they often play live. BUT they have pretended before or been caught miming. Usually the only way to catch them is to actually know the specific instrument and see if they're playing correctly. AOA Moya has played guitars live before, but they had a few fake lives on Inkigayo where they forgot to use their fingers on the neck of the guitar and were just holding it. Another instance was Tiffany's pre-recorded "Once in a lifetime stage" where Seohyun pretended to play the piano. She can play in real life, but it was mimed.

From what I heard frustrated band members say, it sounds like often the shows can't be bothered to set up the sound for all the instruments and make them pretend over backtrack.

music shows usually refuse to let bands play live - mostly for insurance purposes. music shows don’t want to pay the costs for instruments getting damaged on set. it also takes a long time to set up equipment and test the audio, including balancing the mixing of the instruments and vocals. music shows go through a lot of different artists per show so they don’t put the time into letting bands play live. i hope this helps!!

Actual bands play live - for Onewe at least - but the instruments are not connected (so you would only hear the studio recorded backtrack and not the live instrument) and that's because Music shows will not allow them to play live. Harin (Onewe's drummer) said they even asked him to stop playing live because the sound of his live playing was caught by Yonghoon's (vocal) microphone and they didn't want that, so he had to switch his sticks for rods that would sound lighter on the drums.

For me "live / backtrack " doesn't count as LIVE coz the backtrack sound louder than their voices but is your channel ✋🏻😎. Fun fact I don't know who these kpop groups are but I love you channel that's why I'm here. 💕💕💕

I would like to know if there are preferences with different music shows. Are some more prone to have live vocals (+ backing tracks) and some that only use lip sync? I really like these kind of videos, so I hope there will be another one for February stages :)

Yes there is a common pattern but there are always exceptions. Inkigayo, The Show and M Countdown are almost always lip-sync. M Countdown has just recently started making one of a kind pre-recorded tracks with autotune for their stages that sound almost live I think to save their reputation as of late (M Countdown is considered the prestigious one and most groups only get 1-2 stages with them). Show Champion, Ariang and Music Bank are 50/50. The groups most likely get to chose for those.

Some comments here are saying they're disappointed with so and so for not singing live, but you also need to take into account the difficulty of the choreo. Agree if it's a ballad there's no point but I won't blame Hyolyn for not singing live with THESE moves omg? And it's not like there's anything to doubt about her vocals, everyone already knows she's one of the best vocalist out there

I understand that kpop dance choreography are intense but not singing live is really displeasing. One of my favorite group is Twice but the only two with vocal confidants are Jihyo and Nayeon.

i enjoyed this video although i do believe some of these might be inaccurate (i can only specifically rep momoland since they're the group here i keep up with - you missed a music bank stage 220121 where they sung noticeably live!, and their other music bank stage was also live, 210114) but nonetheless, it really highlights how far too many groups and soloists have to rely on lip sync and backtrack 😊 edit: and i can't complain since it is the company's decision if they do but it's just super annoying because i think people would want them to actually sing and stuff rather than.. mouth the words?

some of the clips which you marked as lipsync actually live+background vocals.. but the background vocals is much louder than the live vocals, which makes it kinda hard to hear.. :" well i hope i hear all those stage right :D

Can you please make a video on the process of how you identify whether it's a live performance or not? I have watched your other videos too but please do a detailed video on kpop music show performances (in which idols are dancing and are wearing mic+ear piece for example Inkigayo, The Show, Music Core, Music Bank etc) and how to tell if they are live or not. P.S. I am greatly inspired by the topic of your videos.

Oh man I hoped Onewe was able to sing live more. Yonghoon has great vocal and Dongmyeong is pretty good too Edits: well after watching the whole video, sadly 50% is considered the good amount of live vocal haizz. Thanks for your time and tremendous effort in collecting and editing for this vid.

I still dont understand how fans still think their idols are singing live when its too perfect🥲🥲 you cant even heard the sound bouncing which normally heard when you sing with a mic..... just because you can heard the breath or some words missed, doesnt mean live.. not that I hate them lipsyncing...

This might sound stupid but can I ask what you did if there were stages that had some members lip-sync and others sing live (if there were any)? Or stages where soloists sang and lip-synced? I just don't want the wrong expectations to be going out, you know, expecting a fully live stage and not getting but also I'm interested in your process, so yeah, badly worded comment but I appreciate your work and was wondering if you could answer this query of mine lol (Basically what percentage of live singing fits your classification of live for this video? Basically at least half of the members need to be live in order to count. (which is still a bit generous I think considering most groups only have 2-4 lines per member and the chorus is almost always backtrack) For example if say GI-dle has a performance and only Soyeon's mic is on it's not live. Especially when it comes to rappers (unless the whole group are rappers and there's only 1 vocalist). Idols need to actually be singing the song for it to count, chanting or screaming doesn't.

I remember back then.. I used Key, Jessica, Nicole, Kyuhyun, Hyungjun, JunK, and Hyunseung voice to tell either they lypsinc or not because they gave unique vocals you can tell right away when they just lypsincing...

I'm pretty sure kepler had two live+backtrack stages

Don't wanna be that person but I'm a bit confused with Moonbyul's parts. I think the part you showed were ones where she didn't sing yeah and the backtrack supported her instead, but if you watch the whole performance, I believe you can notice she's clearly singing live because her voice overshadows the backtrack often or you can heard double voices and such, especially in the rap parts. But Idk how you judge it and I feel like it's just cherry-picked parts because the entire stage wasn't lip syncing at all.

Please do february one too including Nmixx.

In defense of Fromis_9 they gave us live encore falsetto. Amd honestly a pretty good encore. You can hear Hayoungs voice shake when she does her falsetto.

For me, it is okay, live + backtrack. Sometimes, we can hear layer. it's okay. We still can hear their real voice. I didn't count it as lipsync. But lipsync for a full song, is a BIG NO. In the past, the singer didn't have to dance when it come to their part. But now, the singer have to dance as hard as others. Wth? That is so inhuman. At first, pre recorded was a recorded performance. But they still perform live. No correction. But it look like the meaning of pre recorded has change. But anyway, i still love kpop until now.

Can I disagree? because I am think blessed cursed had playback plus live voclas almost in all stages, in some of them you can hear some agitated voices and in different tone

Of course Super Junior main vocalist BalladKyu (Kyuhyun) sings live heh. Would be pretty embarrassing lip syncing to a ballad. Wonder how this works out if some members lip sync and others don’t in a group performance

Yeah I just watched a couple music show performances recently and they were sounding kinda samey :/ I’m not super good at telling lip syncing for ballads so I’m not 100% certain but I do have sinking feeling it was the case? Which is wild because SJ has an amazing vocal line that knows how to sing live really well. I could also buy that KRY sang live but the rest lip synced? I dunno. Would be happy to be corrected though.

You solved a long-held confusion in me. I used to believe that all of these kpop music show performances are live. I used to think that these idols are so perfect and well-trained that they can dance so hard and sing accurately at the same time. Now I see the bigger picture. I hate how these companies (/idols) deceive fans. Like literally, if you are not singing live then why are you wearing an ear piece and mic. It pisses me off. And one thing that I hate even more is how fans actually believe that idols are singing live when they are not.

The ear piece helps you know when to sing a long, hear stage directions etc. It’s not just for hearing your own voice. ;)

usually pentagon have their mic on at least, but on this comeback i don´t know why they lip sync, maybe the choreo but i did noticed they didn´t sing like they normally do.

Honestly it's too early to tell. They could have a few amazing vocals like Aespa but we never get to hear. It depends on how JYP markets them. JYP Pushes live stages the most but it depends on the groups. Itzy & Stray Kids sing more often because it's part of their branding (more individualistic image). Where Twice & Got7 Lip sing 99% of the time because it's irrelevant to their brand or concepts.
