So does your car, but if you drive without one then there is a problem. You need a licence to watch BBC or live TV from any broadcaster. So to counter that and not have a licence, just watch catchup tv as long as it is not iplayer. Simple. Coming up with that stupid phrase is pointless.

Good one , my TV works well to without one! 22 year's and probably 6 TVs later without a licence , like Michel Jackson says" it doesn't matter if it's black or white" or coloured your TV doesn't need a licence to watch a TV at night!

He is not really a scumbag, he is just trying to earn a living, he doesn't even work for the BBC, his company is contracted by the BBC. All you have to do is just say no thank you and close the door. No need for stupidity.

@cult Watch It's definite there's a huge number of people, who don't get involved in this argument because it's, the easy thing to do Have you heard of on-demand, people who don't watch TV don't have to worry about TV advertising, the reason for stopping TV licence is BBC spend lots of money on technology that no longer needs to exist, I unlike a lot of people that don't watch TV still use internet. Also it stops other who may want to watch live TV other than the BBC. All the TV transmission by TV mast should end it's a huge waste of resources all send up to the satellites, job done terrestrial broadcast television is totally obsolete BBC commercial or bust, no tax or licence fee money should go to the BBC and the licence.

Are you sending broadcast signals into my home without my permission? Put the BBC on notice to cease and desist from beaming their electro-magnetic radiation waves into your home. Tell them, in order to monitor compliance you will set up a wave monitor (TV) in your home and record (DVD/VCR) any further incursion for use in a court of law.

That would require an act of parliament. Chances are your MP supports the licence fee and the beeb in general. I know the next time a politician comes looking for my vote I will be asking them if they are and will be supporting the undemocratic way in which the tv licence is imposed on his or her constituents.

Hey Guys I’ve not had a TV licence for 10 years..saved me a bucket! they never called to see me once thank god..because I wouldn’t let them in if they did. I have a TV set on which I watched DVDs and I would listen to the dreadful radio four just to get a bit of bias now and again LOL I was a full-time teacher as you can see and I didn’t have any time to look at live television and it was a load of shit in any case and it still is! I can tell you for a fact that none of my students 16 to 18-year-olds watch live television they haven’t got any time for it either..and they hate it!

It doesn't matter if you watch live BBC TV all day, they are the ones sending it into your house without permission. They are not due any money, regardless, just evict them for trespass. The worms who call are only after easy money: say no and they move on, they can't do anything else.

I live on my own, apart from my hamster, so there is no way I would answer the door at that time of night, unless I was expecting a friend or family member.

You don't need a license just if you're 'able to' receive TV as it's broadcast; what counts is if you make use of it or not; he either doesn't understand that or just tries to get his foot in with misinformation to get paid after making somebody pay.

The thing I don't get is why do they need your name when the licence covers the address??? It's the address that's licenced not the individuals. As stated on their email confirmation, "Don't risk your address becoming unlicensed - please renew today"

....but your ADDRESS won't pay a Court Infringement FINE...your STRAWMAN (your name in all caps as in your Berth (Bill Of Lading) Certificate)...would..sadly...be FORCED to...IMHO. Get as well acquainted with Common Law as you can...it 'trumps' the UCC (Universal Commercial Code) for the mere COMMERCIAL (think Economic) STATUTE that it is....not a L-A-W!! @@klausgh Only the address needs a licence, but they need to go fishing for more details if they want to prosecute. When my father died, he had only just paid the tvl fee in full, leaving 11 months before the next payment was due. Despite it being confirmed by phone calls to TVL that the address was licenced, the threatening letters started arriving just weeks later. They were more concerned about where the next payment was coming from, it seems.

Lol like it, but even better just dont answer the door.

I don’t have to write to the Army to tell them why I have no license to transmit on restricted military wavelengths. I don’t have to write to the Home Office to tell them why I have no license to import dangerous animals. I don’t have to write to the Department of Transport to tell them why I have no licence to drive HGV vehicles. I have never had a TV license either. The reason is obvious....it’s because I don’t do those things.

It's not just BBC you can't watch without a licence. Even the Sky channels require that you have a licence, despite you already paying them a subscription fee. You can't even watch QVC on freeview without a licence.
