I meant to say that Hadley Baxter was an actress, not pilot. She just played one in a biopic 😉

Part of what I love about your channel is how you talk about books I'd rarely pick up on my own (I'm more into SFF than literary fic) but you're so enthusiastic I end up wanting to read all of them! Your videos are always a bright spot in my day.

Ooh you have me so excited for Great Circle. I just have that feeling I'm going to love so naturally it's been languishing on my shelves instead.

Wow! Amazing wrap up! It's the diversity for me. I love how you can intelligently talk about politics, drag queens and anthropology in the same video. You're also so engaging and charming to watch! You made me want to read George Orwell and I didn't think that was possible. Your enthusiasm and descriptions of these books are infectious and clearly heartfelt. I want to read them all now. lol Great job with this and I hope you continue to have another great reading month in August! Thanks for the excellent content!

Awesome wrap up with diverse range of great books. An anthropology book that deals alot with the Human Brain, Culture, Art and Humanity and its published in 2015, really recommend it!

George Orwell was a believer in socialism, but he became disenchanted with it in later life, because he witnessed corruption within the movement. A lot of his work is critiquing this corruption and not necessarily the ideology itself, which he himself believed in. :)

"Where do you think our fascination with bears comes from?!" 😂💕 Glad you're eager to read more from Shafak. I really liked "Three Daughters of Eve" and "10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World" as well. Alaska always seems so fair minded when giving opinions on people like Sharon and Ru which makes me believe her more. Ozeki's book sounds like such a good experiment and the essays in Islamic Masculinities sound really interesting. I also love how nonfiction collections like that can tip you off to other authors/books you want to read. So keen to hear what you think of Bulawayo's Glory now that you've read Animal Farm. Thanks for all your thoughts on these!

I'm proud of myself for being the first to successfully hypothesise the evolutionary emergence of gays liking bears 😉😂. I definitely need to get into some more Shafak! I'll check those recommendations out, thanks! And I'm super stoked to read Glory this month or next, especially with Animal Farm so fresh in my mind.

I felt the same about the present time storyline in Great Circle. I didn’t see the purpose of it and while I loved Marianne’s character, I didn’t really like Hadley Baxter, the actress.

Harley wasnt as developed and her story felt like it was just there so we can get the big "twist" at the end.

That's mostly what I thought about Cold Enough for Snow, I was mostly bored and wondering why everyone was praising it so much. But it's short, so not much time was wasted LOL.

I think, had it not been for the excess praise, I would have appreciated the story a bit more. But then again, I don't know if I would have read or even known of it if that was the case.
