Because it's the first "grand scale" video game in all gaming history. No other game has even been remotely this large before. Daggerfall had a larger world but it was mostly procedurally generated. Morrowind is literally the first game on Earth of this scale with the amount of actual design and content placed into it. And guess what? No version for the PlayStation exists!! Haha

In the vanilla game, in 2002, getting to Caldera felt like such a long trip. And with the draw-distance fog you would have no idea. But the actual caldera is just right there, Balmora is at the foot of it.

@@stevej71393 the best balance for me was always just mgexe with like 5 cells draw distance. This is enough that in Balmora, you can make out the observation dome of the Dwemer ruin where you find the puzzle cube from the silt strider platform. Honestly, I didn’t need much more than this for mods. I like the official and unofficial patches.

I can’t tell you how many times I went in circles for the first Redoran quest where you have to kill mudcrabs for the lady in the little cottage, the directions made no sense to me. It’s like “Wow how immersive, sometimes people give bad directions and you get lost!” Cannot recreate that in Skyrim without mods, and I only have a switch these days. The stupid compass marker you can’t turn off makes the clairvoyance spell totally useless

Skyrim's map is bigger but it feels more barren. Even with copy-paste caves. I have a feeling the devs knew a dense environment is better, but back then people wanted Big maps. So be it.

Last time I played I had a fast travel spell: Jump 100 pts for 1 second, Feather 100 pts for 1 second, Fortify Strength 100 pts for 1 second.

Yes I did this too!!! Jump 100 Pts alone is great but once you combine it with Feather and Fortify Strength all on one effect you travel so much further. I did alot of testing and Jump 100 pts, Feather 100 pts, and Fortify Strength 260 pts (max you can fit) will give you distance that's 2.5x further than just Jump 100 pts alone. Don't put slowfall on it though, even 1 Pt of Slowfall reduces your distance noticeably it's just hard to sell unless you compare side by side, jump from the same starting point via Mark Recall and you can tell though. Slowfall even 1 Point will reduce the distance you jump, even though many people think it doesn't it absolutely does just compare side by side jumping from the same starting point. Using Fortify Acrobatics to get 121 Jump is the best way to do it. Also if you get the Steed Birthsign you can have 125 Max Speed and that really helps average non magically enhanced characters overcome things. But I'm pretty sure you can just Boost your Speed up like Crazy via Alchemical Potions and then a normal jump 100 spell will give you way more distance than without the boosted speed, the same way you fly much faster when levitating with fortify speed effects equipped. You can no Clip through walls and explore dungeon cells really easy that way too.

This game really could use a remake, however, if Bethesda does it, it will probably suck.

Playing vanilla morrowind in open morrowind felt jankier than using the original engine despite its limitations. Open morrowind is fine as a platform but everyone should play the original game first imo

I don't remember fast travel working that way.

Can you do these graphic mods for the Xbox Gamepass version as well? Only seem to get OpenMW working

OpenMW is better visually with the newly added post-processing capability in the beta 0.49 release. It also never crashes. You can also disable/enable mods between saves without worry as well as doing that doesn't corrupt your saves like in Gamebryo. Lua scripting mods aside there's literally no reason in the 2020s to use MGE XE with the vanilla engine. Too much of a headache and too many crashes.

i prefer the original game engine because personally i think its much more impressive to run something which has been with us over 20 years now. plus, openMW has no lua support. i feel more than a few lua mods are definitely mandatory and bring much more than what openMW has to offer. I'm actually certain of this. i would really suggest you look for the mod author known as "merlord" and also keep in mind this is only one example of what you can find

OpenMW is fantastic but MWSE is indespensible for any serious modded playthrough. Yes OpenMW is more stable and can look a bit better, but it's just not worth sacrificing lua-dependent mods, which all of the great ones are. Even mods which don't depend on MWSE have issues with OpenMW if the author doesn't take it into account. OpenMW needs to focus on its mod support if it hopes to succeed MGE XE as the new norm, and its a long way off

@@minete_ MGE XE is the main graphics mod, and MET stands for "morrowind enhanced textures" all of these can be found at the morrowind mod nexus. the grass is also called "remieros ground cover".... and i dont remember which sound mods im using. i believe im using several of them which are customized

you recieve much less fall damage the more points you have in acrobatics, my character got to 100 by the end of the game because i kept jumping around everywhere to go faster, and i could do shit like jump off from the top floor of the foreign quarter of vivec straight to the ground level and not even recieve 1/4 of my health worth of fall damage.

actually, i think that the fall i just mentioned wouldn't even take 1/8 of my health worth of fall damage, at that point i was most likely immune to any fall in the game that didn't involve me using levitation to fly straight up in the air.

How are you landing without taking damage

121 Acrobatics. There is a breakpoint in the math of the game where once you reach that, you no longer take fall damage of any kind.

It doesn't. The morrowind engine is based on a third-party engine, and creation engine was uused since oblivion. This is probably OpenMW though, and that's a totally different engine that was just made to run morrowind. Edit: oops, i read the description and it is the original engine, my point still stands though

Like yes bro windows 11 is the same as windows 95 then? is unreal tournament the same as unreal tournamnet 4? is half life 2 the same as quake? it literally does not matter, their engine works fine and its actually very advanced plp only know its faults because bethesda allowed you to mod it beyond its capabilities (and its actually impressive that it can handle so much shit, try to mod any other game as bethesda games and see how fast it crashes), most of the bugs in bethesda games have nothing to do with the engine but bad scripting/design, CE2 is NOT gamebryo.
