I saw this meteor come into the atmosphere, at first I thought it was a formation of helicopters but realized after it was this meteor breaking up, I remember there were 2 pieces that broke off and looked to me like helicopters because of the slow drop. But the trails kept going off the meteors and realized it was such an amazing sight to watch a falling star break up into pieces. I'll never forget it.

I had just gotten out of my sleeping bag for a whizz, camping at about 9500 feet in Kings Canyon Park, about 30 miles northwest of where this video was taken. I happened to look over my left shoulder to the west and thought, "wow, Mars is really bright tonight! Wait, it's getting brighter!" I must have caught it just as it entered the atmosphere and started to glow. When it was directly overhead, it was still a single fireball, with just some small debris breaking off and glowing red. Glad to know this poster heard the boom too, I didn't see any reports of that on the news stories. Sonic boom?

The best footage I've seen so far...steady hand...a rare trait these days. I watched it with binoculars from Greenwood Ca. and was amazed how slow and how bright all the debris (?)...whatever it was really split up and burned bright...had a tail liken to a huge golden fireworks display. I thought it was a plane breaking up as it didn't look like a fireball, round shape... it looked oblong as it separated. I thought it was going to hit the Sierra Nevada Mtns...LIKE 209

Yea we saw it from Reno in the Southern sky from West to East... impressive. Thanks for video from the south of it. Our view was from the North of it. As it goes over those hills in your video we live on the other side and saw it less bright, more orange and trailing smoke... thought it was a Airliner on fire at first. Must have gone over the top of Yosemite...May have landed (if it did) in Utah.

I saw it from Riverside County, CA. About 250 miles to the south. I even called out the general area pretty friggin accurately when I estimated it to be over Death Valley. You're the closest video I've seen yet, and Alabama Hills is pretty close to the area I guesstimated. It looks like it may have been a smidge north of you, maybe between Independence and Bishop.

I thought it split also. But now i think the two flares were boosters firing up. Right over my head, it slowly lumbered so low and completely silent, i was certain it would hit the foothills. I could see embers blowing off spots on the bottom with my naked eye! Thats how low.. Next day i read it crashed in f'n Utah. Anyway it did light up and like u i thought it split. But it went up and over not only the food hills but over that Sierra Nevada Mountains! So i think it fired up something to make it up and over. And if u watch with that in mind, it does ascend and descend. Love this vid.

Notice the trajectory at the beginning of your vid!..... I also saw and filmed it. Even called the police because it was so low I was sure it would go down in the Sierra foothills. My view was from directly below. Imagine my surprise when it lumbered over me completely silent at helicopter patrol altitude. The huge rectangular object had ember like spots randomly covering the bottom which is what you captured very well. When it neared the foothills, it lit up as if it had split in two. But since i read it ended up in f'n Utah! Now i think it fired up something to clear the Sierras..... i also listen to the Fresno Airport ground to tower archive because it cut across the runway approach. And yes then discuss it. Anyway the official data accounts don't match my sighting... location, size, speed, altitude. Yet clearly the coverage is about the same siting. seems like the info could be easily verified. I look forward to uodates

Finally I found the video. I’ll never forget this day. I was in my cousin room sitting with her in the dark. I look out the window didn’t see anything I look back 5 secs later I see this fireball heading towards the window but it was moving slow. We screamed and panicked. Everyone and the neighbors came outside to see then it disappeared. Their dog bit my leg cause we were screaming thinking we were arguing😂😂😂. Now I have a scar. This scar will always hold that memory. I litterally called my mom crying thinking the world was going to end😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 the fireball look like it was having a face to face staring contest. That happened in Sacramento California.

Authorities in the Western United States received dozens of calls Wednesday night and Social Media was a buzz after a long-lasting fireball streaked through the night skies from California to Utah. Data from the Joint Space Operations Center confirmed the event was caused by the fiery re-entry of a Chinese rocket stage that had spent one month in orbit. California residents reported seeing the bright object in the skies at 9:36 p.m. local time on Wednesday, 4:36 UTC Thursday and described the event as a slow-moving fireball breaking up in the sky. Videos of the event show the typical characteristics of the re-entry of a man-made object - moving much slower than any natural meteor and breaking up into individual fragments.

IDK... the distance between fragments never changes. On most space junk videos the pieces clearly separate as the lighter pieces lag behind, spread out, and burn out quicker than the heavier. Yes the orientation & perspective change, but the relative distance between debris pieces appears constant, as does the vapor/smoke/ionization? trail.
