Wow. Mike is a true vulture, just pecking away for the first ten minutes looking for 'the angle'. McKernan is a very honest and humble champion of the 90's, who might be overlooked by many (non North fans especially) reflecting back on this era. I'm an Essendon supporter, McKernan had a lot of similarities to Simon Madden. Agile, goal kicking, highly skilled rucks don't come round too often.

I'm a Bomber too. Saw a lot of Madden.....he reminded me a lot more of Peter Moore. Agile, great leap, good hands, but it's when the ball hit the ground the ground that he looks like Moore....I feel for Corey....Johnny Barnes admitted he was milking a free there too

Corey has been one of North Melbourne's most talented players ever. Always gave everything to the team. I watched the zero stats day, and the ball just refused to come close.

It wasnt just that game, he lost his confidence really bad for a long time. I think Denis Pagan screwed him up mentally. Same thing happened to Drew Petrie.

@@tubester4567 he went through a period where he was running under the ball at marking contests. Always in the contest but not timing the contact to the ball. Then he realised his vision was not quite right and he began wearing contact lenses. That seemed to fix it and he was up and going again. Denis was a double edged sword. I worked with Dorothy McGrath, mum of Tim McGrath. She told me of how many young boys were damaged trying to become VFL/AFL players. It was Brutal, and of course it still is.

@J G The Sydney Swans and Brisbane draw far bigger crowds than any soccer match. By 2050 Rugby League will be even less watched and soccer still cant get people through the gates even though it has been here forever in Australia. My team Collingwood plays one game and the best drawing crowd in Soccer Melbourne Victory needs to play 10 games to match the attendance of one Collingwood game. I actually love soccer but for a spectacle its AFL by a mile. seriously. lol

As a swans supporter,I recall Corey was dominant as a ruckman and that booming goal he scored in the 1999 grand final. He seems humble.

I'm not a NM supporter and I think he should get the Brownlow retrospectively, that John Barnes incident was very soft and Barnes milked it for all he could, He got up pretty quickly to take the free kick didn't he.

Denis hated seeing blokes not playing to their potential. After 96’ McKernan never really found that consistent form again and over time it obviously frustrated Pagan and his way was to yell it out of you and pile on the pressure rather than nurture it out of you. From that I’ve been told anyway.

Haha I can actually remember that, think it was 96’ he had this huge cyst on his cheek and then a week later the hole was there. So he must have had it drained or excised and left the big scar.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him down in Hobart in 2015 at the Salamanca markets at a local cafe. Tried to cut the line in front of me. Total flog.
