We had a great man the son of Tanganyika who built us in one tribe called Tanzanians and that is who we are, we thank God for this great man, i remember in 1999. When he passed away, it was very fearful in my heart although we had a president Mpaka, i had fear if we should continue without him, but we are now in this time 2024. May his children prosper to what he did to our country.. praise God who brings people of their time and season

Oh please like East Africa is any better and I am from Uganda and Congo (DRC). Stop disrespecting our West African family please !

By 1963 he had begun opposing African unity the way Nkrumah suggested it. I don't admire him.

He was a very good orator but very short-sighted. Policies like Ujama which he promoted in his own country failed. Surprisingly some of his compatriots refer to him as " the greatest African of all time." How they arrive at that conclusion is a nut I've not been able to crack for decades.

@@aureliusmarkus9139 You are wrong to say the man was short-sighted just because the implementation of Ujamaa and self-reliance policies didn't work. Does it mean even also Nkrumah was short-sighted because all of the staff he theorized after independence didn't work in Ghana and the rest of Africa?

@@joelntile9078 You're correct. Ujamaa didn't work probably because of the limitations of the time and African socialism seems to be a problem. But Nyerere was a good person. I didn't even know he opposed African unity. I'm still a student though. But for Dr. Nkrumah , he has all the glory. He is the most invaluable African to ever live

He was the greatest not by fault or favors but by how he fought and supported many African movements towards their independence. It's not a matter of short-sighted nor being adored by what history speaks of him. He has his victories as much as his faults. But one thing I cannot stand is anyone foolishly judge him without understanding him. He wasn't arrogant but a confident man,he accept his mistakes and publicly outspoken them. How can you judge what they did during post colonial era if you fail to understand and reason with the circumstances they faced to maintain their independence?

Its okay not to admire him but he was in favour regional blocks than the whole Africa united under one president. He had many faults bt he wasn't arrogant! In many of his failures he openly admitted them. He was not a power monger, not corrupt, very kind to every one and that's enough. I think only Tanzanian can understand him

Nyerere was puppet for European not he wasn't a hero for Tanzanian at all
