Julie Huang (Stanford U.): H. pylori finds its home

Ғылым және технология

www.ibiology.org/microbiology...
Most microorganisms cannot survive in the hostile environment of the stomach. But, what happens when bacteria survives the gastric lumen and are able to call the stomach its home? Dr. Julie Huang tells us the story of H. pylori, eccentric bacteria that are able to colonize human stomach. These bacteria are the leading cause of stomach ulcers in humans and are associated with stomach cancer. Huang discovered TlpB, a chemoreceptor in H. pylori that enables bacteria to detect suitable environments and thereafter “swim” toward their home, the epithelial cells. She showed that TlpB detects the presence of urea, allowing H. pylori to find a more neutral environment where it can survive. This demonstrates that bacteria not only can sense potentially harmful cues, like low pH, but can also react to favorable factors, like urea, when finding their new home. This innovative understanding on how H. pylori find their niche opens new routes to develop novel approaches to prevent stomach ulcers and cancer.
Speaker Biography:
Dr. Julie Huang completed her Bachelor degree at the California Institute of Technology. Given her scientific merits, she was granted a Fulbright scholarship in 2009 to work at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Germany. After this experience, Huang joined the Microbiology and Immunology doctorate program at Stanford University, where she started to work with Dr. Manuel Amieva. At Stanford, she studied how the pathogen H. pylori survive in the stomach. Her outreach interests led her to be involved in different mentoring initiatives, including co-founding the Stanford First Gen/Low-Income (FLI) Undergraduate Mentoring Program.

I’ve been recently diagnosed with H pylori after suffering for 4 years. My symptoms range from stomach upset, nausea, discomfort after eating, nausea, bloating, joint pains, headaches, pain in the abdominal area, etc.. My doctor completely missed the diagnosis for all these years. It took a visit to a Gastro and an endoscopy to find out. Now I am finally on my road to recovery. You have to be your own health advocate, some doctors are clueless!

I would like more information on how we can help our bodies fight this ugly bugs? and protect them from getting reinfected? What foods can help? Or natural meds.? Or drugs that don’t have a crazy long list of side effects. If anyone has any ideas, please point us in the right direction.

Great presentation. It makes sense to me, when I first started having pylori symptoms was 4-5 years ago, I had lots of acid reflux, burping, gastritis etc, I never treated it because I didn’t know a bacteria could cause this and I thought all this was a response to my high fat/carb diet, after cleaning my diet I still had the symptoms.. 4 years from that and those symptoms have been greatly reduced without any treatment, but I got other diseases (confirmed) like candida and bacterial overgrowth, which IMO were caused by low stomach acid, thanks to the pylori. The scary part for me is that I believe that my chronic pylori, has made its way through the bottom of my stomach cells.. I believe this because, A) I no longer have acid related symptoms, B) I’ve done different tests to catch the infection with 2 positive tests and several false negatives (including a biopsy and blood) C) I have low stomach acid based on tests I’ve tried.. My question is, is there any protocol which incorporates urea with abx to attract pylori to the surface, out of the gastric glands roots?

Eliminating the bacteria has improved my health in several unexpected ways. Besides eliminating bleeding ulcers it (treatment) eliminated virtually all gas and gas odor, muscle cramping, and reduced auto immune ailments such as rheumatoid arthritis. I think this is related to the improvement in nutrition absorption, eliminating intestinal inflammation, and improving electrolyte balance. Wow, unexpected improvements.

If I do happen to have any of this, have you found what I can do to actually heal it or kill it all before it possibly getting any worst? I know that even over a decade ago I was feeling sudden sharp pains at certain times that would spring up under my heart I believe then would go away but while there, it would lead me to breathe diffidently cause it didn’t allow me or so I’d think, to breathe in all the way in without feeling that pain, then it’d leave. I know also got impacted by a minivan that nearly missed hitting me dead on at around 20mph; this was about 10 or more years ago. I never went to get checked. But after getting hit I felt like something started leaking behind my sternum downwards; I started hopping thinking that would stop that; it stopped, I felt I’d be fine and things got better. Things went back to normal. But it was before that accident that I was already feeling these sudden sharp pains that would come and go. Years after the accident; btw I was just crossing a street where I ran into the side of that minivan; I also noticed that if I jumped rope or ran, after a certain time or distance I’d start feeling like behind my abdomen there was an injury that would start hurting. Fast forwarding: I had a reaction 3 weeks ago that felt like my heart was under attack; a sudden uprising that lead to this sudden sharp attack underneath the heart; I didn’t say anything or get checked; then last Saturday I had another reaction that lead me to then goto emergency. They checked and said my heart, lungs were fine, blood pressure and all was almost perfect. So they prescribed 3 meds “Tylenol, Pepcid and maalox” because when they gave it to me it did me well; took away this ill stuffy feeling; but it hasn’t gone fully away; I didn’t continue taking the meds although they were purchased for me, and last night I had another reaction but not as bad. Me also googling doesn’t seem to help that much because I get back and forth statements from different people. Some say the meds are good as long as I don’t overuse while others say I shouldnt be taking them at all.

  • 2 жыл бұрын

@@gigafia5358 If you have/had pylori, its almost certain your stomach acid levels arent optimal, the reasoning behind that is because pylori actually lowers stomach acid for its survival and there is a theory that almost all of us have pylori but it only affects some people, and the reason is because the epigenetics of the person can contribute to it. Some drs claim that the reason people get pylori is because low stomach acid in first place, its like the chicken or the egg question. But in my case, yes pylori tend to lower stomach acid, yes SIBO can be caused by low stomach acid and candida too. Candida is just opportunistic, flourishes when somethings off for a long time, it could be chronic infections, low stomach acid, stress, antibiotics, high carb diet, and of course the MIX of 2 or more of those..

I found this video because I have an H Pylori infection, and I have a naturopathic doctor that is helping me with probiotics, a food regimen and supplements. It sounds wild but I think this should be our first line of defense so I figure it's worth sharing. Antibiotics also kill healthy bacteria that our gut bicrobiome thrive from which takes months or even years to come back from with guidance, so taking that into account makes it extra worthwhile to try other methods first with less drastic consequences.
