When Dewey said " peaks and valleys" I immediately thought WOW there's a tribute song in there somewhere to Dan Peek.
I saw America with Dan Peek in 1975 during “The Hearts” tour at the Frost amphitheater in Berkeley. My hi school sweetheart and I were in the front row and I had my first America album and one of the crew got Dan to sign it. I’ll always remember that concert and memories of growing up with America! This is a great interview! Thank You!
Lots of love to Dewey and Gerry! Excellent book.
AMERICA'S MUSIC SAVED MY LIFE !!!!
I love America they are a fantastic band that needs more attention.
At the 50 year mark, it’s an exciting time to be an America fan. The recent releases of rare material, the new box set, this book, the recent press surrounding these things, tv appearances, and even the KZread content. As for me, America are my heroes who have inspired a lifetime of pleasure as a guitar player. I spent my formative years learning the chords and solos to America songs, marveling at the song structures and embracing the music as part of who I am as a person. I am so grateful to have the comfort the music has provided, like a lifelong friend. Thank you, Jude, for documenting for the ages what special gifts America has given us all.
Gerry and Dewey both mention at the end of this interview how much they can't wait to get back on the road. I just saw them Labor Day weekend (2021) which was just a little over a month after they first met up to start rehearsals before hitting the road on their first post-quarantine tour - can I just say, they have not missed a beat!!! They sounded, and looked, incredible, and even the three folks with me, (including my husband) who were not big "lifelong" fans and had never been to an America concert in their life (compared to my 25 plus times) loved the concert and said that the boys sounded awesome! Long live America!!! Thanks for the great music and the great times!!! Keep on touring, and... America, remember... AMERICA loves YOU!!! 💖🎶🎸💖
I read it and it was terrific. Omg, I didn't picture the author being as young! Book was wonderfully written and comprehensive review of their career. .Learned a lot about the guys. At the end of the book should say " story to be continued.."
My favourite band of all time. Love you and your music
I just ordered my copy, super excited to read it during this lockdown. America, the greatest band of all time!!!! Sending love from Ireland. 🇮🇪❤️
Brilliant in depth interview and analysis of a band that has taken so many people from teenagers to pensioners over 50 years . A back catalogue crammed full of memorable tunes that still hold up well half a century later . Like many The Dan Peek era was always my favourite and given the bands significant anniversary oh how i wish he could have been celebrating this milestone with them. I still regard A Horse With No Name as one of the greatest singles of my lifetime and i also thought it was Neil Young at the time ! , Their unique blend of harmonies and acoustic prowess is even more comforting during times of uncertainty , long may they run .
I really love Jude's book, America The Band.

Dewey, where is your hair my brother? Sucks doesn't it. I'm 57 and had a full head of hair at 50 and now I'm about half bald, hairline obliterated, crowning in the back and my hair got curly. It's really something I try not to worry about. The big thing is to be thankful for good health and not getting sick and diseased. A balding head, well it happens to most men and many women too. Anyway, I read Dan's book. I'll certainly buy this book too. It's about freaking time you guys put out a book. I own most of what you have out, like those new demo and rarity cds. Anyway, glad you guys are still around and I'm slapping you both once for never doing at least one more album with Dan. That was cold, or at least it wasn't what the fans wanted. The fans wanted for there to be at least some sort of reunion. That said, I know the two of you had the better voices and wrote the better songs so maybe it was best that Dan left. He was a good man though, imo. I've been connected to you guys since I had a 45 record of Horse With No Name and that's a long damned time. I also have a large collection of your live recordings and fair amount of video, all of your dvds for sure, not all the cds though but most of them, not the adult contemporary albums or whatever they were but most of the stuff. And too bad you had a few people retire from your band, Michael Woods, Willie Lee Cox, and you had that bass player that retired and I think he died. And wasn't he a photographer too? My memory is not good. I used to think it was but I can't remember much from when I read biographies and stuff. So much of it just ebbs away so fast. I remember Dan seeing Joni Mitchell naked by the pool though. I can remember some things. That was in his book. And yeah, a terrible rambling comment. I need to get off of the internet. I have too much time on my hands lately. It's making me scatterbrained. : )
Peter Jackson. Fantastic.

Tiny factual error: there is no Washington University in Topeka. It’s Washburn University.
Does Dewey's horse have a name?
Dan's book...hmmm.
