This man has a family of his own that’s why he comes and goes during the story. Riding around in Saint Denis you can overhear him having a convo with his fam.

I think one of the reasons Trelawny keeps disappearing from the gang is because he has a family of his own back in Saint Denis to attend to.

Trelawny was probably the only person that was allowed to leave the van der linde gang when he pleases because he plans the exact same plans Dutch makes. Both are perfect at seducing others with words. And are obsessed with reckless heists. Take for example the casino boat heist was perfect but there was no escape plan. Leaving poor Strauss to swim back to shore. Reckless behavior Dutch was known for too. Dutch probably has a soft spot for him, because Trelawny offers him exactly what pleases Dutch.

Trelawny was amazing at planning and setting up robberies but he lacked escape plans, seen mostly during the casino boat heist. Trelawny set up the whole robbery but forgot to think of an escape plan for the gang if things went south

Because Trelawnys heists usually don't go south if he does them properly. On the boat Javier didn't secure the guard he took the uniform from and Arthur didn't thoroughly search the pit boss missing his second gun. As for Lemoyne, he was involved in an illegal prospecting enterprise, a crime so whitecollar it would have barely resulted in a fine had the Sheriff not just let him go out of gratitude to Arthur.

Trelawny is the single criminal with a brain in the whole game. He actually plans and doesn't just constantly spouts about having a plan, he robs without people even knowing they got robbed, he puts his earnings to good practical use, has a working façade as an upstanding member of society and his pull-out game is world class. He's got the cunning Dutch wishes to have, the charm and eloquence Hosea probably once had and the patience and self control Mikah so desperately lacks.

One of the most interesting characters on the game. Also a peaceful man.

Him and the gang have a symbiotic relationship. Trelawny himself can't pull off half of the scores he finds without the gang, and the gang can't find the type of scores Trelawny does. That's there main connection, and yes there is an obvious from of kinship with him and the gang like you mentioned in the video. However if were to compare the gangs relationship with themselves, they serve as immediate family, brothers and sisters. I'd say Trelawny is more akin to the gang as a "Cousin", that being he's apart of the family just not a close member of it.

Pfft, Trelawny is one of only five people in that camp I'd trust at my back, he may be shifty, but he's loyal and has more courage and ingenuity than he's credited with. In case anyone is curious, the other ones are Charles, Sadie, John, and Mrs. Grimshaw. In that order.

When going through the game with trelawny I always thought of dr.swultz from Django. A smooth talker, and if you analyze both of their mannerisms, personality, and the theatrical appeal, you'd never assume they're in the deadly lifestyle of dealing with the law( both involved but on opposite sides). I'd like to think rockstar got their inspiration from dr.swultz

They keep him around because Hosea, Dutch and Arthur all have bets on what his accent is, and he hasn’t slipped up yet.

Trelawny’s voice reminds me of darkviperau

Trelawny is to the gang what Nigel West Dickens was to John in part one. An associate who likely helped with scams and schemes over the years when they needed someone with a bit more finesse than their typical brute force methods would allow for. Not part of the gang, but an ally nonetheless. Like how you're friends aren't necessarily family.

Trelawny was like.... the Gang's only way of being able to get to tahiti or just change their identies and having land to live or whatever. Specially with 10s of thousands of dollars i gave in camp funds.

What is also interesting is how Trelawny will never really shut up and runs the risk of running his mouth if he gets caught but what’s interesting is what he was doing the year before Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place. Red Dead online takes place a year before the events of the game and Trelawny could be seen frequently in front of the Fence near Rhodes. Often offering work to the silent protagonist (RDO player) work in regard to rob stagecoaches and things of that nature. If anything the reason why Josiah asked Arthur and Charles to bring him back to Rhodes is because he probably planning on doing it again. This is also taking into consideration that the train station depot clerk in Rhodes has also offered dirty work for Arthur in the same town. Makes you wonder…

TB lies dormant in most people that have it. And even when you do get active TB, that’s usually something that occurs after years of it being dormant. Since RDR2 is contained entirely within spring-fall 1899, Arthur simply couldn’t have caught TB from Downes and gotten fatally ill from it in that time span.

His role was akin to the women of the camp. He worked and earned with them, but he was not a fighter. (and that is not a slight towards him) Ms.Grimshaw pulled a gun, and was ready to fight, and for that she died. But the non combatants is the ones that got away. (mostly) Look at Swanson and Pearson. The ones that had or was willing to get blood on their hands seems to be the ones that was taken out.

theres a big difference between john and trelawny. trelawny collects knowledge for them while he's out, and the more successful robbery attempts are because of him. he is a valuable asset to dutch and the rest of the gang. john tried to run away from his problems, and his duties as a father and as a gun man of the van der linde gang.

Seems like trelawny is more so a friend of the gang rather than a bonafide member. That’s why he’ll work with the gang and spend time with them but doesn’t actually live with them full time.

Trelawny would be my third favorite character given he always attempted to avoid leaving a trail of bodies unalived unlike the other members. His cunning and marvelous efforts at entertainment was to better the gang at being able to steal without problems.
