Anything that happened on defense, except Bradberry (because he is just burnt out) I throw out because the coaching was so bad. They hired an inexperienced defensive coordinator, and then went to one who didn’t fit the scheme he was calling plays from. Sweat will bounce back in a big way. IMO

Don't you think a couple major factors of Sweat lining up on the right side are: 1. His mangled knee is more akin to dip better when he's flying off that side? With how quick his get-off is, that must play a factor, no? 2. LTs are usually longer than their RT counterparts. Sweat's wingspan is elite, so have to think those play a factor. Re-signing Josh to a one year deal is much like last year signing Fletch to his. Obviously, Fletch is a franchise icon; whereas, Sweat is a nice footnote (so far). But if they weren't gonna find any EDGE in FA, why not sign him to a "prove it" deal? Unless the knee finally catches up with him, he's in for a 7-10+ sack season with solid-if-unspectacular hit/hurry/pressure rate(s).

This is one of those instances where I wish you had a metric or created a factor (ie, SEM) *that controls for the LEVEL OF TALENT that a player goes against.* #Sweat is 💯 *a VERY GOOD EDGE & MUCH BETTER than most ppl consider.* *Edit:* in at least a couple of the “low IQ” clips; it’s entirely overlooked that the interior players did not follow their assignments, which resulted in Sweat & the other player(s) being forced to improvise simultaneously - that’s a failure NOT JUST of Sweat, but also the interior players (& it was endemic of the ENTIRE DEFENSE). It’s akin to ppl criticizing JD & labeling as a failure at DT, but they don’t truly know defensive line play & only what metrics are common (eg, bet OVER 95% of fans could NOT explain why pre-snap hip alignment into gap vs just getting head/helmet into gap is desired & required if they’re taking doubles often. They can’t even understand when you try to explain via analogy of a Center in BB or value of the pick in a pick & roll & then transferring to football to “look beyond metrics to assess IDL players’ values, esp NTs).

amazing work as always the film cut ups matching your commentary is great! seeing him in the B gap in front of Blankenship was very telling. My biggest concern with Josh Sweat is his knee injury from high school potentially impacting his play in the 2nd half of last season and ending his career prematurely. you don't mention Sweat lining up as a 5 tech with an edge player outside of him or as lining up inside on pure pass rush snaps. I think that is a failed experiment and hope we don't see anymore.

Don't y'all think coaching had to do with that tho? Every position last year seemed like it was coached pretty poorly I mean reed was leading the team in tackles for damn near the whole season

I agree you saw him take away the outside run against the Dolphins in a huge way. I can't hold anyones play under Patricia against them

Everyone keeps blaming the issues with defense on the coaches, really offense, too. Is it all coaching? Or do players have some responsibility for what happened towards the end of the season? The coaches aren't on the field executing plays.

    Players certainly are mostly responsible

Really think he’s gonna be the odd man out at OLB. Just don’t see him fitting what Fangio wants

Bro changed his number to 19, he's either bout to have Jason babin season or a Robert Quinn season. Either way he's probably gone after this year
