I don't think Dejean is going to be a safety, he's a cb, and I think the Eagles drafted him to be a cb, preferably an outside corner that can also play inside, similar to Kenny Moore. Reed CJ and Brown are a competent safety trio. I am not opposed to Dejean occasionally playing safety in big nickel

Teams exposing him with long crossing routes he don't have the speed to cover that much ground
@PhillyFilmRoom
Ай бұрын
First, crossing routes are man beaters. That's why defense defend them by trying to buzz a safety down to the opposite side of the field. I can also show plays of C.J. and Sydney not keeping up with crossing routes. Second, he didn't really get exposed by them. He got beat once against the Commanders when he was forced onto a WR due to a blitz and had no inside low hole player to help leverage the route to. People keep saying Reed is too slow and then clamor for us to get Justin Simmons (18.6MPH top GPS, 2023) when Reed's top GPS time was much faster (20.4MPH). In fact, Reed's top GPS time (21.0MPH, 2022) was faster than Simmons top GPS time of his career (20.6MPH). Reed ran a faster 40 too. Point is, people are making too much about his speed. Simmons obviously had a very successful career while being one of the slowest safeties in the league. Every player has weaknesses (and yes, crossing routes are a weakness for almost every safety), but Reed has more than enough athleticism to excel at safety and he made a ton of plays this past season as well.

@@unrhu You know, when you sit here and lie about what was in the video it discredits all of your arguments. We literally talked about his negative plays (In depth on the Giants blown coverage; Cowboys TD in Week 8, etc). We also discussed how to use him to best fit his skill set in accordance with the other safeties. As far as Ball Hawk - tied for 11th among all safeties in INTs, forced incompletion rate (11 PBUs total) was 23rd out of the top 100 safeties. He had PBUs in man coverage on CeeDee Lamb, Cooper Kupp and Terry McLaurin. Did he blow some coverages? Yes of course, just like EVERY SINGLE SAFETY EVER. I can go through and show you all of Justin Simmons blown coverages from this year too. They also had same amount of INTs, nearly the same forced INC rate and Simmons had a higher missed tackle rate. That's on top of Simmons max GPS speed this year hitting a career low 18.6MPH vs Reed at 20.4 MPH. You're ignoring the tons of really good things Reed did and only focusing on the bad. If he was that bad the Eagles wouldn't have extended his contract at all and Sydney Brown would've taken his reps last year (Syd took 0 of Reeds reps).

@@unrhu I mean it's been said before, but there will be two starting safeties. We will roll into the season with CJGJ and Reed being the two starting safeties. And last time I explained this, you said they are both free safeties so Reed wouldn't get the nod over CJGJ. Then I expressed that they both are not bound to the free safety position. So that would mean they could be on the field together. And as of now, it looks like the Eagles are interested in playing Dejean at nickle or outside. Because we need two safeties on the field, and since Dejean won't be playing at safety, it's only reasonable to assume Reed will be starting opposite CJGJ.
