There is a video on KZread of English fan's trying to burn the Italian flag that was on the ground. They didn't manage to set it alight so they jumped up and down on the Italian flag instead.

I’ve been on 100 finnish home and away games in my life and i’ve never even heard anyone booing oppositions national anthem, it was the first time when i watched england vs germany and i was shocked, but not suprised when it’s english people. Sad, very sad

Booing a national anthem is an expression of bigotry pure and simple. Racism is an expression of bigotry but only worse. The two things are definitely related. Why you'd want to boo another country's national anthem is beyond me and as we've seen with focused professional footballers it doesn't achieve anything.

This is why when other fans didn't want us to win, I actually see it as justifiable. People are actually ridiculous, Property damage, England fans fighting amongst each other and targeting italian fans. Racist abuse targeted at players. @adam you say it's just a game but it's much deeper than that. Football is used as a release valve for the perceived unjust occurrences which happens in their lives. I was at the game and I was hoping for a carnival. There was a dark/edgy undertone, a bit like the theme in the latest Joker film. Social-economic disparities in society (which is accelerating) will breed more racists and violence actions.

Ive been attending the Irish national teams matches for years, (for all my sorrows). And have never seen the fans boo another countrys anthem, including England and Northern Ireland. The English have a superior complex due to a lack of interraction and education and runs throughout the society.

Booing an opponent's national anthem is as bad a sportsman behaviour as any I've seen. A national anthem playing at an Olympics podium or before a world cup final is a thing of great importance and if you can't understand that, you don't understand sport or basic manners !

This idea England has the best fans is a total myth. The atmosphere was dead at Wembley. Dead. And it is at most premier league games as well.

JIm is spot on as much as you all dont want to hear it, this is why the rest of the world wont get behind you in tournaments or take england on as a 2nd team after their own team is eliminated. Its not a minority, its at every event to some degree, glastonbury being a general exception. Never saw violence at glastonbury in 5+ years until the day england were beaten by germany there was carnage there that day. When in a crowd, england football fans revert to type. Deal with it or it will never change. Oh so you believe the behaviour of a few idiots is purely isolated to England? England players have been racially abused by Spanish, Italians Russians, Bulgarians etc. But I wouldn’t assume all of there fans are racist pigs. Trouble can be found in most groups of supporters, but clearly that won’t fit your purely anti English bias.

I'm from Uruguay and we have our own share of football violence from a minority, but no one will ever take the attention away from how WRONG that is and try to sweep it under the rug because "99% of us are so good". This guy Simon may love his counrty and feel deeply ashamed of what the minority of fans did but you can't conceal the violence. I've seen other fans in Europe such as Russians being violent but there's no denying England has an issue there that's bigger than most other countries including European counterparts so they'd better focus on fixing that. If anywhere else a mob had tried to storm a major cup final without tickets and succeed at it - these same journalists would probably dismiss that as "3rd world" problems. You need to do better.

Utterly disgusted with the behaviour on my nation. Gone is the chance of fifa accepting any bid to host a future tournament. So unbelievably proud of the team, disgusted by the fans.

Fifa can turn their heads at thousands of migrant workers dying while building stadiums to host their tournament but wont accept future bids due to this ... FIFA will host their tournament in the country who pays them the most money and no amount of hooliganism will change that.

Not the best fans in the world, sorry Simon. Good/great yes, but not the best. The Japanese fans clean their own stadiums before leaving FFS. They sing, are passionate and without all the punch ups, racist vitriol or the antagonistic banter. I realise it's a minority clowning about, but England and Simon needs to own this behaviour.

It's going to get to the point where England games are played in empty stadiums unless there's a big change

I’ve been to 9 football tournaments and there wasn’t a time when there hasn’t been incidents with England football fans. I’ve been attacked, abused, booed, spat at, had stuff thrown at me. I’ve seen fans piss in the street and fight amongst them selves. All England fans. And I hear the same that it’s a minority. It’s a pretty big minority in my experiences. The sad things is that there are thousands of decent England fans but the problem doesn’t come from a few hundred.

There is something a bit off in the English psyche, hence why it happens. We are talking about the same country who booed off a batsman who had just been knocked out by a cricket ball just because his team mates used sandpaper 18 months back.

In regards to the booing of the national anthems I think danny was right, asking England fans to be show a bit of class and be respectful the same as just about every other country in the world is probably asking too much

White is right. Absolutely spot on. Only reason why everyone is agreeing with Simon is because it's convenient. Much respect to White for calling a spade a spade. Pictures speak louder than words. Need an unbiased frame of mind to see through Simon Jordan's bs.

I usually agree with Simon but I can't with this one. We certainly do not have the best fans in the world. But it's endemic of a cultural problem rather than a "British football fan" problem. We have a class divide and we have a drinking culture and those two ingredients make for a pretty rotten cocktail.

Agreed. I used to be an atheist but getting rid off the church as part of the culture is probably one of the most dangerous things to happen to the country. People don't engage positively in their communities and don't have good role models. All they live for is booze and watching football at the pub.

This is ridiculous now. Someone tell me how anything Jim White says or does that helps with these topics in any way? His ignorance dilutes the education that is being presented by civilised views from the likes of Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy. Let the qualified people open viewers minds Jim and be quiet or ask something that sparks some enlightenment.

Listen, I am Welsh and since I support the Swans (awaits the sheepshagging jokes) I've travelled around England to watch them. I have had some amazing times with rival fans, have been welcomed into pubs full of rival fans, have spoken to fans as young as three years old to a 98 year old gentleman in Hull who was so proud to tell me he'd seen John Charles play and showed me nothing but respect. Only time I ever got mixed up in trouble was at Leeds when some guy spat on me as we were walking back to the car. I can safely say I have never felt threatened or intimidated in a football match, sadly I HAVE heard racial abuse but it's a very small minority of people I've heard it from and they've always been shouted down, beaten up or kicked out in all honesty. The majority of fans, whether you are English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish are decent people. As we've done before, the decent majority of us just have to make sure that these idiots get named, shamed and their behaviour not tolerated.

It was way more than 100, just look at what happened in Leicester Square which was followed up by a surge of thousands of non-ticket holders invading the stadium. I haven't witnessed other nations football fans behave in this manner at a major tournament, particularly a final, it was out of control.

Simon 'we have to get context' Jordan speaking mind yet again.

With regards to the people bunking into the ground, completley uefas fault this was the biggest game in our history and uefa charges thousands and let Tom cruise in.

True, I understand that.

I was one of the fans that turned up without a ticket to try and buy some on the day. When I got there I saw a load of fans singing, letting of smoke bombs, dancing, throwing inflatable balls etc. This is stuff that I dont have a problem with at all. Then there were some ppl throwing beer cans and bottles (saw 2 people bleeding and being helped by paramedics), abusing Italy fans etc. We seem to think its ok because it game day. Same as this saying that I've heard 'its just banter'. We are a great nation lets act like it

Respect for national anthems is just not going to happen??? I live in Canada and I don't think I've ever seen Canadians boo any national anthem in any sport. What do you get out of booing a national anthem anyway?

Should they not boo when the game is on either? It's called gamesmanship. Jim White ironically got annoyed at the suggestion that the media wants a blow up for a story and then he's blowing things out of proportion for a story himself.

This talk of the ‘best fans in the world’ is invalid, even though its the minority it still shows up the majority with the racism, booing of national anthems and fan behaviour.

I'm Canadian and LOVE English football but Danny Mills & Simon seeing no issue with boo'ing the national anthem is a problem in itself and enables these issues to continue.

I watched plenty of matches across the whole Euros and the only anthems that I heard being booed were the ones of the teams that England were playing.

The reason i feel Jim has a point is, as football fans, each is supposed to be another's keeper. If you watch a bunch of lunatics misbehaving and you condone it, you inevitably are complicit

Actually upsetting watching the scenes that unfolded after the game. These lager louts who only go to watch football because it saves a day of domestic abuse committed against their wives/gfs tar the rest of the English people who know how to act in a civilised society with the same brush. Don’t know what the domestic abuse comments are about, but there are a set of fans that make us all look bad for sure.

They both make valid points. Agree with Simon not wanting paint all England fans under the same brush but also see where Jim’s coming from

I think it is strange to classify booing anthems as „normal football amtosphere“ just because it is normal in England. There are a lot of places in europe where this doesn‘t occeur. Don‘t normalize it, because it is just not that normal…

@Johnny Kerr it literally was a minority tho. you cant fight the facts. there's always rubbish and mess left behind in these games and fixtures when scotland came down they left just as much of rubbish behind some off them were kind enough to help clean it. in all these situations its always the minority's that make the loudest noise and cause the most trouble and unfortunately ruin it for everyone else. which then in turn helps people who just don't like england or football jump on the band wagon its all of them. which is exactly what you did and probably enjoy doing.

Simon is right about the media attention. The worst trouble I’ve ever seen in a stadium was at the Canarian Derby in Gran Canaria about 15 years ago, when the Las Palmas fans spent the whole second half raining bottles down on the Tenerife fans. The next day, the Spanish press said not one word about it. Had the same thing happened in any stadium in England, it would have been back page headline news, to then be picked up on by the world’s media. We don’t help ourselves of course, but the football trouble makers exist in every country, they just get ignored in most and publicised in England

That was 1 isolated incident, where ever the English fans travel, they cause disruption, mayhem & trouble, nothing but uneducated louts. It's a shame their employers cant be told about this after the police catch up with them.

They never show a streaker, but they gladly show violence. Take that!

The thing is that I would bet most of them fans that rushed the stadium and disgraced themselves are probably doctor's, teachers, judges, solicitors, bankers etc etc during the week. let that sink in.
