Jon Moxely talks Rehab, Forbidden Door and dad life | The Sessions with Renee Paquette

Get ready for Jon Moxley. A LOT of Jon Moxley. After six months of silence, Renee’s husband, the former (and future?) AEW World Champion joins The Sessions to discuss his tumultuous last year, from writing a book to his decision to enter rehab for alcohol abuse. And now, he’s got bones to pick (Forbidden Door), stories to divulge (Blackpool Combat Club) and, most importantly, dad jokes to tell (no spoilers). This is a long one, but a good one. Not to be missed, folks.

Tell Jon that I' glad he got the help he needed and is doing better. Also let him know that he gave me the courage to go and pour that handle of vodka I had been saving down the drain. Granted I haven't touched it for 9 months or so, I was always saving it for just in case. But listening to him I got up and poured it down my drain. I myself recently went on our journey to treat my mental health and I'm feeling better than ever. But seeing Jon coming through this and being so willing to get the help he needed was inspiring. Keep it up! I always found Dean Ambrose boring, but I LOVE JON FKING MOXELY!

My dad is sober and the way Jon describes drinking non alcoholic beverages, that’s exactly what my dad has said. It was hard for him at first but he has been sober for 15+ years. Now and then he will take a sip of beer just to taste the hops or flavor. He has no interest in “drinking” and it’s inspiring. Rooting for you Jon!! You are helping so many people when you share your story and experience with rehab and sobriety. Love you guys and your beautiful family!

I do want to comment on this: First off, congrats to Jon for continuing to work on himself. I can see the physical tranformation. As someone who has seen someone not turn their life around after dealing with alcohol, it's refreshing to see someone I look up to tackle it, acknowledge it, and be able to handle it so masterfully. Secondly, I have 'MOX', and I can't wait to get started. I've read it partially before, but had to put it down because of school. I'm getting ready to start it again, and can't wait. Lastly, I want to say, Mox, I look up to you as a role model. I look up to you as the badass you are. From wearing your heart on your sleeve to making MF's bleed in the ring, you have constantly reminded me why I fell in love with the Mox character. You sir, are the definition of a real man. Hey Jon, as a fellow person in recovery, whatever you do, recovery comes first - and then everything else will follow. I see a lot of people who loved rehab - even didn’t want to leave (including me), and that is just a very long round 1 of a 15 round boxing match of life. And you don’t do it alone! Number one most important lesson - never alone. People in Recovery are the best. And we can be the best in return! Hope the best for both of you.

He stopped when he was around 12 but when he was 17 he reenacted his childhood excitement for my birthday. That was the first time I cried in 15 years. Son if you ever see this just know that was the best gift a father good ask for. Such a fan of the both of you! I'm also an ICU Nurse in San Antonio, Tx. who has seen detox from almost every substance; alcohol, by far is the worst & most DANGEROUS. So glad that you pulled through it w/ Renee as a kick ass support system & now back in the ring being such a badass! ✌🏻🤍

You know - I think the things Jon says can be put into context for a lot of people. You may not have an alcohol problem...but maybe you over-eat. Or are addicted to caffeine. Sugar. Whatever it is...it's easy for people to eventually get addicted to something if they aren't careful. Glad he realized this and got the help he needs. Hope all is well!

Im currently suffering from cannabis/tobacco addiction that has destroyed my life, if it was just weed id have no problem quitting but because i mix it into my bong with tobacco it makes it 100x more addicting, thats one of my life goals rn is to get off it because i dont want to end up on a breathing machine and my lungs are already fucked, props to Moxley because addiction is a horrible disease and extremely hard to beat.

I will never quit weed because of my au(tis)m and scoliosis it controls both and the pain relief plus been smoking it for 12yrs now since 2010 in Washington state I was heavy drinking of alcohol for 9months and went to rehab for a few months and end never had any more beer…I quit hard alcohol in 2012 when I couldn’t remember 2hrs of that day. Cigarettes I started the day I started weed and finally quit cigs after 10th try of quitting and was Memorial Day 2022 I haven’t touched tobacco

@@thetribalist6923 I went cold turkey in July 2020 and I used to smoke twice a day every day for months. It was hard the first few weeks but not as hard as what I expected it to be. Not smoked since. I would assume cigarettes or alcohol are much harder to quit

@@naveeda3929 that’s great man. Congrats. I’ve heard cigs can be the hardest. Had a friend that was addicted to hard drugs and was able to quit them, but couldn’t quit smoking cigs. Might have to do with it being the crutch that helped him quit the other stuff. Like a last vice that he just couldn’t shake because that was all he had left. I’ve haven’t met people who quit weed. They usually are either social smokers or just never quit.

I wanted to say that I have been through and battled addiction myself. Facing that reality is one of the hardest ones you will ever face but to be able to live your life again. To not wake up every morning wondering how you were going to make it though the day. I love having my life back again, to see the laughter I once lost the feeling to do, to have the love and support of my family. Having the respect of myself again and to make my kids so unbelievably proud that they tell me everyday. If you need help, it’s out there. Just believe and know it’s one day at a time. If you fall, then get your ass up and try again. I believe in you!

Watching this interview is like reading his book: I could hear his voice in my head as I read it. Every chapter read like a Mox promo. I lost a sister to alcohol last year who was like a mother to me, and I can't help but get a bit misty-eyed because of how much she would love hearing him talk about it. I still have the return promo saved in my watch later and I think of my sister and just cry. It is helping me mourn. Thank you, Renee and Jon for your honesty!

Damn. Wasn't sure what this interview was gonna be like, but its powerful. From battling addiction to becoming a father to talking about maintaining passion and focus for what you do in life it resonated so much. This felt like a 30 minute discussion that was apparently almost 2 hours. Very well done.

Damn when Jon talked about being grateful for having normal mornings, like it’s a cheat code to life after years of waking up and struggling to get rid of the hangover/withdrawal and I felt that deeply. After a few months, I’ve kicked a really bad habit (addiction…) and I keep saying the same thing as Jon- it’s WILD to wake up and not have withdrawals - it’s just normal but it makes me so grateful everyday. I’m so happy for you two and especially for Nora cause her dad is a superhero in so many ways and she deserves y’all at your best

I’ve been in the mind set you were in and it’s crazy how much your mind plays tricks on you to justify things. Good luck on your continued sobriety. Renee you are such an amazing wife for sticking beside your man and deal with everything you had to do well Jon was getting help.
