CM Punk II: Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette

CM Punk is back! Again. On our podcast. The biggest free agent signing in recent professional wrestling (at least for now) returns to Oral Sessions for an in-person sit-down just days ahead of his in-ring debut for All Elite Wrestling. In a wide-range conversation, Punk discusses the differences between AEW and WWE, how he’s grown as a person since quitting the business, and finally elaborates on how yours truly supposedly brought him out of retirement.

She was one of the best WWE interviewers/journalists that they had, so I applauded her when she left those assholes. Treating employees that work hard like shit, not paying them enough, plus she wanted to have a kid, it was just time for her, and if WWE wanted to keep her they should have treated her accordingly. I'm just glad Punk and Bryan are wrestling in a happy environment again. My interest level in the WWE product after April goes down after the part-timers leave and they stop caring about the week to week stories. Its great to have AEW revitalize interest in the summer so I'm looking forward to the fall season for once. Everybody knows business will pick back up in the WWE in January, but till then AEW should keep gaining momentum.

@Craig Waldera Lol nice trolling. But to answer your question for anyone else who happens to read it, first thing he said in a ring in over half a decade was put Britt Baker over, he's working with one of the hottest young talents AEW has in Darby Allin, he did a physical segment with 2.0 and Danny Garcia, he's been non-stop talking about how good talents like Jungle Boy are while standing in the ring with them. None of those are huge on their own, but put all those together over the past few weeks and it's pretty clear what he's done. Not to mention how happy he's clearly made a lot of people. And of course he hasn't had a match yet, you really think they'll give CM Punk's first match in 7 years away on free tv when they could put it on one of their marquee ppv's and in Chicago no less. That would just be bad business if they did that.

I’m not ashamed to admit, I got a bit emotional over Punk’s return. He was my childhood hero, and as someone who was severely bullied in school, watching Punk’s documentary years ago I related to his youth so much. To say the man has inspired and influenced me would be an understatement. I’m ecstatic for Punk, you can tell returning to wrestling means a lot to him. All Out will be the first time I’ve watched any wrestling in over 5 years, and I can’t wait. Best of luck, Punk 🙌

Don’t have heroes. They will always let you down. But it’s fine to admire certain traits in people and their hard work and ethical stances and whatnot. I used to have John Lennon as a role model. Then I found out he was a wife beater who left nothing to his first son Julian in his will. Stuff like that will give you pause. Now I just say that he is my favorite Beatle for the music. And I like certain stances he took that he didn’t have to and could have cost him financially and even worse. I’m cool with you having a childhood hero. That’s fine. Just don’t idealize these people. They are human. Humans will always let you down. Just like we have probably let someone down before too. Godspeed.

That's the part everyone seems to forget is Bischoff was the guy keeping the company alive the whole time Turner was willing to let it die.

Oh me too! I would love to hear from more of the guys that learned little things like that from Eddie talk about what all they learned. Man imagine what Eddie would be doing right now if he was still here with us!!! I wonder if he would still be wrestling because that was just who he was was a wrestling machine and with as good as shape he kept himself in, minus some of the GH, he may still be in the ring on a part time limited basis. No house shows but maybe big ppvs thru the year with some tvs thrown in to build whatever he's doing. I don't believe he would have ever left WWE though. He was a "Made" guy already with wwe before he passed and was viewed as a top guy and highly respected and treated well. BUT in saying that, I thought the same thing about big show and mark Henry when they jumped. And especially Bryan Danielson So who knows. Bryan even said himself he loved working there and loved who he worked with and he was given alot of things apparantley that most nobody else gets like he said he was helping on creative write the shows some and they let him free lance a little more with his promos and what he was doing. And the biggest thing, they were gonna allow him to go wrestle in Japan and diff places overseas that he really wanted which anyone that knows how WWE operates knows that just does not happen ever! Lol Bryan even said him and Vince are very close and he said that Vince sometimes was too over protective of Bryan which shows you how Vince felt about him. So him jumping was and will prob always be the biggest jump. Unless someone like a lifer and huge name like a randy orton or someone. I'm not gonna say Cena, taker, Shawn Michaels or a rock because thats just not gonna happen.

Reason I say that might be it is because in their promo after cameras stopped rolling last week on dynamite when punk and christian both were in the ring cutting promos to send the fans home happy, Christian made a small funny jab at himself about it and when he did punk died laughing lol. Unfortunately, I have to say that Paige should stay the hell away from the wrestling ring. She's young, she has a lot of life left to live, and a neck specifically is just *not* something you f**k with. A couple knee injuries? Fine. A bad elbow? OK. But the neck? It's not worth it. I'd hate to see that girl end up dealing unbelievable immense pain every time she stands up or walks for the next 60 years just to entertain people like me. She's made her mark. There's lots for her to do in the business without the risk of paralysis.
