The worst Heavyweight in the top 10-15 today would absolutely destroy Tim. There were no high-level athletes in the UFC early on. The guys today are so far ahead of the guys back then skill-wise. There is always a puncher's chance, but saying Tyson has a puncher's chance against Jones is like saying McGregor has a puncher's chance against Mayweather.

Honestly this just makes what Claressa Shields been doing even more commendable. Only boxer I can think of who genuinely has tried out mma not just once but multiple times.

I like the respect Jon is getting recently he really is vicious and a scary dude, almost psychopathic in that cage you could say, especially with the Machida choke and walk off, baddest man on the planet is a bit of a weird title because any of these high level fighters could beat each other at any given time and also it's disrespectful to Francis even though he's not as good a grappler but he's good enough and his striking is dangerous man

The sad thing is that anyone thinking Tyson would win, would never see this video. This needs to be tagged by Teddy Atlas or someone respected in the boxing community to show fans of that sport and casuals the reality of the situation.

I think we should give boxers more credit when it comes to street fights against strictly grapplers like Gordon Ryan. Jiu-jitsu artists aren't conditioned to take strikes like boxers are so who knows how it would go down in a no holds barred fight. MMA fighters are completely different story tho

Grapplers still have a big advantage over pure strikers though. Simply cus, Gordon just needs to get a hold of Tyson, Tyson needs to knock him out with his first few hits. If he can't do that, Gordon will get a hold of him and submit him

You're massively undervaluing how good the top BJJ guys are at takedowns and creating favourable positions from the clinch. If Fury doesn't knock him out with 1 strike, he's being taken down, and won't get up again.

@Joske Vermeulen yeah that can happen but it's not like grapplers aren't used to a high stress fast paced environment, they are ultimately still fighters, and considering they extensively train their necks just like boxers, they're fairly durable, and it's unlikely for a striker of the same weight class to get a KO in a few hits, but going into striking range means going into takedown range, and unlike the striker, the grappler has a very high chance of scoring a takedown since the striker has no defense for it, its a totally different ball game

@Animal Blundetto how many boxing matches end in the first 10 seconds let alone first punch. Very few. The grappler has plenty of time to grapple, which the striker can't do anything about, the grappler likely has enough durability to survive a short blitz. Why don't we look at real world examples instead of just theory. Ben Askren went 19-0 in ONE with 0 striking ability, ONLY wrestling. Successfull mma strikers on the other hand NEED takedown defence, if you look at the good ones like Izzy, his defence is excellent. Pure strikers have never had much success in mma, where as pure grapplers have. Just look at the first UFC event, Gracie won that, he fought plenty of strikers, guys way past his weight class too and he did it as a pure grappler

Gane has years of grappling training, takedown defence, Muay Thai (which is far more threatening to someone trying to grapple you than boxing), and he still got manhandled like that. Imagine if Jones did the exact same thing against Fury how much easier it would be.

In Human History? Bro you're out of your mind. Send Jones back to the Roman Colosseum and he dies real quick. The majority of Human History didn't have people getting "beat up". The vast majority of Human History had people getting bludgeoned, crushed, and/or eviscerated at the first hint of conflict. No boxing defense can stop a spear. No shin is stronger than a sword. MMA is useless in an actual fight i.e blades. Tyson Fury would destroy Jon Jones in boxing. Jon Jones would destroy Tyson Fury in MMA. Where I grew there were 14 year old kids who would end both of them, Jon Jones wouldn't even see the knife coming.

Only real shot a Boxer has is if he can clip you early, or if the MMA fighter decides to box which is really not that uncommon. How many MMA fights have been mostly a boxing match. I think sometimes there is a tendency to assume the MMA fighter will just avoid boxing so I think it matters what the MMA fighter chooses to do. The counter to a leg kick is a punch so I think will it is very likely to be easy I can see how the MMA fighter can mistake his way into a loss.

There's a reason I only knew last decades boxing fighters, but knowing most of MMA fighters these days I want to see human body tested to the limit in freeform combat (MMA) Boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai is cool, but I want to see what fighting games offered us even back then in the 90s, it was the truth of how the combat sport evolved Punches, kicks, knees, elbows, clinches, takedowns, submissions... Somehow after knowing MMA it's kinda "ruined" other combat sports for me, the others just feel so lacking with all the limitations

theres also boxing techniques that mma fighters utilize more such as parring punches. mma fighters cant shell up behind massive gloves like boxers can. its a whole other ball game in mma.
