It is not just the strength, Bokke have preseverance and stamina - the biggest guys can go full speed for 80 mins. ABs are clinical. They are not feared by the tier 1 nations.

Such a unique fighter. He is always going for something, always throwing something out there. Never any empty space, taking advantage of " free offense" as Luke Thomas called it. And nothing is for free with Dricus. Whenever Robert threw a kick, leg kick etc, Dricus would tag him right back, even if he was out position or late with the strike...his timing is unique af. Its why he is so awkward, hes always just throwin shit out there, keepin u guessin...

He's sloppy and hesitates. He rocked Whitaker the first time backed away and shelled up and then threw a leg kick for no reason instead of swarming right away or going for the take down. You can't hesitate like that against Israel, who only needs a single 1-2 to put you out.

i have been thinking of DDP for the past week lol. One thing i noticed is that after the surgery, he absolutely looks more explosive, fast and powerful and i think rob totally did not expect that which made him get overwhelmed. Rob's gameplan had no answer to how DDP was fighting and also couldn't handle the constant pressure. Rob's team probably thought DDP would be slow based on his past fights. I think he is a completely different fighter now since he has more cardio and he can breathe properly. I see it Dricus Du Plessis finishing israel adesanya.

Only difference is DDP will go for the finish and not just lay and pray like Jan. The guy is an out and out finisher, Tavares was his only decision win in 20 MMA wins and not for a lack of trying, he just had a unbreakable chin despite heavy shots from DDP.

Great commentary. As a former wrestler, I always wondered why 185 wrestlers couldn’t just tie Israel up easier. I see now they really aren’t trained in ground control, just takedowns

The thing not talked about enough in this generation of fighting is the natural instinct to fight. Dricus has this instinct, and that's why he wins. Every position, standing, clinching, on the ground, he see's it as a challenge of strength and guts. Izzy better wear the dog collar again, because he has a dog fight coming.

Not only for the reasons you mentioned, which I agree with, but also bc he doesn't seem intimidated by Izzy, and moreover, Izzy does seem intimidated by Dricus. He looked absolutely shook when cameras first panned to him after DDP finished Whittaker, and Israel seems super emotional about this fight, which almost never goes hand in hand with good performances.

I bet Izzy has been "emotional" for all fights in his entire life. He's a man true to himself, that's his biggest strength.

The critiques Dricus gets are similar to the critiques Tony Ferguson used to get. People said Edson Barboza was a far more technical striker so Tony will be screwed on the feet, but Tony's awkward unpredictable style showed to be very effective despite not being fundamentally correct.

I have favoured DDP before in the Brad Tavares fight, the Daren Till fight as well as the Brunson fight. However the Whittaker fight still kinda shocked me. He didn’t take too much damage from the fight as I thought he would. DDP possesses more ways to finish Izzy compared to Periera as an example.

I very much disagree izzy has been grappling with Craig jones for the past couple months hes takedown defense has always been good and if he does get on the ground his guard is good enough to keep dricus wondering i can see him catching him in a triangle or armbar or reversing the position

Been waiting for this 💪🏽it's going to be a very good fight.

He might look clumsy but he has physicality, good wrestler, smart and puts everything behind everything he does.

I didn't think much of Dricus before the Whitaker fight and expected him to get dominated by Robert. Seeing him handle Whitaker so well makes me see how good he really is. He's going to be a real challenge for Izzy.

Dricus fought more people, including khamzats homie darren till which he ragdolled, and went straight into skilled veteran whittaker and knocked him out. like damn DDP is doing work for SURE

I'm so excited for this fight! I might actually buy the ppv instead of finding a stream.

What I like about DDP is that he is game and gonna go for it in the fight, not just play touch butt like vettori and cannonier

Has Dricus fought anyone thats a good leg kicker? I know he's great wrestler and all that and he'll get Adesanya down at some point, but his guard is so high that it leaves everything below his chest as an easy kick target. Low leg kicks could be a real problem for Dricus, his movement is clunky at the best of times.

Besides Vettori, all of Adesanya's opponents seemed to pose a danger to him before the fight. Not a situation that's unexpected in the MW division. This should be a great fight.

I thought Marvins wrestling would be enough, but it proved absolutely useless and I thought Jared would be too powerful and eventually catch him, same with Costa, same with Yoel, same with Jan same with Alex both times and I was only right once. I predicted them all to win by KO other than Jan who I thought would win via doctor stoppage and Margin by decision. I have never been more wrong about a fighter.

To be fair being technical with Izzy isn't enough to beat him, so DDP being awkward may actually help him, now I'd favour Izzy but starting to get REAL hard to doubt DDP these days, I keep doing it and he keeps winning, beating Rob is impressive af especially being able to headlock takeover woman's MMA style someone like rob Also jack slack pointed out ddp does some really good grappling moves when on the ground, forget the exact names of those technique's but he was impresed

You're spot on with the awkwardness being a great counter to technical orthodox. Sometimes a rookie can beat a veteran just because their technique is unpredictable and wild, I've seen it happen in real life. If you can't out-technical a guy you have to out-awkward him. In a way it seems like the perfect storm to beat Izzy

I absolutely love your analyses, but I think the reason Whittaker and Vettori failed to capitalize on Izzy's post or when they lost their hooks, is because he's far longer than them and not necessarily due to lack of skill. The images you show clearly depict a very far Whittaker from Izzy's posting hand, and both cases of hooks are with *ankles*, which is a much weaker lock than tucking under the knee. I do agree Dricus could win on the ground though, I'm just not sure it's that obvious that he'll keep him there, as it seems from your analysis

His mindset is another attribute that I think will lend itself to being a challenge to Izzy. Most of Izzy opponents respected his standup so much that they got too hesitant and paralyzed to give themselves a real shot to win. I feel like Dricus will have a good game plan, still be smart about how to handle Izzy's striking, but not be afraid to go out there and take risks and chances he needs to.

Great analysis, before Rob fight I actually thought Izzie would be much easier fight than Robert as Izzie has been manhandled by wrestling and Dricus won’t try and stand with Izzie. Also, Dricus will have massive confidence as he has wrestled Izzie so knows how he will feel. I will have money on this fight for sure with the crazy odds

dricus is very similar to jan blachowicz. weird unorthodox striker with knockout power and a great wrestler and even better grappler.

What sets Dricus aside from most of Izzy's other opponents is his confidence. You could feel the diffence in confidence when Dricus and Whittaker talked about each other. Whittaker always said "I'm going to try to win". Dricus said "I'm going to win." Very different mindsets
