The most heartbreaking this about the current generations of kids is that they refuse to even try Nintendo games. I've practically begged my brother, 3 years my junior, to simply try the game once and he refuses every time only to go into his own corner of the room and play cod/battlefield for 4 hours straight. And to top it off I have no friends that live within walking distance due to living in a small remote country town. Been playing Smash 4 since release on both consoles and yet to have a P2 join a single game.

Swift_Heracross Same game every other year for another $110. Theres no innovation because the developers of these FPS games are too afraid to take the tiniest step outside the box. That why I enjoy Titanfall to this day. It dared to do something new and it did it really well. COD as a series needs to end and the devs need to make a new IP with something new. The only issue I have with most FPS games is that they rarely change, and they come out with a new game in the series almost every year. It makes it tough to justify the $110 price tag.

Just play the game online. It runs sooooo much better than Brawl and I'm pretty sure you can find many friend codes on the internet. If you have the Wii U version I'd suggest playing online on that one as the Wii U has better online connectivity than the 3DS.

I know that feel. Hell, it's gotten to the point in my school where if you mention Nintendo near students, they keep a far distance away from you, considering you're a "nerd with no life" and should play "real games" like CoD. Still, check out online on Smash 4. You'll have fun like I do!

Ah, Super Smash Bros. One of my favorite video game series ever, up there with Sonic and Pokemon. When I was a kid, I didn't actually own a copy of Smash Bros 64. Whenever I played it, it was usually through my cousin bringing over his copy of the game, or playing it over at his house. To this day, it's the only Smash Bros game I don't own a physical copy of, but I still want to get one eventually, despite the other games having more content. As for Melee, when my family got a Gamecube for Christmas, Melee was one of the games that came with it, and me and my little sister, and my cousins whenever they visited, played the ever living shit out of this game, even though, looking back, we completely sucked at it. Until Smash Wii U came out, this was my personal favorite game in the series, for its fighting mechanics. Although, while I still love the game, I do think it's a bit overrated, by which I mean I don't like how people tend to ignore Smash Bros Brawl's existence because it isn't exactly like Melee. Speaking of Brawl... Is it sad for me to say, that if I hadn't visited my cousin's house and saw that Sonic was in Brawl, I probably wouldn't have bought the game? (This was around the time I became a hard core Sonic fan.) But in all seriousness, while I prefer Melee's fighting physics, I still love Brawl. I love more of the stages, compared to Melee, I love the bigger selection of fighters, I love all the extra modes and content, and I love the music. Melee's music is really great, but Brawl's music is awesome and then some. Next we have the Smash Wii U appetizer.. I mean, Smash Bros 3DS. Since this game, in terms of mechanics, is practically the same as the Wii U version, and I want to save my fanboying for that game, I don't have too much to say about the 3DS version, except that it's great that I can play Smash Bros on the go now, and that for a 3DS game, it's beautiful. And last, but *certainly* not least, Smash Bros for Wii U. *I* *FUCKING* *LOVE* *THIS* *GAME!!!* **ahem** All fanboying aside, Smash Bros for Wii U is so amazing, I literally have no reason to ever play Melee, or any other Smash Bros game ever again, unless I'm feeling really nostalgic. The fighting mechanics are a perfect mix between Brawl and Melee, I love practically every character in the game, the graphics are fucking beautiful, I love all the new stages, not to mention being able to choose a Final Destination form of that stage, 8-player Smashes are fun as hell, the online is really smooth, and I *freaking* *LOVE* the soundtrack. If you have a Wii U, and aren't getting this game, *what the hell is wrong with you???* Seriously, this game is fucking amazing, and I can already tell, I'm gonna have loads of memories and fun times with this game. I cannot wait for the announcement of the next Smash Bros game to see if they can find a way to top this. Masahiro Sakurai, thank you. Thank you so much for creating one of the most fun game series I've ever played in my life.

Smash 4 3DS and Wii U are on my favorite games list. Of course I would put the Wii U version higher, but that's not to neglect the 3DS game. That'd be like comparing a mountain of ice cream with sprinkles, chocolate, and a big cherry on top, compared to an ice cream sundae. Both a very delicious, but you'd rather have the bigger and better one. Still, Smash 4 3DS is gonna be a game I any bringing everywhere, since I can't get enough of Smash 4 in general. :)

Hub Hikari Okay then. Is it all right if we do it with the characters as is? I haven't transfered all of my custom move sets from the 3DS version over to the Wii U yet. Besides, I've grown really used to how the characters control normally when I played a few online matches last weekend. I think the only exception to that is Palutena. We can have custom characters on, but only so I can give Palutena the moves I like the most, because her usual standard specials are pretty underwhelming in my opinion, except for her Counter. I love characters with Counters.

I think it's a shame that there isn't a story mode in the new game. It would hold the game together. I know, most people didn't like the sse and it had problems. The enemies were mostly annoying and boring (at least they tried making up new ones), the levels weren't the most exciting and there were pointless levels (like the one, wher you run to the right with Kirby on the Halberd and that's it). But it put most of the characters (that means only 3 were left out) into an interesting and well-made story. The characters didn't talk at all, but you still knew what was going on and I don't think they would've needed to talk. The mode even introduced a new villain, so it wasn't just Master Hand again, and it brought Boss Battles and a mode just for that. I'm happy, that the familiar bosses were from the Mario, Metroid and Mother series, because those are between my favourite franchises. Anyway, I don't say the new game is bad or anything, so don't accuse me of that. It looks awesome and has some interesting new features, but I miss a coherent story after the sse. I still don't understand their reasoning for not including one. Someone uploaded the cutscenes for that mode on youtube? Well, where can I see them? Or did anyone actually see them? What is this all about? It seems like an excuse to not make a better story mode, than the SSE (which wouldn't be that hard honestly).

Because since the internet posted SSE cut scenes. Sakurai felt it was a bad idea to have a story mode when everyone can just watch the cut scene off line. Hey wanted us to be surprise by the story not just look online for the Cut Scene and be unsurprised.

CodecronoX So he meant the cutscenes from brawl. All right, that makes sense. I wasn't sure, if he meant those or new ones for the new game. But I still don't think it is justified, with that thinking he could say it isn't worth making a game at all, ebcause of lets plays. Of course I don't agree with that and it is pretty stupid, but that is just an extreme version of the whole cutscene thing. Also Brawls intro mostly consisted of SSE cutscenes :D

CodecronoX no, of course I would want it to be delayed. And I know that whole internet thing. I got a Wii in 2008 and before that I didn1t think I would ever be able to get one, so I watched the crap out of SSE lets palys, because I loved the idea so much of Nintendo characters from different franchises being in one story mode. So when I finally got a Wii (of course with Brawl together), it was pretty exciting, but it wasn't as interesting anymore, because I knew a lot already. It took me pretty long, until I forgot enough of it, that I finally palyed the story mode for myself. But I like it so much, that I actually played through it on every difficulty. I had some playthroughs by myself, than I palyed with my brother, a friend and so on.

well, if it makes you feel any better sse IS canon to the nintenverse as pit refers to mr game and watch as a shadow bug from brawl in a conversation (and yes, i do think all nintendo games take place in the same universe and i honestly don't buy the kid playing with his toys thing)

Smash Brothers, along with Mario, Pacman and Sonic, is basically my Childhood. I played the hell out of the original, the most out of melee, even more out of brawl, and now my time is sunk with U and 3DS. I love this series so much, and it makes me feel good for being a Nintendo Fan.

Brawl's version of Bramble Blast is hands down the best song on the whole soundtrack.

Why does everyone hate Brawl? Seriously! The game isn't even bad! Just because it is slower, you can't wavedash and L-cancel and some other things doesn't mean it is horrible! I am tired of people beating Brawl down. That or it is just the fact that SSBB is my favourite SSB game.

I even remember a mini tournament they had in California at the hotel I was at, so I spammed buttons as Meta Knight and lost on the first game. Super Smash Bros... easily one of my favorite gaming franchises of all time. I love each game in the series (even 64), and Smash 4 3DS and Wii U are some of my new favorite games of all time. I mean, wow. I was introduced through Brawl, and Smash 4 was the biggest hype train I've ever been on. I love this series, and it deserves GOTY. :)

I just want Subspace Emissary again, seeing the characters interact with each other was the main reason I got the game in the first place. Story was actually pretty good as well.

I admit I never had the kind of nostalgic love for Smash like others do - I always had difficulty following the series due to circumstances. Really, Smash 4 is the first time I've immersed myself into the series at the same time as everyone else. The fact that it's such a damn good installment makes it all the sweeter. (Mega Man helps, too.) Still, even from the beginning I've been a fan of Smash in however form I was able to consume it, and arranging local multiplayer for Smash 4 has invoked some of that fun that the rest of you had when you were younger with 64 or Melee. I'm also eagerly awaiting tournament mode, because I think it's time HFC and BSC do battle again in an arena I'm more comfortable with :V

Shadow is the 2nd most likely character to make it in smash from the sonic series other than sonic himself, he's even an assist trophy. I want Sonic, Shadow, and knuckles to represent the sonic series in smash 4 because with shadows chaos powers, and knuckles's knuckles & more centered around combat, Sakurai has much more to work with than Sonic and if he can manage to give sonic a decent moveset, he can give shadow and knuckles a moveset easily. The reason why Shadow or Knuckles aren't in smash is a 3rd party rule, and Sakurai already doesn't like putting that much 3rd party characters in the game.

is it only me that every time I hear the Announcer Say "SUUUPPER SMAASDH BROS." I get goosebumps?

This made me sad knowing that I probably won't be able to ever attend midnight releases...damn virus...I'm 21 and I never really had the means to indulge in my interests in any way close to that...but damn it sounds amazing

Super Smash Bros. Brawl marked one of the games that I bought with my own money and it felt great to do. 22:48 "I got more smashing to do" 😅 Was that intentional 😅

The music library in Smash 4 is amazing! So many kickass tunes I was unaware existed.. I LOVE IT! :D

I love how positive and upbeat you are about a series you clearly love. Even when you throw in a criticism, it's done from a place of knowing how much better it could possibly be. Smash holds a special place in my heart too. Thanks for the video

I think most Nintendo gamers and some other gamers would agree this series is one of the best gaming franchises ever.

Now we have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, combining all of the best aspects of the previous games, and more, truly making the ultimate experience.

One more day until Smash Ultimate, it's amazing to see how this game has grown, it turns 20 next year!

And thus we wait for the day Johnny does Johnny vs. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Personal thoughts about every installment: Smash 64: Introduced me to the francise. I didn't play it that much but I had fun every time I did. Melee: Best selection of Singleplayer modes (I really like the adventure mode and I think it has the best event mode). Brawl: The game I had most fun with when playing local matches with my family and friends. Smash 4: Best game mechanics and FINALLY a good online mode (although I wish you could play for glory matches on normal stages...I think they should update the game to make a room just for that).

I have many video games I've grown up playing alone. Smash Brawl is one of them. Everybody I know plays COD, BattleField, Destiny, Halo and GTA now. First person/Third Person shooters are so overdone nowadays, and most are exactly the same (Except TF2) and since I got Brawl in 2009, I have only known two people to share my interest. 6 years later, I'm playing WiiU and 3DS Smash, and most the time I'm alone in single player :'( Still waiting to have the all night Smash marathon I dreamed of......

+Joe Robinson If you like smash a lot, there should be a competitive scene in your city. I don't have very many friends that live nearby, but because of the competitive community, I've been able to meet people who come over on a weekly basis to play for a few hours. You never know what can happen when you look around.

This is without a doubt one of my most favorite youtube videos ever. Rock on Johnny you make is laugh and made me want to cry with all the pure love you have for this series and now I can't stop playing it even more so then before. All time most memorable Moment of Melee was selecting Temple over and over until Fire Emblem was the song that was playing. To this day I always think of Link and Marth as smash buddies.

I may be a big Sonic fan but Super Smash Bros. is my favorite video game series ever. I own and love every game in the series...except for SSB4 Wii U (Dammit, can't Friday come any faster for us, poor europeans?) and I just can't wait to get my hands on it along with a GameCube controller adapter because, as much as I love the 3DS version, playing SSB without a GameCube controller feels alien to me. Also, I admit I was one of the victims of the Smash Dojo for Brawl. Back then, I just couldn't wait for school to be over so I could go home, boot up my computer and see what the new update was, hoping it would be a new character.

This is so far my favorite review you've ever done. And I keep re-watching it.

I have to say, I love how professional you sound. You manage to explain the feelings you have for a game in such a great way.

I did the DK down B so much recently that the rumble motors stopped working in my controller.

My smash memories consist of seeing the commercials for the game (This was when I was going through the Pokemon phase) and finally playing it at a friend's house after a postponed visit to a local amusement park during the summer. We made up for it by playing Smash all day and as much as I sucked at it, it was a blast. I ended up getting my own copy for Xmas that year and have played/owned every installment since. With the Switch, it's great being able to play on the go and was even able to get one of my friends to do some local multiplayer on 1 screen. Fun times.

I find it funny how creating a game like Smash Bros, where you beat up your friends and family to dust, actually brings people closer together.......and yet creating a board game like Mario Party puts you on the shit-list of everyone you play with.

Melee: High speed, good for competitive (IK duh) It has some problems seeing as you can basically break the game with L canceling and wave dashing. Brawl: Good for single player, while it is slower than melee, it is good if you want a good ol' casual battle 4: AMAZING!!!!

+ Brian McGuire Wavedashing is in sort of a gray area... He knew about it and didn't remove it so imo it's an exploit. But you're horribly misinformed if you think l canceling a glitch. Not only was it PURPOSELY ADDED but it was also explained by Nintendo how to do it. Saying they break the game just means you don't get it, which is fine. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Game breaking would be like ice climbers freeze glitch or perhaps the infamous black hole glitch

That Smash Melee opening will always be iconic

One of the milestones in both versions of Smash 4 always makes me laugh. When you collect all the custom moves, part of the milestone says "Show me your moves!" What makes it so amusing is that's what Captain Falcon says in one of his taunts.

Johnny, Mii fighters were ACTUALLY going to be debut in Brawl, but because Nintendo was "Too afraid" that they'll insult other players, they didn't. That's why you can't play as them in online.

I'm in the same situation you were in.. no Wii U, so no Smash 4 :(

19:27 Remember a feature of the DS that made it so you only need one copy of the game for local multiplayer? Everyone still needed an individual DS, but only one person needed to have the game. What great times... Nintendo became more greedy sadly.

I used to play Melee and Brawl when I first moved to the United States, I was really young and my brothers got me into it. If there is something all 4 of my brothers and I have in common its our love of math, police work and SMASH BROTHERS!

Absolutely Incredible. Super Smash for Wii U is definitely on my wishlist for Christmas this year. Also, the 60 FPS was good John.

Brawl was my first Smash game. But more importantly than that, it also introduced me to so many franchises of games to play, including Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, the list goes on. I doubt it was the first time I heard of some of them, but it was the first time I ever learned anything about them beyond what other people told me about them, and that was definitely a huge factor to make me try them out.

Just want to get this off my chest. Great vid, by the way: I can't stand people who take these games so fucking seriously. Since Wii U and (especially) Melee get so much recognition in tournaments, everyone wants to be the best at Smash...even if it means sucking all of the fun out of it for everyone else. Here's an example: My school has been lucky enough to have a Wii U with Smash and GameCube controllers that everyone had access to for FREE. You'd have to hand in your Student ID first, but if you had a 3DS Version of the game, which I do, you don't have to worry about it. Seems pretty cool, right? Well, it is for like 30 minutes until you realize nearly every single Goddamn person playing demands OMEGA Stages with no items, and if you even bring it up as a suggestion to shake things up a bit, they get angry and bitch if things don't go their way. I love that Sakurai and his team created flat versions for every single stage in the game, but this is a big downside to anyone who just wants to play for fun. Ever played 3 stock 8-Player Smash, flat stage, no items more than 5 times in a row? It gets boring really fast, and you're especially screwed if you're the first one out. The original Smash Bros never had this kind of luxury. Turning off items was something you had to unlock, and even then the game was still fun as shit. "But this is the most fair way to play the game!" 1. Don't fucking talk to me about playing fair if you refuse to let people pick a stage they want. 2. You are not in a tournament, nothing's at stake, and your idea of fair isn't fun for anyone who doesn't eat, sleep, and shit competitive Smash like you do... And yes, I'll admit I enjoy grudge matches between my friends where we do 1 on 1 with no items on a flat stage or Battlefield. But again, it's all for FUN.

+Rush Hour I definitely agree. omega stage all day gets boring when there are bigger and more interesting stages to play. my school wasn't as lucky as yours but I did have people to play smash 3ds during lunch hour or study hall. however, only 1 other person shared my opinion of "there's more than one stage, use them". it was almost satisfying when the other players groaned when Cornaria or Balloon fight was the stage they spawned in. although, at Evercon, (an annual local gaming convention in Wausau Wisconsin. if you want to check it out, it normally happens the second weekend of January) we chose normal stages in 8-player smash about 30% of the time.

+Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart Hey I am a Nintendo fan and I will acknowledge there are some stellar Call of Duty games. WAW is still my favorite shooter of all time. Some, not all fans are pissed because they believe they are stealing money from Nintendo by releasing a game yearly. However, I enjoy Call of Duty but the newest one Black ops 3 was absolute shit to me. Almost as bad as Ghosts. So it is just Microsoft being their corporate, money hungry selves every time they release another game. Hell they released two in the same year. Talk about greedy. Nintendo takes time to make their games and when they release it, it is a hit or a miss. Call of Duty is the same thing. So don't assume we all hate or despise Call of Duty.

I own Smash 4 3DS, and I agree. It's much more fun with friends. I would know because every Wednesday, I attend a video game club at my school just to play Smash 4. And I'm sick of people saying that Pokémon is legal cockfighting. Cockfighting has no strategy. Pokémon is more like boxing. The competitors have coaches (trainers) and they strategize what to do against their opponents. The Pokémon fight until they faint, not die (Y'know, unless if you're doing a Nuzlocke). One last thing: Have you heard of a guy named T-BOY? He bought a copy of Smash 4 Wii U and ALL the character models in his game were messed up! He posted some pics in his MiiVerse.
