Johnny Carson & the Pygmy Chimp - The Tonight Show - August 4, 1977

Ойын-сауық

On a visit from Joan Embery of the San Diego Zoo, Carson hits it off with "Kayle" the pygmy chimp. While Joan has interesting things to say, Kayle and Johnny steal the show.

As a middle-millennial who has the barest flicker of memory of my folks watching Johnny Carson when I was very little, holy shit are you right! A sad day it has become in the state of late night entertainment when we long to return to the years of stupid pet tricks and Carnac the Magnificent. But then again, I don't even have cable anymore. I only say this because there's a reason Stephen Colbert isn't our generation's Carson, he's our generation's Tom Lehrer, and he works better as a satirist.

@@butters395 I'm not saying Mr. Carson was perfect by any means; however, I appreciate anyone who loves animals and he was pretty funny as was Ms Rivers and she had her flaws too just as you and I do. I don't condemn someone just because they have a side I don't like.

I miss Johnny. Always gentle with animals, and respectful to his guests. Loved him and no better host for a show. This is not a 'Pygmy Chimpanzee'. They are not part of the Chimpanzee species. This is like calling a Chimpanzee - a Pygmy Gorilla! This is the Bonobo primate, more slender and less heavy that the Chimpanzee. One notable difference is that the Bonobo Apes are very gentle and sexually oriented, whereas Chimpanzees are very aggressive. Unfortunately, humans descended from Chimpanzees, carrying the aggressive genes. If only we had descended from the Bonobos, there would be no wars, no climate change, no aggression in our species. Our motto would be - Make Love Not War.
