    4 жыл бұрын

    @@indusarasenanayake3889 Its long im sorry hope youll read that. So (and keep in mind thats all my point of view), the point of film scoring is not that much to make beautiful music than music that tell the story as much as images, and the perfect example for that are leitmotivs (a musical motif related to something of the story like the empire march that represent the empire). Zimmer dont use leitmotivs or he dont use them well. Another thing is that in some of Zimmer musics, for 5 minutes, he plays the same 4 chords with the same melody with the orchestration as only changes. How can you tell a story with 4 chords! You cant, or way worse than with a more "thought" harmony. Williams does all of that extremely well, better than Zimmer anyway. I would also say that in many of his film (not all) he try to use the classical orchestra but he dont use it as well as he could. And thats not a default, just that he doesnt know how to correctly orchetrate and hes way better with a more synth based sound. But he use the orchestra and he end with overuse of brass section and percution for no reason and the woodwinds that are truly under used which is bad.. So yes, Time is beautiful, Interstellar is beautiful but it dont make him a good film composer when Williams truly is. Edit: Even though I think Zimmer is really good at creating atmospheres

The binary sunset theme is evocative of entirely new emotions for those who know what it's about, it's much more complex and deep than anything Zimmer has made. But to those who don't "get" Star wars, that theme will mean very little

    I’m a huge fan of both! John Williams is like more prodigious, some of his music sound like real symphonies, for exemple The Duel Of Fates, or the music ending the StarWars III is a true Requiem 🖤 But Hans Zimmer is able to create that atmosphere like nobody else, and make me feel real emotions during many scenes of movies Sorry it’s to hard 😆

    Well the same works for Zimmer, i mean "He's A Pirate" and "Time" can be recognized by just two or three notes. And i think Zimmer is better at musically exploring the elements of the movie ( while Williams has never seen Star Wars )

  • @les4767

    @les4767

    Williams has never seen Star Wars?!?!?!? You are wrong. Williams always wrote his film scores FROM watching the films he wrote them for. Yes, he saw Star Wars...then he made it 100 times better with his soundtrack. Even George Lucas admitted that out of all the elements in the film, ONLY the soundtrack exceeded his hopes. You can take any 10 films Williams did and hum the melodies he created for them. Zimmer has at BEST maybe 3...and he collaborated with another composer on them. Zimmer is criminally overrated as a film composer.

    Yep, Hans Zimmer is good and all. He knows how to create some sort or "musical carpet" with long notes and epic moments, that is like a layer underneath the movie and accompanies it nicely. But Williams, man, he writes complete storylines into his arrangements, melodies that exactly resemble what is happening in the movie, as if everything was working together in a perfect choreography. Not many composers are on his level. But it's simple to decide who is better: ask anyone on the street at any time to hum the melody of Star Wars or Superman and then the music of Gladiator or Interstellar. We all know who wins ;)

  • @realBlueMoonMusic
    @realBlueMoonMusic6 жыл бұрын

    They're both equally awesome. William's made many beautiful iconic scores, like Superman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, etc. Zimmer, on the other hand did emotional themes, invoking so much power into his compositions, such as He's a Pirate, The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel etc.

    Sigh... As much as I respect the prequels, they did lay down the trend of low quality synthetic music. Neodammerung is hard to listen to, but even that can wreck Duel of Fats into dust. Duel of Fats is a meme, it's an inspirational track that rubs in like some pop trash, PPAP and such. It's like Inception. On the outside, Inception looks like something you can get off to, but when you dig a bit deeper, maybe put it in playlist circulation of 24bit music on the appropriate level of hardware - you find that something is missing. To quote Mr. Riddick: "In this case - a spine". Duel of Fats is spineless. Once the meme wears off, it's noise. Once you get over the motiff of Inception, it's noise. Compared to that, the classic trilogy has the instrumental tracks that stick through the years, because they don't rely on indiscernible vocals, like a second-grade TSFH mashup...

However I respect Zimmer for his experimentation and the sheer power he brings to his music. They are both film composer giants for a reason. Hans Zimmer’s scores do the perfect job of creating a huge amount of suspense and creating emotion but they’re not the most memorable. Pirates of the Caribbean is the only Zimmer score I can call iconic. John Williams’s scores do an amazing job of creating suspense and emotion but also a sense of wonder, excitement, scores that makes you feel like you’re in the world of the characrers. Both are 20/10 composers though

    WHY NO SCHINDLER'S LIST?

    It relies heavily on vibrato and subtlety which doesn't translate well to piano.

    You cannot decide on one better winner. I think William’s scores are probably more well known and iconic, while Zimmer’s work digs into your soul. Just be happy we all got to live in an age at the same time as these two musical gods.

    Yeah true. He has more iconic tunes although Hans' tunes evoke a more emotional theme if u get what I'm saying

    Piano Man No offense but so is Hans. Though I didn't get to see enough of the soundtracks I grew up with. He does a lot of kids soundtracks and yet they're still amazing. Can't wait for some other battle like " Henry Jackman vs Brian Tyler" or "Harry Gregson-Williams vs Rupert GregsonsomethingIcan'tremembercorrectly"
